Sorry to intrude, but the word I have is that a succession plan is on the table which is still to be agreed to by all parties at Port but they are hoping to get it done. With Hinkley to get another 12 months and a huge bonus $$$$ if he snags a flag this year, and for Carr to take over in 2025. If the deal gets done expect Carr to pull out of richmond coaching race probably during the bye week before finals.
succession plans are a load of bullshite and have never worked in history

Couldn't believe my eyes in the game day thread when everyone was lauding mini for "moving the magnets" and put Balta forward.

Our defence absolutely went to s**t the moment that move was made. Their key forwards were already having a good game but to move your best KPD out to compound the problem is borderline moronic.

One tin arse goal doesn't mean the move worked at all.

Could be the dumbest coaching move you'll see all season from 18 clubs including West Coast and North Melbourne.

Went into the game with no marking targets when Ryan and Cumberland were available (Miller does not count ) so you need to own that decision. You don't then completely sabotage team structure by moving the #1 intercept marker in the AFL.

Thanks but no thanks Mini. Good luck in the future.

Hardwick took a few too many games to realize that playing Noah Balta in the forward line and ruck is a recipe for disaster hopefully McQualter is a faster learner.

I can see some value in sending Balta up forward to pinch hit a goal or two if it occurs in 5 or so minutes of play and his goal was a huge bollocking power goal but then send him back to defence treat it like Shorty bombing a goal from 55 metres out take it as a bonus a big momentum power up.

Really unfortunate that several umpiring decisions had such an impact on the momentum of the game, 4 umpires just maximises the discrepancy in interpretation it compounds the problem does not dilute wrong or missed decisions. Again we get the spiky end of the pineapple.

Now rolling a dice on a key opponent is usually a risk on balance you may take because they may not get an opportunity to get hands on the ball.

But not against a champion ruckman by definition in AFL football the ruck will get multiple opportunities in a game to impact and get his hands on the ball either in the centre square or around the ground.

Soldo who is notionally our second string ruck, battled manfully, taking out his back up against one of the best ruckman in the modern game was not a calculated risk it was reckless and the results showed.

Unfortunately mini’s connection with the playing group is gunna be his demise. Need someone to come in and make the hard decisions to move on ex premiership players immediately .
This is the biggest issue. We need fresh eyes and fresh tactics not Dimma mkII. We need to evolve.

Maybe that's mini's only plan B. Thought it went ok with Vlaus, so why not Balta?

I still think Leppa would be the best fit for Richmond if he had not ruled himself out but from the remaining candidates Josh Carr looks like the best option

Hopefully next season with a healthy list the new coach will restructure the team with the younger kids we have on the list

Wins & Losses Under Mini

Lost to 2nd place Port by 10
Beat 6th place Giants by 6
Beat 15h place Dockers by 15
Beat 5th placed Saints by 20
Loss to 3rd place Lions by 81
Beat 10th place Swans by 13
Beat 18th placed Eagles by 38
Beat 16th placed Hawks by 1
Lost to 4th place Demons by 32

Half our wins are to bottom 4 teams with an average winning margin of just 18 points, which is more than 50% LESS than what these teams lose by on average. Our other wins are against teams in the same point of flux as us, always be a coin-flip.

This stuff isn't going to mean anything in terms of who will be our next coach. All your list of performances since Mini has been coach does is reflect perfectly where our team is without a viable key forward right now. We are not able to take advantage of Port, Hawks or Swans major weaknesses in defensive key positions for eg.

The club will rightly ignore all of this other than to acknowledge the team is functioning as you would expect in the circumstances, so it clearly doesn't prove that A McQ cannot coach. Richmond will set up its criteria, perhaps along these lines:

- Ability to communicate both to players and the public. McQualter handles this with ease.

- Familiarity with contemporary game day tactics. McQualter will be as far across this as anyone.

- Relationship management. Ability to connect with players and help them connect with each other. This was Hardwick's great strength and you would be doing well to find anyone that does this anywhere near as well. We just cannot make a sound judgement about Mini in this area as the connections are built mainly according to what the leaders focus on when the whips are cracking over time.

- Strategic thinking in terms of player management, game plans, training methods and so on.

- Footballing philosophies.

These last 2 I think you just have to see what the applicants bring to the table. But our performances under Mini wouldn't come into it, unless he showed himself to be either a genius coach or incompetent, and he has done neither.

tell him hes not getting the job as the ultimate test to see what he does. if he goes into his shell and just coasts to 10th * him off. if he goes hard and makes some bold calls he's in.

He made a bold onfield call yesterday that didn’t come off and people here want him in front of the firing squad.

That’s the problem with big calls. They come off you look like a king, they don’t you’re a dunce.

you said succession plans have never worked.
roos and then goodwin winning the flag isnt proof of a succession plan working

they brought in the stand rule for 21 and the doggies werent even allowed to train for the 2021 gf

asterisk of the highest order

I'm thinking more like dropping some underperforming premiership players for once and getting the kids banging the door down into the team.
At the moment we're in cruise control heading towards 10-11th spot. We mightn't make finals with the changes I'm suggesting either but it would show a bit of balls and a willingness to break traditions set by Dimma.

To be fair Jack Riewoldt even said on 360, it shouldn't be up to the players whether players play on & even said the club should have the power, I doubt he plays on regardless of what Mini said about it's up to "Jack & Trent whether they want to play on" also Hartley would make decisions as well with the football department.

I do agree with that it's players like Grimes that should not be going on.

Mini should be told immediately that he is not getting the job so he can concentrate on development
Disagree with that, Mini is not my preference however as he is going for the job he should be given equal chance to get it like anyone else.

We need a game plan that is based around the strengths of our list right now, not the same gameplan that revolved around our strengths 7 years ago. Whoever the new coach is needs to cater for that. Not sure Mini is capable of being truly objective with the players on the list and the best way forward given his history with this group.

A midfield of Hopper, Dusty, Prestia, Bolton and Taranto should be the centerpiece of the new gameplan for starters. Clearance work should be the priority, not an afterthought as it has been for nearly a decade.
