Right now, Richmond deserve to be premiership favorites

Inconsistency still an issue but their best matches it with anyone at the moment. Have every right to be delighted with the form but it was only last week that they lost to another top side. Providing great entertainment and every team will know they have a tough match when they play them. If that consistency comes, they could go pretty deep into September.

No... Both Maclure and this thread are completely batsh*t crazy.
I cant help but like Maclure he hates Richmond ever since losing a Grand Final to us but does speak his mind even if some of it is BS, always recall him in his younger days dropping in to the old Middle Brighton pub on the occasional Thursday nights and having a beer or two in the days when footballers were still allowed to have a life, by god he has aged a lot since then though.

So you'd probably need to beat say freo in Perth and then Sydney in Sydney in the space of a few weeks is what you are saying? Yeah agree, that's the stuff of fantasy...
A recent example is north last year, came to the SCG in round 4 and defeated us by 40 odd points, then they came up again to ANZ in the finals and lost by 72 points. Not saying it'll happen to Richmond, but finals against experienced teams like hawks and swans an even Fremantle is a different ball game, and Richmond has showed it struggles to stand up to finals pressure, losing to 9th an 5th respectively.

Richmond haven't proven anything yet.

Sure - beat the top sides, away from home. Anyone can do that. Means nothing.

Let's see them do it when it counts.

a) On their home ground
b) When favorites
c) Against a poor side missing their few good players
d) In front of a small and disinterested half-arsed crowd.

Then we'll see................

Yeah thats true but we are gradually getting some experience although only of the losing kind, I just hope that eventuallly our players realise that if they give their all we can match it with most teams week in week out, still a long way from premierships but at least we still seem to be heading in the right direction.

Thats two in a row against the Swans now and this time no one can say they rested their best players.

I will be taking my son's Chinese cousins (who'll be visiting Aus. on holiday) to the Richmond St Kilda match. They don't speak English and have never even heard of Australian football. I anticipate they will have a better idea of what is happening on the field than Maclure.

To be honest you have the wood on us, shit myself whenever we play Richmond. You've played some great footy this year, but you done this last year, 2013, an 2012, it's nothing we all haven't seen before, unlike what everyone else is saying I don't believe your next three weeks define you, I reckon your a lock for finals regardless, an win a final an its success for the year, lose an it's not different to your last three.

Lol yeah true but at least he is not a robot like a lot of them these days spouting whatever is fashionable, and like most Carlton supporters his over confidence in the Blues always gives me chuckle.

Yeah another finals loss will definitely be a huge failure.

Richmond would've developed a lot of confidence from the last 6 games. Most of these games would've got some monkeys of some backs.

They hadn't beaten Collingwood since 2007. That's a big win for them.

They were humiliated by Port in last years finals. To beat them at Adelaide Oval was massive, even if they're not at their best.

They won the dreamtime game for the first time since 2011, after being humiliated in the last two.

Comfortably beat the unbeaten ladder leaders at their home ground. Huge win.

Came back from 32 points down to beat a premiership contender on their home deck. First win at SCG since 2004.

Each one of those wins would've built a lot of belief.

Richmond teams from 2009-11 featured no more than two players with a winning record in Richmond colours. Our premiership teams of the 70's regularly had 20/20.

This year the number has generally been in the range 13-16/22 (with a low of 8 in the Geelong & North defeats). Hardwick deserves tremendous credit for introducing new blood at that point, which has reinvigorated the team even if it hasn't contributed significantly stats-wise. Slowly, we are getting there.

To be fair we lost those finals game but that is a part of our maturing list. Don't think anyone expected us to beat Port last year.

Make no mistake we are still a young side this year and blooding Menadue/Ellis (although rested/injured for this weekend) will put us in good stead.

I still think our peak is starting from about 2017 when:

Cotchin is 27
Lids is 30
Edwards 28
B Ellis 23
C Ellis 20
Griffiths 25
Grigg 29
Houli 29
Lennon 21
Dusty 26
McIntosh 23
Menadue 20
Astbury 26
Batchelor 25
Miles 25
Rance 27
Riewoldt 28
Vickery 27
Vlaustin 23
Grimes 25
McBean 22

Midfield brigage that we are building: Cotchin, Dustin, Ellis, Edwards, Lids, Miles, Conca, McIntosh will be about peaking and Corey Ellis and Menadue who have shown in their first year to have bundles of talent will be old enough to hold their own. This combined with the fact we have barely touched FA will see us hitting our straps and having a genuine crack at the top 4.

We need to find a long term replacement for Maric, but that is about it as Lids is our next older player who has just turned 28. Think the side will look for a bit of polish between now and then to add on top of this core. Dare I say...some x-factor types.

I don't doubt you're a maturing side, I'm just saying that you guys beating sydney or other top teams is nothing we havent seen before, like I said I feel Richmond has cemented their spot in the 8 an hell top 4 isn't out of reach (unlikely though), but if you lose your first final this year again it will be a failure an no different to last year, I think you guys had 15wins 7losses in H&A in 2013, quite a solid year for you guys an only 2 points behind 4th, yet you went and lost your first final to a team that wasn't good enough to make the finals. Put this H&A win into perspective, you defeated both hawks an Sydney in 2012, Hawthorn again in 2013, an Sydney in 2014, an unfortunately for Richmond it meant nothing come finals time. I think Richmond's inconsistency can be ironed with with a finals win an belief within the playing group that anything is possible, because beating top teams in the past hasn't proved that.

No chance at top4 let alone a flag. Hopefully a finals win maybe 2.
The club needs this to happen as we are 1 or 2 very good players from being a serious threat. Unfortunately if we don't improve on our last 2 season than no good players will want to come to this club.

Put aside our losses to Melbourne and Bulldogs (Which are in the 8) what would peoples general thoughts be if we actually beat the Eagles last week? Big hypothetical I know but we have played the top 3 teams in a row now and come away with 2-1 record.

Im happy with how the club is going at the moment and whilst not this season hopefully with the right recruits and some more good drafting we are not too far away. Bridge the gap from our worst to our best and we are in with a shot. This will happen with experience. People often forget how young our side actually is.

What Richmond needs to do is overachieve, players need the belief that they are capable of matching it consistently with the top echelon of teams, look at port in 2013, they had an extremely young list, an out of nowhere they won a final an then just lost against Geelong in the semi, they overachieved, but all of a sudden they had belief in 2014, an bang one kick away from a gf, they look worn out now but they done more in 2 years than Richmond have done in 20 years. That's what Richmond needs.

GWS, Carlton and the Saints. On paper, the next 3 weeks should be comfortable wins, but we could undo all our hard work by dropping one of those games. Premiership contenders would put those sides to the sword and boost percentage. Lets now see if we can get the job done with all the pressure on us when we are the favourites and the hunted.

Great post and that to me is why I am stoked with Hardwick and the list management at the club. Even as recently as 3 years ago, our best, was still not good enough to beat the top 6th side and our worst was always a 10 goal thumping. We are a long way from a Premership chance, I say 2 more drafts before we start to compete but the improvement from our best, we can now say, if we are on we can beat any team, and our worst performances have improved as we very rarely get smashed by 10 plus goals.

Says to me, my team is finally growing up
