Have had a theory, that when you have a larger number of players in that 23-27 age bracket (dependent on talent), you are ready to cement yourself into the top 8. We have 16 tonight, while the Tigers, with 9 players in that range, are trying to stay at the top (Geelong like) with most of their team in the 28+ bracket

Beyond tonight, I like where the list is at

I have become more and more pessimistic about this game as the week has gone on.. I think the Tigers are a very good side, likely top 4.. coming off a longer than normal pre season for them and they will be hungry to win... also Dusty wont like the look of Petracca taking away his title as best player in teh comp.. I have a feeling this might get ugly... Not sure if this is just my inner demons preparing me for low expectations so that I am not disappointed again.

It will be interesting to see if the two rucks work, but at least De Koning has some forward craft. What are Richmond thinking playing Nankervis & Soldo? Seems like it just gives Carlton a free spare defender.

Not a huge fan of Newman in the 22, but hopefully Saad and Williams do the majority of rebounding instead. The rest looks really good. Carn Baggers.

Sadly there will be no in-between emotions after tonight.
Either Bliss, ecstasy, better than sex jubilation OR deep deep sadness & misery.

Go blues. I've got a good feeling about tonight.
PS. Very happy with the line -up

No idea what will happen tonight but I never take much notice of a first game in a season. May as well flip a coin in many ways because its all new and unknown.

For the season I am optimistic. The list finally seems to be about right and the right players in the team with a few unlucky to miss out. I just want to see effort and some grinding defence that gets it to the wings or centre. Get that right and the rest will follow. It sounds simple but we have failed in that foot passing part of footy for so long its unbelievable.

Dow not even emergency.

Is he injured/have a niggle or completely on the outer?

Voss and Cripps have both mentioned that he's had a good pre-season. I think it's just he's been pushed out by the additions of Cerra and Hewett, and Kennedy's great form.

The named emergencies are more versatile, or tall (Young). Think you might be looking too much into that part of it.

understandable to feel a bit nervous about tonight. 8 years of dominance over us. However, history tells us that after winnnibg a few flags teams typically head south and sometimes quickly. If we allow them to bully us they may maintain an edge that way but if we press hard we should get the job done. Our in game mental state will play its part. Just got to have the belief.

I can’t believe Plow isn’t in the side. I assume he just isn’t 100% atm for whatever reason.

He was in 'conditioning' a few weeks ago, missed the first praccy, then into the 2s for the 2nd praccy. So assume that's it.

Also, we've only made 3 changes from the 22 that started against the Dees, and 2 of them were rested after getting minor injuries against the Saints.

Aside from flashes I think he remains a mile off it...

Poor match awareness, positioning, defensive application, disposal, no positional flexibility. Not quick fixes.

Voss is at least the right man make or break him. I'd commit him to a significant block of games in the VFL...it's a ground up re-build.
