Might be worth waiting and seeing how we go next year with whoever our coach is, we were ordinary this year and still in it with 3 games to go, so not sure we need a full rebuild?

We still have a reasonable amount of quality if some of our youth take the next step and we get a bit of a better run with injuries, problem with rebuilds is they set the club back on and off the field and as that happens it becomes more difficult to attract the quality in players and coaches that you need to get back up the ladder, one 37 year shite fest is enough for any supporter.

We've done rebuilds until my arse bleeds over the years, build a good core of age experience and ability which we arent far from already having and add whats needed is better IMO, could be back fighting for flags in 2-3 years with some luck and the right coaching group.

We need future A+ players to come good as the likes of TT Hopper Bolton, Balta hit their prime years for a strong finals push.

Gibcus had leg problems going into the draft when we desperately needed mids. Also good Defenders can be found late in the draft and mature aged players.

what really should have happened was we go down like we have for the last couple of years use the draft. Hit the next two years of being dog crap get two top 5 picks and THEN we sign players like TT and Hopper to go for another flag. All leaving the experienced players hitting their prime with fresh youth coming through impacting games.

they want us to be competitive like Geelong. but we don't have what the cats have.

Home stadium, a great location to raise kids, beach and a house that suites luxury lifestyle. The city lifestyle in melboune other clubs can provide.
All offset by the fact it's full of Geelong boguns. It's like Melton, but with a polluted waterfront.

Pass.

The more I've read about the candidates the more I like Yze.

As a specialist(goal kicking)/developmental coach initially with Hawthorn he helped their side harness their kicking skills that saw Hawthorn become one of the best users of the ball during their threepeat, then when he went to Melbourne for the 2021 season, he is credited for making their defensive unit the best in the league before moving to the midfield and making that group one of the best midfield units in the league over the last couple of years. Not only that but as Goodwins senior assistant, he is the leader in the coaches box as Goodwin coaches from the bench.

Then when you look at who he has been coached by and worked under. Initially coached by Neil Balme, then Neale Daniher and Dean Bailey as a player, he has then worked under Clarkson, Mitchell and Goodwin. So he has a great blend of philosophies to draw on should be become a senior coach in his own right and by the sounds of it he has a good understanding of what team success is built on.

Seeing how well Kinglsey and Mcrae have done at GWS and Collingwood, if Mini wasn't already at Richmond he'd probably be the standout candidate. The richmond style is still the most successful brand at the moment, not sure we need a complete revolution we just need to turnover the list and get in more young talent, as well as improve our defensive side of the game. Mcqualter is still only 37, he still has a lot of growth

Good to see more posters getting on board the Yze train

Kingsley and McRae have taken what worked for us in 2017-2020 and taken it to the next evolution. Firstly they are both defensively very strong across the park to allow them to win the ball back in good positions. Then once they do win the ball back have speed to open the game up, it's not just players with speed, but also speed of ball movement, that then gives their forwards opportunity to work in space and generally in 1-1 contests.

We never really saw any of that with McQualter, which could have been by design, as why would we give opposition teams a look at how MCQualter is going to coach before he actually gets the gig full time. So unless he has a presentation where is shows that he is going to change up the way we've played I'm not sure he gets the gig full time.

Sounds good if you ask me. Yze before Newman, happy with both though.

Not even sure if he's in the mix but Ash Hansen probably the best available of premiership players that are also rated coaches.

Also coached a VFL premiership in 2016. I'd like him to he further up the contenders list but haven't heard his name.
From the outside he seems like an ideal candidate. Surprised that he hasn't even been mentioned.

Then again, this is the AFL media we're talking about.

When the playing group disengaged towards the end of the season, that told you everything you needed to know.

McQualter was not the coach Richmond needs going forward.

As for Newman too much baggage at Richmond.
Nothing against you personally but this take is shocking.
It's been eight years.
This isn't high school. Regardless of what happened while he was here, people evolve and the guy is a legitimately good coach.
He played 268 games for the club and if you don't think he will be welcomed back with open arms, you're crazy.
Yes Richmond had a bit of a selfish culture while he was at the club, but like I said, people evolve and im sure he would foster a great culture if he was successful in getting the role.

Board members still remember the trouble he caused for Wallace. :$

Hardwick and Bev learned from Clarkson and I'm not sure think Simpson may have also. So those 2 had the credentials and Goodwin had a good grounding with Roos. The thing with that list cries out for youth coaches under 40. The days of Sheedys, pagans, and Malthouse are gone. Younger people bring in new ideas for the better or not for footy is another matter.
Hardwick learnt from LEPPA FLY and Caracella. Mini and Hardwick were just blow flies eating for free and shitting out maggots.
