Rubbish the dna is you compete for everyball Everyone defends every minute of the game if not you will be dropped if you cant see that and now we have the cattle with games under their belt and game breakers ie dawson , rachelle , rankine etc plus 1 or 2 we may get at the end of this season even blind freddy can see this

This I dont agree with. We have shown as a club - Nicks included- that some players have a lot more leeway in what they can get away with

Thats our DNA

I am a huge fan, but I don’t think his marking is that good. He had five contested marks on Saturday, but there’s contested and then there’s really contested. He’s not at the absolute top end of pack marks, yet.
Agree with everything else you said though, he’s great.
Wait until he bulks up even more. His ability to fully extend his arms and mark at the highest point, and then bring the ball back down quickly is absolutely a trait of being a good contested marker. I never said he was splitting the pack, yet.

So what's the go with this guy. Only 7 goals this year, 5 of them vs Port. Seems to have a big game then goes missing for a month. Is he ok fitness wise, confidence wise or is Tex and Fog taking all his opportunities. Can't seem to work this guy this season.

He's fine. The biggest issue Thilthorpe has is he is playing as a third tall at the moment, and that boy has no concept of being a role player.

I reckon he plays better when one of fog or tex are out. Struggles to
Find his role when they are both in

I think at the moment his best role is when he is played deep but he isn't given that opportunity much. He does get it when there is only one of Tex and Fog but when not he is up the ground. It will come though, we just need to keep putting games into him at the moment at AFL level

So does that mean he gets the third defender, or as some like to say lacks the iq to play the role
I think it’s the case of as he’s the third tall he doesn’t have the ball directed to him as much as Tex and Fog. He also spends time up the ground rucking.

There were contests he should have done better in though.

I think we should consider him to play the Tom Lynch role until Tex is gone, move up the ground and provide that link, given his height and athleticism he’d be a tough match up.

He seems to be playing a similar role. Against Freo and Carlton he was good, he’s just not going to kick the bag of goals.

He does. It likely boils down to just being a square peg in a round hole. Considering our forward line is top 4 at the moment, there is little prospect of that changing.

This is a kid who has already won multiple games off his own boot. IQ is not an issue. That's the same trap I and others fell for with Fog.

Exactly this. No coincidence his bag of goals came when Fog was out. He needs to be the focal point when the balls coming in.

After seeing a few comments on him in the game day thread I watched his game closely in the replay, and actually thought he went ok tbh. His general field play when rucking up and around the ground was really good - he made some really good decisions and executed some really smart plays to set up his team mates.

I really like your idea of playing the link man role until Tex is phased out. He's got all of these tools to do that.

Not sure if serious?

Played 4 full games. One close to BOG and equalled career high 5 goals (most of any player). The following week arguably almost as good against Freo with game high contested marks. Serviceable against Blues and then a quiet game just gone.

seriously what are you expecting?

I disagree with the idea to move Thilly to being a Tom Lynch role and letting him work up the field more. The forward line is working and we look on track to get 130+ goals out of Fog, Tex and Rankine at this point.

Unfortunately for Thilly, what we need is someone else being a threat deep in the forward line to ideally create space and a bit of chaos with high balls. If we're not ready to move Tex to that kind of role, then it's up to Thilthorpe.

There were marking contests he had clean hands on and didn’t take, look I like the kid but at times he disappoints me with his contest. He also escapes criticism a lot, and when you point out things people get very defensive toward him but are ready to knock the piss out of others.
I have also given him praise when warranted, one from left field I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes a short break from footy, just a gut feeling
