Then all thr other contested marks and a few decent ground balls in the wet too
He has well needed to improve. What I was happiest about was his apparent attitude in this match. Up until now he has looked pretty tentative, but against the Pies I daresay that I thought I detected some first signs of mongrel about him. We need more of that, then the rest will follow.

Another thing I noticed is that, when he kicks immediately from a boundary possession, he just goes instantly across the ground into the centre, almost without looking. This is very risky, but he got away with it, unlike his game-losing cross against Freo last year. Do you think this behaviour is under instruction?

No I think he’s confident in his skills and it’s instinct

I’d say he was going very well before this game

Showdown and Freo games in particular but this was another big performance

Shame he missed his set shot

Wasn't going to post these as they're becoming par for the course but his kicking touch is pretty deft

People need to remember that big guys take a while to develop.

TT is developing nicely IMO
Well, he is arguable ahead of McDonald and JUH in term of development and given what he did against the Hawks in his 1st season, Collingwood in the 2nd season and Port Power this year we understandably have high standard of him but naturally his not consistent yet for a young big man.

I actually think he's quietly stringing together a very consistent stretch of games right now. Not hitting the scoreboard much in his current role, but certainly impacting games across the 4 quarters way more often then the last 2 seasons.

He is building a good base consistency but when he build a consistency of those 3 games......the Collingwood game last year is what I see Thilthorpe develop into, he will still had 3-4 shots on goal resting forward while leading the ruck with his clearance work around stoppage and taking contested mark around the ground.

While Thilthorpe is not yet scoring reliable bags of goals as a forward, the other work he is doing around the ground is quite valuable. Roaming up onto the wing for contested marks and quickly dishing it off to players in dangerous positions is extremely useful, and he almost never gets that kick wrong. Sums up the situation really well.

GrommoT do you have the one where he took contested mark just outside forward 50 (actually a free but he earned it), then laced out Rachele?

What you're also not seeing from Thilthorpe this game was any blunders, apart from 1 behind. Every kick hit it's target and was generally very damaging. We've all noticed his natural "Kick inside quickly after mark" and I absolutely love it.

Also, the main reason he is not kicking bags of goals is because his role is usually further up ground providing a target, leaving Fog & Tex as the main inside 50m targets.

However, where Fog & Tex are struggling like last week, we should look to use him deeper.

Wow, I forgot that one. That's class for a 202cm player.

I think we need to always remember when Riley puts in a poor game. That this level of ball control and skill is his floor.

And we've not even remotely seen his ceiling yet.
His only problem is going to be finding enough of the ball, when that happens we should be able to stick him in the ruck to help him get around it.

People expecting way too much out of him too soon. In the last few weeks we've seen him have one dominant game up forward(coincidence that it was when Fogarty was out & had to shoulder more role up there?), then start taking lots of contested marks around the ground. It's really excellent progress for a young guy like him.

Tracking along very well.

The forward role he's playing when Tex and Fogarty are in the team seems akin to be the old school CHF rule that's largely disappeared from modern AFL in the big CHF roaming deep onto the wing to take a big contested mark.

Suspect the reason it disappeared is that there aren't many players with Thilthorpe's ability to take the grabs and it being too risky
