I would love to have an actual current Australian act, but the major problem with that is that bar Triple J, no mainstream radio seems to actually give a shit, so most people just don't know enough current Australian artists unless they're into that specific genre (I'm looking at you, Parkway Drive fans).

Twenty years ago, when I was a teenager, bands like Powderfinger, Silverchair and The Cat Empire were nationally recognisable because they got significant radio play across the whole dial. Our music now is just as good, but arguably with the exception of Tame Impala and The Kid Laroi, they don't get anything like the reach they should.

He’s an entertainer used to large venues, the whole crowd has actually heard some of the songs before and as far as I’m aware his voice hasn’t gone to s***.

I mean, as far as acts go he is a good get for sure. An international act with a fan base across the globe, and he's had a heap of well known hits over the years. Probably the criticism is that he isn't as "current" as he was in his prime.

To be fair though, they could do nothing at the halftime break and it would not change my experience at all. I'm still going to be eating/drinking/chatting about the game/taking a shit at halftime anyway regardless of who they have on.

I agree. You’re not going to get the Weeknd, Kendrick or Lil Nas X along to the event, it’ll always be someone whose prime was a while ago.

Have never once watched the halftime show so couldn't care less who performs but did hear it is going to cost 4-5 million dollars to get that over-the-hill tubby little Brit to sing.

Just imagine what could have been done with all that dough.

Some of the current chart toppers would draw blank stares anyway. Plenty of corporates in their 40s/50s who were young when he was huge. Good fit, for better or worse.
