Riewoldt - beaten in 2 grand finals

Why try and turn this into a mud-throwing contest?

The fact is that you need to at least provide a contest when you're a forward. Riewoldt was beaten too easily by Brown on the day, and this was manifest in the contested marks Brown took on Riewoldt.

You know zip about football mate. You have not an ounce of cred on these forums and I wonder why anyone bothers with your drivel.

I think quite a lot of people would be tired of your insistence on overstating things with gross overgeneralisations and ridiculous hyperbole, HodgePodge. Take a deep breath, come to the realisation that not everything (in fact nothing really) is black and white, and give Brown some credit rather than taking puerile delight in knocking a bloke.

I know plenty, but why not discuss the issue rather than resorting to ad hominem attacks?

Nathan Brown took the honours, and this was highlighted by the contested marks he took on his opponent.

I give Brown plenty of credit, as he did a job better than anyone thought he could.

Not knocking Riewoldt either, just that he was beaten very convincingly. Taking a contested mark on your forward is really a show of dominance over your opponent. The equivalent of selling some candy in the midfield.

Why go to the Grand Final is what I want to know? You clearly know nothing about football and your seat would be better filled by a real football fan.

Riewoldt wasn't beaten by Nathan Brown. Riewoldt was beaten by his team mates. Worst disposal inside 50 seen an many a long day. Hard to bag a bloke when the ball is constantly on his toes or over his head.

Just to help us all out what sort of figures are we talking for Riewoldt to play well? By your standards if Riewoldt was to have had a good game were talking 22 marks 10 goals.

Because you are a little sniper who has no interest in the subject. Just sniping.

I think everyone, including the man himself, would say he didn't play well.

Of his 16 disposals, 4 were clangers and 50% were ineffective. Was regularly outmarked by Brown in every one-on-one duel. Also missed some easy shots at goal.

Good news is that he should play better next week.

Nice table. Doesn't mean anything, but it looks nice. :thumbsu:

I thought I'd put a small amount of effort into presentation.

The figures give context to the game, some will get it, some won't.

The Fatman is Mark Chapman to Riewoldt's John Lennon

speaking of which I had $10 on Sam Fisher at $70 for the Norm Smith.

You say Brown convincingly beat Riewoldt, and your entire argument is based on one contest.

By this logic, it wouldn't be ridiculous to suggest Jason Gram convincingly beat Dane Swan on Saturday.

Riewoldt had three contested marks on Saturday, and Nathan Brown two. In an election, 60/40 is a landslide, but in a game, looking at a match up, and based on one contest, and not the entire game which suggests otherwise, saying one player convincingly beat another player, is just stirring the pot, rather than providing a genuine appraisal of the game as it happened.

Maybe you should learn what regular means. Pretty hard to regularly outmark someone when you only take two for the whole game.

They were pretty much the only two one-on-ones for the game between those two.

The second one was very important for Collingwood. It looked like being at least a spill into StKilda's forward line but Brown outmarked Riewoldt and won possession. Big moment in the game.

No it's not. It's also not logical to compare contested marks between the two unless they were taken on each other.

And even then you'd expect the forward to win that every time since the forward is marking only, while the defender has the option of the spoil.

Quite right. Riewoldt, by his own high standards was beaten but it's drawing a long bow to say Brown beat him single handedly even if he did render him fairly ineffective. By the same token not all the kudos goes to the Pies backline since he just wasn't given the opportunity by his team mates. We all know what Riewoldt is capable of and watch out if he gets away.

And even then you'd expect the forward to win that every time since the forward is marking only, while the defender has the option of the spoil...

... and the year is 1949.

Possession is king, and punching when you can mark it just not taking possession seriously enough.

When the defender has a clear advantage, and the forward cannot make a play on the ball, why on Earth would the defender punch?

Reasonableness - something that only happens to other people, not HodgePodge
