For someone as passionate about Australian basketball as gaze is, he would have been totally shattered by the result.

The times when I watched at home on Channel 7's main channel made me have a pang of nostalgia for the Atlanta Games. This time though the fuzziness wasn't because of satellite issues, but because of standard definition transmission on a high definition TV.

Not having Foxtel as part of the coverage was a pain, but I didn't mind the Olympics on 7 app - I didn't have any streaming issues and even with the limited stations available on the 'free' version, I felt it made the Olympics very accessible.

It's interesting to see all the discussion surrounding Basil Zempilas. I find Basil a likeable host and presenter, but he's a dreary caller of sport full stop. He can't capture an event's crescendo. As for the swimming - I swear for the first four days he kept saying "good start by the Aussie" even if our swimmer was drowning. Once (women's 200 metre final?) he said it before anyone had even left the blocks! Giaan Rooney I thought was OK on comments, but not in the same class as Rob Woodhouse on ABC Radio.

sorry but basil is complete and utter shit, the guy has no idea what hes calling as evidence by the fact he calls a good start when they havent even left the blocks. When watching a WR get broken he had absolutely no emotion in the call. Useless flog he is

Compared to the track and field commentators, they were so excited when a WR was broken.

Basil was just annoyed that an Australian didn't break any WRs

I think Channel 7 (most channels really) like to use events such as the Olympics to show how good their team of commentators and reporters are.

But in Seven's case (not that they are the only ones), they tend to show how bad they really are, particularly their level of knowledge when it comes to them covering niche sports.

just going through a replay of the 200m mens butterfly, this proves my point he said if your at work just pretend you are looking at a very important spreadsheet, who says that as a commentator

Will be interesting to see what changes are put in place by April 2018 for the Commonwealth games. 18 months or so for ch7 to think of ways to improve their coverage and sign up better commentators

basil is a west coast supporter big time, im sure hes sleeping with some of the eagles players :p
Richmond
I couldn't fault the coverage even with Basil involved.

I think what needs to happen is that NBC are given no say so as to what time events are shown and when, because the athletes are more important than the coverage or the ratings. FACT.
Hopefully with Phelps gone, they won't butcher it for Tokyo.
