Hope we win, people are a whisker snarky lately, just imagine how the autopsy thread would go off. A strong Vic club are the ideal 1st up opponents for us. No travelling, both teams rusty, everyone expects the Tigers to romp it in. Even most of our supporters think we'll lose. The only pressure on our boys is to keep their place in the team. GO BLUES.

Have to have the game night thread first. Go The Navy Blues . Grrrrr.

With half our forward line missing in a game where the season is going to be indefinitely postponed, I'm finding it hard to get excited. Yes I will watch, yes I will cheer us on. I will also wish for better times. Then I will front up for work the next day, Worry about my ageing parents that I cannot see due to being in health care in a high risk environment, isolate from neighbours due to birth of their first child yesterday, watch people lose their shit due to fear and uncertainty because of so many mixed messages, return home and hug my wife, well cos she works in as high risk as me and if we don't have each other we don't have shit. Battle on the next day and etc. This stuff is not a game, its a reality, self isolation is not an if but a when for us. Reality and life versus a game. Thats all I have to say.

Any joe blow can walk into a pub or down to the shops with 100s of other people but you cant play footy with 22 guys you are with everyday anyway?

AFL has minimised 99.99% of the risk by having no fans.

The world cannot stop completely. I understand the decision if they are all happy to play on.

Take care of each other Ratts..such a stressful time, I’m sending you a hug I hope that’s ok with Mrs blue Ratts

Crippa to be bog

Wieters and Liam to shut down their 2 forwards

Setters tears up one wing, Martin on the other is sublime

Levi to kick 5 and float back, will be a monster

Jacks 1% efforts will be huge

Murphy will kick a checkside goal to put is in front

20 seconds to go we are 4 points up they have the pill entering their 50 out of nowhere Plowman makes up 10 metres spoils a certain mark, follows up gathering the ball to boot it to safety.

Blues win.

I can't say I have ever been so disinterested at the start of a football season before. In the grand scheme of things, it's meaningless at the moment. I won't say that I won't watch the game, maybe I will but I feel no excitement about it at all.

There are too many other things that are critically important to me at this time, like my concern for family and friends who are vulnerable. To those of you who keep stating that this is just a FLU, after all, I really hope and pray that you and your families are not affected by this in the months to come.

Downplay it all you like but the threat is very real to a lot of people and their loved ones, display a little sensitivity in your posting. Try being supportive of those who are struggling with things rather than attempting to belittle them.

Forward line will be interesting when Levi goes into the ruck. We will be relying on the midfielders/rebounders to create some direct and efficient entries - if we get caught in their defensive set up and bomb it long we’ll struggle (and then get killed on the rebound).
*still think the AFL will call it off tomorrow.
Kreuzer will ruck 80% so it won’t be an issue. I think Richmond have more to worry about with nankervis getting spanked around the ground and soldo not being ready to compete against anybody.

Welcome back to footy season fellow BF Baggers. If 'footy season' it is

I'm not afraid to admit I'm torn about the season and if it should go ahead, or not go ahead, be foreshortened, be postponed, be modified to 16 minute quarters (is it then not a different game?). Like Scotty from Marketing, my position seems to change with each passing day, as different information and points of view come to be weighed.

As much as I would like to believe the medical authorities will be proved correct and the players are acceptably safe, and the AFL has not acted out of mere commercial interest, I have a nagging doubt. As much as I wish for the distraction and semblance of normality that the return of the footy season brings, (especially in Melbourne perhaps?) it also has some resonance with Nero fiddling while Rome burns. As much as I want my beloved Blues back on the park and the spectacle of the game on my TV screen, what will the atmosphere be like without the roar of the crowd which is so intrinsic to the flavour of the game? My fear is something like AFLX. Basically a glorified game of kick to kick.

Will it be worth the angst? I hope so.

Will history repeat itself and contrive a situation where Carlton finishes atop the ladder at the end of a foreshortened season only to have a premiership challenge match foist upon us where the (ex Fitzroy) Lions manage to finish last, yet win a pennant, a la 1916? (I'm only jesting here.. I think )

Like life under rapidly changing circumstances, there are many unknowns, and we all must make decisions with incomplete and imperfect knowledge to hand. I want to trust the correct decision has been made given the information to hand. In Gil we trust. (but not fully....)

Be well and healthy brothers and sisters, be kind to each other Baggers. (even to filth and * supporters) Rough seas ahead, a little courtesy and thoughtfulness will go a long way.

(and ffs stop panic buying!!!!)

There are always people doing it tough.

Should we just never have sport? Footy was played through 2 World Wars and the Spanish Flu.

It's not Armageddon. People need to get some perspective. And enjoy that there are still some good things in the world.
I’m doing it tough because of the total greed and over reaction of people hoarding food while people that can’t afford to buy 6 weeks worth of groceries and live day to day can’t even get bread, milk, eggs or sugar cause the greedy hoarders have panicked and left nothing for anyone else on the supermarket shelves. So screw them and bounce the ****in ball.

Someone will write a thesis on comparing the place of footy in society during the Great Depression compared to its place during the current pandemic. Maybe thylacine60 can help?

For me, it’s an escape from the daily grind of social distancing and continued bad news. Bring on the season.

Side missing a few from the Consensus best 22, but not looking too bad. Bit of run comes in which we need, Jack Martin I think is a plus, happy with SPS and Cunningham I the 22, and there are a few decent outs in Willo, LO’b, Harry, Charlie and Marchbank.

I think you are the one that has lost grip on reality, needing a game to justify your happiness and existence

Would you hold the same view if one of your immediate family members were more likely to contract the virus in a non essential environment, causing permanent injury or death?

Not panicking at all, I just have a realistic view of life's priorities
Just read several posts of you making similar comments - picking arguments left right and centre is hardly a greater display of priorities than those looking forward to seeing their team play.
