It's tricky but that's what seems to be the case.

Let's not get too wound up about what presents early on, but for what presents at the end of the season.

If we're still relying on players that may not be part of '21, then we have issues.
Let's be honest, if he plays well and we get a win no-one will give a shit about his selection. Hell, if he plays shit and we get a win I won't care.

If I had to choose between the 4 emergencies, Lang would honestly be my last choice. I just don’t think he does enough to warrant a spot.
But as others have said on here, the MC obviously have a role in mind and believe he is the best man for the job. I truly hope he comes out and performs a few team lifting acts to justify his chance. Doesn’t need 30 touches or 5 goals, just to make his presence felt and really capitalise on his opportunities. Small forward/HFF can be a thankless role if you don’t make the most of the chances you do get.
I was keen when he came over to us, as I’d seen some real promise in his limited game time at the Cats. Getting into that midfield was near impossible, so I thought with increased opportunity he’d lift and solidify his spot in an admittedly bottom 6 team. He hasn’t so far, but good luck to him.

Bolton played too young and Teague gone too far the other way it seems. Still gotta give the kids a go. I'm presuming he wants to get a few wins to ease pressure and before blooding kids and hoping experienced bodies gets it down.

Excellent point. Can’t say I blame Teague for wanting to capitalise on a real chance to get a win on the board, rather than giving a first year player a game potentially a touch too early.
Still not sure I would have gone with Lang in this case - if it’s senior experience and a direct swap for JSOS they wanted, surely that’s Kennedy.

Wonder if the Dee's young side was a factor in Lang's selection.

Or maybe he's just been training extremely well and deserves it.

But yeah maybe the age thing...

In any case, I hope he gets 20 touches and kicks an important goal.

I will say that Lang has actually looked to be moving very well from the limited training footage that's been out there...

I know he's had a lot of injury problems so maybe those are behind him, and he's able to offer up a far more dynamic, athletic style of game (which he'd obviously want to given what he's shown so far).

His lack of physicality is the main problem for mine, given his level of experience and development he simply cannot afford to be bumped off the ball or let his tackles slip.

Does have a good eye for goal so might be able to make the most of any limited opportunities that do come his way.

Here's hoping he can get it together.

Lang's inclusion as an experienced whipping boy will shield Newnes in case we lose. I think this is good move by the club as we all love Williamson too much and all blame would fall on Newnes who was poor in the whipping boy role at St Kilda.

Good analysis. Kennedy has also done well in the whipping boy role at times, but there's the risk he might pick this week to kick four goals and then it's all back on Newnes again.

Not a poor decision at all. By all accounts, has had a reasonable preseason and has now been given the opportunity to show us how much he wants it.
The ball is totally in his court. These are the guys that need to step up and take their opportunity THIS YEAR!
Yep let’s hope he can put his injury woes behind him and show us something, if not we have an easy decision come the end of the year, may as well find out now.

I suspect that the thinking is that the more experienced heads will cope better after the covid break, which is what most fitness bosses have said and I’m guessing Russell agrees, expect the younger guys to feed back in over the next few rounds.

The Dees and Burgess obviously don’t agree though so let’s see which side comes through the game better, my moneys on our man Russell and the mighty Blues, Burgess tends to think to highly of himself. Imo

Really seems to me that experience/age comes up trumps for now.

Let's not knock the selection, until we've at least seen the results of the action.

The result of the action must be a win.
No excuses accepted.
The club have made a statement with the selections and these blokes must perform.
Personally, very disappointed.
Have backed the full rebuild 100% and along with all Blues supporters, have endured a tough 5 seasons.
This was the year the investment was to begin to pay off ...

yet you are liking posts suggesting his selection is the wrong decision, soap?

I was excited when we got Lang initially, thought he could play a bit.

I’ve not see anything to confirm this since and am a bit bemused by his selection, hopefully it’s a sign that he’s ready to step up because it has to be his last chance you’d think...

I will put my trust in the MC. Lang has obviously been impressing lately on the track. We did look a tad tall and slow, so his inclusion should help. Go well lad, kick 3 or 4 and prove the knockers wrong.

Yes …. yes … put your trust in the MetalCrusher :)
