Richmond 2007 National Draft

3.1ish for 20m. Hmmmmmmm

Last I checked Hawthorn have a draft sticky yet you are still so focused on Richmond?

Whilst Rance isn't up at the 2.9s in terms of the 20m what makes him so good as a backmen is his ability to read the play such that he can not only spoil but then rebound.

3.1 is not quick. Over 20m the difference between a 2.7 and a 3.1 can be 2.5metres. More when the FF has the priveledge of moving first. HOWEVER, not too many key forwards post 2.7s ... most of the big blokes are at 3.0 secs as well. Certainly will be after the hit the gym.

Anyway Thursfield will play on the super-quick leading players. Rance will push over onto the taller blokes and 3rd forwards.

Very, very happy the Tiges picked up Rance at 18. Being his family friend, he would be disappointed to drop that far but happy to go to a Melbourne club. New second team for me! Hope to see him debut in Rd 1! I can also assure you he is NOT slow, infact our family always saw him as an athlete. One more thing, within a few years you'd rather see Rancey at CHB rather then FB, as he is more of a dasher.

Reckon he is good enough to play some games next year bulldogs? Or will it take him a year to settle?

Very, very, very few draft picks play in year 1. I think only 3 or 4 blokes played 10 games out of last years' draft. Everitt was the most successful of the tall blokes and he was a season-end cameo. Rance won't be any prominent than Reiwoldt.

I reckon he would definitely play a few games next year, he is well developed and already has the body to play at AFL level. Interesting to see how many. Looking foward to seeing him play in the NAB cup as it will give us all an insight of how capable he is at the top level. After witnessing his WAFL league debut, I honestly think he can play 15+ games next year for the Tiges because as I have said he is already developed and isn't afraid to go in hard. That game he got something like 23 touches and 7 marks and got in the best players.
Also saw a bit of him at colts and both he and big Nic Naitunui dominate, as does Dave Ellard who I'm surprised to see not get picked up as he is a genuine goal kicking type. In terms of comparison's, I would rate Rancey to be a Matt Maguire type player with much better skills and a better reader of the play along with his better ability to run foward and kick a goal, as he averaged over a goal a game this year at Colts level in the WAFL.
All the best in 2008, look foward to watching all 22 games and see a Rising Star season from Rancey ;)

Rance slipped because he is slow. Its that simple.

Being Slow and playing FB as pretty much ur only positions, means big trouble IMO.

You cant talk, you picked up Cyriol Rioli who refused to take a beep test, then was forced, to bad who wont turn into a midfielder

And stuart dew pick up that was a fantastic grab:thumbsdown:
he is 28 he gains weight quickly and was already big to start with and had fitness problems, also a year out of the game, looks like a 0 gamer

oh and gilham isnt fast he is still a good backman

just watch in the next 4 years he will be the AA backman

Your opinion doesnt count - stick to your own board

Sigh  Very very intelligent response, pretty sure its a Draft and Trading forum u peanut.

This draft was weak in the sense that each player after about pick 2 comes with question marks. Rance has weaknesses just like about 60 of the other draftees taken today. Rances weakness is his speed and wether he might get chopped up by quick forwards. His kicking isnt anything special in terms of distance. Nice dinky little kick but lacks any real penetration over long distances.

BF consensus means squat in terms of where the players are ranked by recruiting managers. People need to really remember that.

I know you mean well LH, but your post does come across as another Hawthorn V Richmond post, which has obviously got under a few people's skins.

I myself wouldn't call Rance a steal as such, but I would call him good value for #18.

Just after quality discussion, sometimes its very rare on BF. Been saying the same things on Rance for months. Wasnt anything to do with hanging garbage on Richmond, more just trying to explain the weaknesses he has.
BF had Rance as a lock Top 10, i bet if u asked the recruiters to show u there boards, people would get a huge surprise. But im stating the obvious there.

The other problem with these speed tests is that there isn't a footy coming towards them when they are measured. For example Gaspar, pre-knee op, was fairly quick off the mark but it was his ability to read the ball in the air that made him as successful as he was (despite whatever other weaknesses were in his game). Speed is very important these days, but it isn't the only part of the equation.

Richmond have Thursfield to take the quick forwards, Rance can hold down a key position.

They will be the PERFECT foil for eachother.

Rance is already bigger than Thursfield and McGuane so expect him to play senior footy next year.

KING THURSFIELD BOWDEN
MCMAHON RANCE CASSERLEY

Thats a good yong backline. Plenty of skill, athletic ability, run and drive.

For those who say 3.01 over 20 is not fast should take a look at the results of some of the other highly rated key position players

Darcy Daniher 3.07
Matthew Kreuzer 3.11
Lachlan Henderson 3.14
Matthew Lobbe 3.11
Ben McEvoy 3.28
Andy Otten 3.06
Scott Simpson 3.16

And then theres the mids
Patrick Veszpremi 3.02
Callan Ward 3.03
Ashley Arrowsmith 3.16
Addam Maric 3.07
Scott Selwood 3.02

I think you get my point, Rance is far from slow:thumbsu:
