Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

The only player that should come under some consideration for demotion to the reserves is JR. Having said that I certainly would not oppose us going into the game against the Lions fielding an unchanged lineup.

Waite may come under some scrutiny from the MRP, but if sanity is to prevail, he will be fine.

Wait and see who puts their hand up for selection with a good performance in the reserves on the weekend. Duigs would have to be a chance depending on how his body pulls up.

The only change I'd be considering is JR out for Duigan but I'd probably give Duigs another week to get himself right, and give JR another shot to see if he improves.

No way would I even consider bringing Jamo back for this match. Not a chance in hell.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

If Mclean gets another 30 possessions, i'd swap him for Russell. If we were serious about reviving his career of course.

Playing duigan and jamison only when ready gives McCarthy and watson first hand experience of playing alongside their mentors.

Not looking good for watson this year, backs look pretty solid with a couple to come back in.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Brown is "fit" but under surgeon's orders cannot play until round 3.
Hi Brown Dog-nice to have you on board
Fevola playing? Would be an unbeatable fwd set up Brown and fev!

Opportunities always arise, be it due to injury, form or otherwise.

Watson most likely won't get the opportunity to cement his place in our best 22, but I'd be staggered if he didn't get games at senior level.

It's only round 1.

This time last year, who thought that Hendo would be shifted into the backline to such great effect?

Things can change, and things do change. Sometimes very quickly.

At some stage we'll need Watson to step up and perform on the big stage - be it for a week, a month or more.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Good point.

Just hope he doesn't do a grigg and chase an easy game elsewhere. (Grigg looked sh1t lastnight)

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

At this stage, i'd be happy if we took the same 22 to Brisbane. We don't have to rush Jamo and Duigan back. Let them have a full game with the Northern Blues tomorrow, and give them a large break before Collingwood in round 3.

Only change i'd make is to give Lucas a full game, and either JR or Tuohy as the sub.

The more I think of this the more I agree. Rusty gets another chance to show he is up to it. He wasnt terrible, just not as effective as others.

And if Duigs and Jamo play for the NB's this weekend and pull through it ok, then they get a long rest and play v Collingwood.

And the knowledge they are fit pre the Bris game keeps everyone on their toes to not be the one that is dropped for them.

All good.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

I'd probably keep the same 22 as well. JR is getting a bit of flak on here but he is a required player and was part of a backline that only conceded 12 goals. Everyone cant be like Scotland who is yet to have a bad game.

I like this too, no real changes.

If Waite does get suspended, will be interesting though - Sam Rowe might get a look in. But surely Waite'll be fine.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Pretty confident about this game. I was less confident about beating the tigers than the Lions. The Lions without Brown aren't really a threat IMO. We should win comfortably all things being equal. Hopefully we don't take them lightly. Been looking fwd to this game since our Nab loss to the Lions. They were pretty upbeat about their performance despite us having next to nobody playing.

I would like to see us block more for Judd and Murph. It was pretty evident they were doing most of the bullocking work last night. If we can take a bit of pressure off them inside they can cut opponents up on the outside.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

predicting an unchanged lineup for this match simply because its Brisbane without Brown. Russell really the only candidate for demotion, and Jamison likely to be the only inclusion - if any is required.

Be nice to be able to have Duigan, Walker and Jamison fit and firing for the Pies game. That would put us close to full strength IMO.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Who played on Merritt in that pre season match??

Imo i reckon we should make one change and bring in collins to be the sub and drop russell

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

My guess......

Out: Russell
In: Duigan

Sub: Touhy
Full game: Lucas

And move Gibbs to the middle because of Duigan's return. So we'd have bolstered the defence and midfield. Not bad. The great thing about Lucas is he can play midfield, HB or HF in an attacking or defensive role, and is excellent overhead. A huge asset. Gotta get game time into him early on.

:)

1/4 time in the Brisbane/Melbourne game, and can't see anything Brisbane is producing that would worry us next week. Merrett playing forward, got to a few contests but hasn't taken a mark yet.

No chnages unless something untoward happens on the track, or Waite gets rubbed out.

The one thing that will be discussed is who have we for the Burger when he goes forward. He is too big for Rivers.

Ha...didn;t they bang on about that one, LOL

They don;t look much chop v Melbourne, a confidence team, we should wipe em easy

I;d like a big win...no mercy

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

luenberger has looked good when forward.

Still not worried.

Can't wait, as i missed the nab game up here(thankfully). Big game for Jordan Russle I reckon, hope he can give the MC a headache or two.

In all seriousness, after watching him just plot along with no real effort against North Melbourne, although it was only a practice game, I don't think he'll even be in contention for a spot in the team this year

Wouldn't be against trialing him up forward in the 2's.

They will be confident after demolishing a demons unit who had so much to play for and against them on their home turf we have a fair task. Berger, Black destroying and I have a gutt feeling that Voss is foxing and Brown will play.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Agree with most here that we should go in unchanged. .. for a few reasons. ..
  • Any replacements would have to cut their return game short to recover in a 5 day turn around
  • Flights are usually avoided when players are recovering from injury (esp. with a 5 day turn around)
  • Will allow Jammo and Duigs to blow out the cobwebs in two full games of VFL before a look at a return against the Woods
  • Rusty and possibly Tuohy would be considered for omission but neither was bad enough to warrant getting the chop so soon
  • Lucas deserves a full game and can play the Duigan role if required and also dangerous on a wing Tuohy/Rusty to go sub
  • Allowing our young defenders like Watson, Bootsma and McCarthy to get extended game time along side Jammo and Duigan appears invaluable to me
  • We don't need to rush either back

Looking forward to seeing if Lucas can take the positive of the last quarter into a full game this week. .. Hoping Rusty, Army, Bowser and Tuohy continue to improve. ..

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

are brisbane any good or are melbourne just that bad?

either way we will win next week. but we may be in for a bit of a fight

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Does Carrots get Black or just Adcock?

I think we are in for a game. They looked up and about today, absorbed the emotion and then ran over them.

Mcgrath may get looked at for sling tackle as well.
