Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

That's not at all why it happened. It happened because he sold Curnow into trouble and needed to make amends.

As I alluded to, I mark him harder because his game elsewhere around the ground is so polished. But I fear some of those lapses in concentration will see the better sides really capitalise.

Hopefully Duigan comes in and pushes him up the ground.

Yes he made an error and tried to fix his mess by going hard to atone, unfortunately collided with said Carlton player, not the first, and curtainly won't be the last to do so, my main point was I thought Bryce was more than serviceable all night and all over the ground, ultimately I'm sure the majority want Bryce playing in the middle or across half forward, and I'm fairly confident that's what we'll see sooner rather than later once jamo and duigs are back ;)

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Jamo played the full match out today, Duigan was rested for the last part I believe. Tells me Jamo is a lot closer to coming back of the two. 5 day turn around might be the only thing stopping that, but then Ellard and anyone else coming out of the twos will have the same problem. I still predict an unchanged lineup.

Just a thought. Would there be a chance that Duigan was rested for the last part under instruction from the Blues as they knew they want to take him up to Brisbane and dont want the 5 day turn around to be too hard for him?

Reports from the VFL game said he didn't play very well, so I doubt it.

Yeah possibly, after laidler getting up for the Richmond game, I'd believe just about anything atm regarding injuries

Its also the responsibilty of curnow not to call for the ball when under pressure. However curnow had time to dispose of the ball but took on the tackler and got caught out. Gibbs follow up work was great and the hit on hendo showed his hardess at the contest.

I gave gibbs best as i thought he was one of the best 4 qtr contributors, played his role well, cool under pressure and used the ball really well.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

That's duritz, last time I checked he was in the upper echelon of flogs on the bay :)

They're playing a very very small forward line. With Hammer and Waite firing they'd have to play Sauce Merrit down back.

I really don't know much about their list though and there could be another tall back that can play on three talls. Fairly sure McKeever is a high 190+ size though.

As mentioned above, their small forward line should mean that we keep Russell in but maybe Army will get a role to play down back more and Jamo will come in for Russell.

Weird match ups for this one..

FB: Tuohy, Jamison(Merret), Laidler
HB: Yarran(Banfield), Henderson, Armfield(Rockliff)
C: Lucas, Scotland, Simpson
HF: Gibbs, Waite(McKeever), Garlett
FF: Thornton, Hampson(Maguire), Betts
Foll: Kreuzer, Judd, Murphy

IC: Carrazzo, Curnow, Robinson, Bower (s)

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

I don't think there's any real necessity for changes in the team. The only change I could see happening is Russell coming out for somebody, but I hope he's given another shot (could have just been an off night for him last week). However, I do think that Waite could very well be suspended tomorrow so I would say:

IN: Collins
OUT: Waite (susp.)

SUB: Collins

I am confident that we will beat the Lions, but I wouldn't underestimate them at all. I rate them far ahead of GWS, GCS, Melbourne, Richmond and Port (not that they are 'elite' teams to be ahead of). Don't think they'll make finals this year, but will give it a right old crack in the following few. Having said all that, Blues by 43 points.

Anything is possible, but hopefully it comes to a great game on Thursday. Let's see how good we really are, when faced with a genuine top 4 contender. :thumbsu:

Who do you guys think will take Rockliff? Kicked 3 goals 5 behinds against Melbourne and if he gets the same amount of opportunities against the Blues, don't expect him to have the same sort of day in front of goal. He should turn that ratio into 5 goals 3 behinds or 6 goals 2 behinds. His kicking was off against the Dee's, usually a great kick for goal. So who will match up on him? Cheers and good luck on Thursday night, lets hope for a good game of footy.

Who knows? He may just kick 8 straight.

I'd say Tuohy may get the gig.

There is a good chance Waite won't get suspended.

He should be fine but wouldn't be surprised.

Lucky for Carlton that the Freo v Geelong game provided greater context to what is intentional and what is not.

Tuohy for sure, super quick and very strong, penetrating kick and good decision maker ;)

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Rockliff will need to spend most of his time in the middle if the Lions are gonna get the ball anywhere near their forward 50.

Thats exactly what i was thinking. i dont think the lions midfield will be able to deliver the silver service against a top line midfield as opposed to the dees mids who laid down under pressure. Rockcliff will be too busy in the midfield trying to get the ball as opposed to waiting for it in the fwd line.

My question was more an if Rockliff plays forward who will line up on him. I have confidence that our midfield will be able to compete with Rockliff in the forward line however.

I disagree. Massive Rockliff fan and I rate him as one of your best. Brisbane's on the improve but they are coming up against one of the best midfield units in the competition. The top end is far better than Melbourne's and the quality runs much deeper. Brisbane won't have the luxury of playing Rockliff up forward for any extended period of time.

If he does play forward, I'm not sure that Tuohy is the best match up. Tuohy's been impressive but Rockliff is a very smart footballer, as he showed yesterday. I'd consider playing Laidler on him depending on the height Brisbane have up forward.

Yeah I think it is safe to say that Rocky will play midfield and rest forward. Black, Redden and Adcock is a good midfield however.
