Re: New team for LA

Its not annually Woody, more like monthly. And I don't think GG will be closing it.... it's normally him who starts these threads!

:D... very true. Forgot GG is a closet LA Raiders fan too.

Re: New team for LA

I don't think a new franchise will happen in LA, I'm just saying that I have no idea why the NFL wouldn't even consider it.

What they say publicly and privately are two different things. The NFL would have war plans for further expansion and LA would top that list.

They won't discuss those plans publicly primarily due to the current owners. They need their support on too many other issues to be giving them heartburn with the thought of more expansion teams. Especially now with so many struggling to match recent years growth.

The 'NFL team moving to LA' story has become the most boring story in football. There are a heap of practical reasons why it probably won't happen any time soon but it's a great story if you want leverage on getting a new stadium funded by tax-payers. Just look at the teams being discussed.

Many NFL teams are struggling with crowd and ratings numbers ATM, including all 3 current Californian teams in one form or another. Can't see where the support for another team coming in would come from. That leaves San Diego as the only real option as it's the only one that would get owners support.

Re: New team for LA

I would hope it's not Jacksonville so the AFC West is not broken up. The Chargers are a great fit since they were founded in LA, I already hate them and it's even easier to hate teams in Los Angeles.

Re: New team for LA

All Al has ever wanted is a new stadium. If they build one then we will head back down there. If the US had have gotten the world cup then a new stadium would have been built in the Bay Area and probably LA as well. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened.

Re: New team for LA

The NFL isn't going to allow a team (Other than Jax, and their stadium is too new) to move. Maybe the Raiders again, but like everyone has said, there has to be a new stadium for Al to move the team. Still, there's as much money in the Bay area as LA, so unless the city gives his a very sweet deal on a lease, he's not going anywhere. Minnesota isn't going anywhere. They built a new stadium for the Twins and UM. The Vikings will get a new stadium soon enough. You heard it here first, the NFL is going to expand to 36 teams by 2030. A new team in LA, a third team in Texas (probably San Antonio), London and possibly Mexico City or Toronto/Vancouver. The league would go to 6 x 6 divisions. Top 2 in each division make the playoffs. It's coming. The NFL isn't playing all these games in London and Toronto for fun you know...

Re: New team for LA

Not sure about the stadium as I have never been inside but my god the roads in Oakland are the worst I have ever driven on.

I know you have police issues, education and the f..cked up education system but shit do they spend anything on roads there??

As for LA..... Well my point still stands, I don't think LA give a hoot about Pro Football. Its just USC and Lakers really and thats it.

Re: New team for LA

IIRC, the current NFL TV audience in LA is a similar share to that of other large cities.

Unless the team is a new franchise & is done well I can't see how relocating a team from within the state is going to change that. You'd probably lose more than you gained.

Oakland are currently in more trouble than San Diego in terms of support but they know the support is there when the old man completely loses his faculties. People forget too that Minnesota is a reasonably large TV market.

I tend to agree with Older Dan's thinking on this.

Re: New team for LA

Oakland's crowd's have been reasonable this season, sell out v KC. Davis has been a champ in keeping them afloat all these years. If a disaster area (Saints) can be recovered through handouts and good management etc.. the Raiders have few problems financialy.

Like North Melbourne in the AFL, re-location has not worked.

Go you Oakland Raiders :thumbsu:

Say what?

The only handout I can remember was Miami overlooking Brees.

Planning on a disaster (other than Al Davis) in Oakland?

Personally I don't see the Raiders as a prospect for LA, location isn't their problem.

Yesterday's roof collapse at the Metrodome..........now there is a good reason to relocate!

Re: New team for LA

why Minny said no last year to the proposal and they made the NFC championship game, what would change in 12 months? they have no QB with Farve going and T-Jax out of contract, no head coach, and likely that the Williams wall will retire in a few weeks. why not use LA to rebuild the franchise.

Re: New Team for LA

Yeah, that would be really weird for a purple/yellow team to move from Minneapolis to Los Angeles. I'm sure Magic Johnson has never heard of anything like that.

i dont think many people remember the Lakers were the Minneapolis Lakers, so that prob went over most peoples head

I think a lot of people would know this and be aware of the irony if Vikings moved to LA. I just don't think the post really warranted much of a response.

"The Oilers moved to Tennessee, where there is no oil. The Jazz moved to Salt Lake City, where they don't allow music. The Oakland Raiders moved to L.A. and then back to Oakland. No one in Los Angeles seemed to notice."

Haha, that classic line from BASEketball.:thumbsu:

As for a team in LA, Minnesota are surely odds on now, it seems sides like San Diego and Jacksonville are going too well on the field to move, while Minnesota will be a terrible team next year, and for years to come after that.

I'd say the move may happen as soon as 2014.

Spot on. Also to a much lesser extent the UCLA Bruins for College Ball and the LA Clippers (Blake Griffin FTW).

Re: New team for LA

oh come on, there really aren't any Clippers fans. :p
