Wonder if your other 20 posts in 8 years make as much sense as this?

Hope you hang around for the autopsy.
Well...the theory is sound, but let’s not forget Fisher being left out of the side last year and Moore being given games before TDK

That's not remotely close to the 22 we were hoping for.

Damn. The rest of my post got cut off or I didn't post it properly.

As much as this isn't close to our best 22 I'm not altogether disappointed with the players available for selection.

We may finally have some quality depth after all this year.

I'd say McDonald would be a fair chance to be our sub given he can cover any injuries to our key forwards, backs and even ruck. Stocker can only play mid or small defender.

Both Casboult and McKay playing when coming back from injuries too.
McDonald got absolutely rolled in the ruck, he's not being named for that. He's being named because the alternative is Parks.

Gibbons in to play mostly forward pocket, I guess. Will probably drop out of the side to accommodate Betts in round 2.

Putting it in context, if we assume Betts is available after a full game in the ressies, Martin gets himself right, and Williams walks back in after suspension, then the R2 side is probably:

Willo, Jones, Plow
Saad, Weiters, Doc
Setters, Cripps, Murph
Pitt, Walsh, Williams,
Martin, McKay, Fog
Betts, Casboult, Fisher
I/C: Newnes, Dow, Curnow, SPS
Sub: Silvagni
Jack will stay in, with Newnes or Fogarty a better chance to drop out of the team. Betts may not make it back then either, still only has 2 VFL quarters to his name at this point.

Gibbons rotating forward pocket and defensive forward is fine by me, let's just not have him be the release option on the wing, which is what Richmond will structure for if we let them.

What's the difference in giving players a full game against the Saints?
Every available and signed player that featured in the Saints game is playing, except McDonald and Cuningham. The second they swapped Cuningham and Fogarty around, both lit the game up.

If the ball spills in the F50, Cuningham outpoints Gibbons. If the pass is sent out to the wing, Cuningham outpoints Gibbons. You talk all the time about leading David to the ball via a tagging role, you can also lead him to the ball by sending him out the back of the zone with it.

i am absolutely stocked with side and
and you do know not rushing players (Betts) back from injury and good players (Cunningham) missing out is actually a good thing
I just hope we come turn up to play and the coach has the set-ups, game plan on from the first bounce
Go Blues
I agree. 2-3 years ago we would play players that weren’t ready. It’s good to see gibbons Dow and O’Brien in the side. The pressure will be on with McGovern, Martin and Willians to come in. Everyone has to go.

It's a reasonable way to look at it.

We're missing Charlie, Williams, TDK, Martin, McGovern and Betts from what would probably be our preferred 22.

We're also missing Newman and Marchbank who I'd consider less assured of spots, but absolutely in the discussion.

And we're still fielding a side that I'd give a chance (if slim) of upsetting the reigning premiers, a similar chance against half a dozen other strong sides, and would genuinely back against the remaining 10 teams.

Gibbons is Williams 2.0. We need the mid forward that can play the role on ball. I’d argue Cuningham is not as good as gibbons in either position. He also proved himself in the VFL practise game.

When you think back to even last year when we had one out and we had to resort to playing Lang, we really have come a long way in the depth department.

I think it's just about the best available 22 though.

If everyone was fit, I'd be making around 5 changes: Charlie, TDK, Kemp, Williams, Martin.

Gibbons is a vastly smarter midfielder than Cuningham, but if Gibbons is being used on-ball for more than forward stoppages and the 2 centre bounces a quarter, we are absolutely ****ed.

The average AFL midfielder just completely bodies him out, and Richmond have like 13 of them in their team.
