Hi Mrs Macqualter.

Rubbish. He’s proven he hasn’t got the backbone whilst interim coach. He’s not capable in the gig.

If he gets the gig full time, lots of reruns of 2017, 2019 and 2020 will be played in Tiger households.

Anyone but Mini. He’s got St Kilda blood. He can go there and not win a Premiership. Our club exists to win.
didnt aints play in a granny when mqualter was there

newy at Richmond on the other hand ....

taking Newman would fell like we are back to the rubbish we were before the culture change, that whole era reeked of me attitude.
i really was never a fan and was pleased when he finished and i am not just blaming him but our whole club changed attitudes around that time.

if he gets it ill still support the club but it scares me a hell of a lot more than giving mini the job.

Hard to say
I’ve heard on a few separate occasions that Newy was one of the driving forces of the culture change that the playing group went through and he had a massive influence on Cotch in helping him start that process during the 2016 pre season

Weren’t people saying he was similar to Deledio, cliquey and divided the group?

(Not saying he would be like that a a coach btw)

what proof are you on about? and who is your choice ?you berated the club when they sounded out Newman saying it reeked of "jobs for the boys"
Newman is qualified for the job. Highly rated outside of Richmond. Coach of the year as well as VFL premiership. Unsure why the dislike, other then no success as a player. Between him and Yze.

I'm a no for Mini, whilst I acknowledge it's hard to change a game plan/style mid season, we need to move to something new and fresh, to keep up with the comp and to refresh the existing playing group.

I also think he tried to take the safe route whilst interim, leaving players like Kmac playing week in week out, who were severely underperforming, and while a few kids got a go, it was always the easy way, that kids got dropped before out of form senior players. That can't happen if we want to reset standards to eb the best again. The fact he didn't do it this year, means if it he tries it next year, it won't have the impact it should and the players will see right through it.

But the biggest reason for me...

He doesn't get the chance to have an "Instant Impact". He knows the players, he has existing relationships with the players, they already know what they can and can't get away with.

With a new coach, from outside the club, it's the fresh voice, the new messaging, the slight adjustments in personnel, it's the players having to be at their best to prove themselves to a new coach. You get none of this fresh drive when it's someone already within the club.

It's nothing personal against Min himself, it's just the opportunity an outside coach presents that is the driver for change, change we clearly need sitting 12th/13th on the ladder.

I woz having a crack at tigerBobs comments and quote, not the RichmondFC or newy, love newy. just don't think he's quite right for the top job just yet.

It's a no from me on Mini too I'm afraid.

Obviously purely just an outsider's perspective here but he hasn't really impressed me. Three decent wins against Saints/Swans/Giants but I'm not sure if that's enough to warrant continuing with him.

Understand that being a caretaker is a really tough gig and it limits your ability to really make major changes, so it is a bit of a poison chalice, but I think with where the club is at now we really need a completely fresh perspective from someone external.

To the people saying that hiring Newman would take us back to the selfish era he and Lids were apart of, I feel like you're not taking into account how people evolve. Especially over a 10+ year period.
I'm personally not a fan of the prospect of Mini taking over as senior coach.
I'd like to see the teams game style transformed so that it can adapt to the rule changes that were clearly made to stop us. So, if we can get a new coach who has a lot of tactical nous to take us back to the top it would be a big middle finger to the AFL.
I dont think Mini would be able to do that as he has been embedded in our system for far too long.

Its the shift and momentum for change...
And as the players and assistant coaches join/buy in...it builds further momentum for change...
Fresh young recruited faces eager to impress the new coach...builds further momentum for change...
Some wins on the board...strengthens the ongoing momentum...

history as well, off the top of my head only Sydney has had success with a care taker coach - that being John longmire. other than that the wheels have always fallen off

Longmire wasn't a caretaker coach was he?, he had a succession plan with Roos, like with Goodwin/Melbourne.

interesting post this last bit, as what both fly and Kingsley have done seems to be working and also Hardwick says he's going to introduce the Collingwood Richmond and giants style of play at the sun's.
I am of the firm opinion that Mini is smart enough to have a fresh approach but also take a leaf out of Dimmas, Flys and Kingsley's book of evolutions and strategies of football.

Our selfish era left when TV left the building , which also coincided with dramatically improved on field success . Who’d have thought !!

We did not have the team when Newman was captain, he lead us during one of our darkest era's deserves a lot of respect.
I think we need go back a bit to go forward with Newman as a fresh face/fresh voice we will slowly build up again.

The reason it's working with Fly and Kinga, is because it's being preached to a new set of ears. A fresh playing group who haven't heard it before.

Game plans etc are copied right across the league, and at the right time/place/moment, someone will perfect it and be successful. But that same group, at some stage will become stale with the same message/gameplan, and while it may be successful at other places, once you lose it, it's time for change.

Mini can't do that, an outsider can.

maybe so he just played in that crap era and i probably painted him with the same brush
