On the Suns website just watched the highlights from last year vs St Kilda.

Need to kick 15-20 goals, get our season back on track get the confidence back up with a win.
Need a physical presence in the midfield as a collective

Want Dave Swallow to have a good game, Lynch and Daysie to have crackers up forward and 6 goals between them. Also want Harley and Jack Martin with 3 goals between them and to be dangerous. Malceski to show some leadership in defence and command the troops, and the 3 x 2nd gamers to continue their development and get amongst it. Oh and Gaz to get back into form and confidence back. No injuries please

Not too much to ask?
Definitely not asking too muchy... that s**t should be the baseline every week.

I know Saints are usually low crowds, but it's our first game. Would aim for 15k, that's my tip. It's a prime Saturday night slot.

Mind you would love to be home to watch that Port v Syd game.
The Saturday night time slot has proven to not be a popular one on the Gold Coast. I was originally going to say 14k but I think the loss to the Demons might hold back a few people.

Had a little look through Eade's record as head coach when playing in Queensland and he has a win-loss record of 6-5. However, he is undefeated at Carrara as he only coached there once for the Bulldogs in 2011. Given he also coached the Bears reserves to a premiership while he was the reserves coach in 1991, I'd like find out what his Carrara record is as a coach but I don't know where to find that information.

is this what your looking for? http://afltables.com/afl/stats/coaches/Rodney_Eade.html

Edit: Sorry that doesn't include VFL games

Keen for today. I've seen countless posters, billboards, and street signs advertising the game around the GC so I'm hopefully for a bigger than usual crowd against St Kilda. Go suns!
The marketing group has certainly done its part. Just need the players to deliver.

Last Week

There were lots of comparisons from last weeks performance to the first game back in 2011, so I took the liberty of actually watching that game to remind myself how it was and i have to say... last week was okay in comparison. That doesn’t make it okay however and any misguided perceptions that the suns were just going to coast into the finals are gone. It was the simple stuff like ball use and deciding which options to take that hurt the suns the most but a week on the track and bit of composure should rectify this.

St Kilda were beaten by a dogged Western Sydney team that just kept them at arms length for most of the game. While the saints are favoured for the wooden spoon, they are hardly a pushover and will surprise any team that is off guard. Captain Nick Riewoldt suffered whiplash from a highly publicised hit from Tom Bugg but will be right to play today.

The Game

Tom Lynch comes straight back into the team replacing Gorringe and will certainly lead and anchor the forward line. Shaw has been suspended and Mckenzie has been dropped as a warning to everyone else, the crafty but solid duo Tape and Lemmens are their replacements. Rodney Eade has demanded that effort be on show tonight so expect the Suns to come charging out of the blocks with something to prove. St Kilda are missing midfield veteran Leigh Montagna in what will hinder the saints chances of getting their own inside ball. Ex-Sun Mav Weller did an outstanding job on Ryan Griffen last week and will closely follow Ablett tonight.

Ones To Watch Out For

Gold Coast: Dion Prestia - Has averaged just under 27 disposals in the last four games against the saints, including a 31 disposal and 6 tackle effort in the most recent clash. Saints will have their eye on Ablett but Prestia could be the one to do the damage.

St Kilda: Nick Riewoldt - Who else ? St Nick is the leading goal kicker by almost double that of the next best amongst the suns v saints clashes, averages 3 goals and 10 marks against the suns.

Head to Head History

Played 7 - Gold Coast 3 - St Kilda 4
At Metricon 4 - Gold Coast 2 - St Kilda 2

Final Verdict

The entire team is pretty much on notice and will want to put the bad performance behind them, the saints will be no pushover but are the perfect side to get the suns back into the swing of things.

I am pumped for tonight's game - opening bounce is 3:20am local time here in Edmonton! I have an alarm set. There is nowhere to go but up from last week's brutal performance so I expect our boys to play very well.

If anyone is going to the game and can grab an extra of the free Suns flags they are giving away - would you be willing to mail it to me here in Canada? Would be greatly appreciated.

GAME DAY!!!

I should be sleeping to get ready for the Suns game in just under 4 hours but...I just love watching this sport so much, I find myself tuning into the early games. Pulling an all-nighter would be a bad idea but....

Man, the Giants look impressive today. Based on how we played last week, it looks like they have blown past us.

Given their extra concessions, the Giants should be a better team than the Suns. But there's a way to go yet until this all plays out. Either way, it al makes the Victorians whinge so it's ok.
