Robert Harvey: Most overrated player ever?

Robert Harvey Retires............. I miss the reason why everyone is bagging the shit out of him, if he retired last year with the Hird, Buckley, Roo and Archer retirement it wouldnt be as much attention to Harvey but he's leaving in a year that Grant, Basset, Everitt, McManus (not bagging these players) of course Harvey is gonna stand out.

Exactly which just proves how selfish Robert Harvey was. It was always about him and standing out. Should have retired last year but he didnt want to... he wanted all of the limelight to himself.

The greatest player I have seen in the flesh is either Cam Mooney or Bill Brownless.

I believe back in the days of Polly Farmer and Newman, it was a different time. Goals were not nearly as important as the players were out there for prestige, to showcase their skills to the public. Hence, how they played the game is what mattered, not the result at the end of the day. so clearly I don't take into account how many goals they scored when rating them.

However, when the game unified in 91 and became the AFL, winning started to become more imporant due to commercialism and the need for sponsorship. In Harveys era to today, winning is more important than ever. And how do you win? By kicking goals.

To anyone who understands AFL and its history, it's perfectly clear that Mackie, Stokes and Lonergan are far superior to a lackluster Harvey. Grow a brain.

Might want to check your figures there genius..... wrong decade.

You're completely incorrect by the way. I am not going to bother typing too much (hangover) because others have already shown you how wrong you are, but I did feel it necessary to agree with them: you're an idiot.

He was just behind Voss and Black and possibly Aker. Criminally underrated. Lappin's career at Brisbane >>> any player's career at Eagles period. You must think there are no legends at Eagles! :thumbsu:

This thread is utterly disgraceful and should be deleted.
I cannot believe the number of moronic posters on here and the tripe that has been written about one of the greats of the games. They obviously have NO IDEA about the impact that Harvs has had on the game.

:thumbsu: to the people who support other clubs and at least have the sense to acknowledge a great player when they have seen one play.

Ill start off by saying harvey has done more in the AFL than anyone one on bigfooty put together.

Secondly this is the most Discraseful thread i have everseen on big footy and The OP and subsequent posts are nothing short of Disturbing.

Robert Harvey is one of the most overrated players in AFL history. While many will have you believe he is up there with Buckley, Voss, Hird and Carey as legends of the the last 15 years, what games has Robert Harvey ever won off his own boot? While he is a class act off the field, his on-field performances have always been mediocre at best. He is as slow as a Holden Barina in reverse, cant kick for goal and can barely even bend down to get the footy when its on the ground. If it wasnt for Shane Woewodin and Adam Goodes he would be one of the least deserving brownlow medallists ever. While the St Kilda like to think he's one of the greats of the game, the truth is he is just another average St Kilda club player like Stewart Loewe and Nathan Bourke and will be forgotten before the first bounce in 2009.

This is a prime example why 4 year olds with serious mental problems still in nappeis should not be able to post on bigfooty, firetruck u scum bag.

Solidly average player. Had the odd good year, but nothing more. Saying Harvey is the best player to come out of the Saints just shows how poor of a club they really are. Personally I put the likes of Mackie, Lonergan and Stokes well above him.

How, what personal accheivements do those 3 have over one of the alltime ledgends of the game?

Robert Harvey has played 379 games for 215 goals. That's 0.56 goals a game.

Lonergan has played 18 games for 32 goals (1.7 goals a game), Stokes has played 46 games for 70 goals (1.5 goals a game), Mackie averages about 0.8 goals a game.

What is the objective of AFL? Scoring goals. These players are currently far better, on average than Harvey. Harvey is a decent player, but on the whole a mediocre contributor.

Using that Logic scarlett must be one of the worst players in the AFL, pwned d!ckhead.

Mark McGough is a better player.

He stood up and won the next biggest match to the GF. I have never seen Harvey win a big match. Seen him lose quite a few though!

How easily people forget how good he was during his 6 in a row AA form. you either have memory problems or are only about 12 years old, in either case you are in no position to comment on big game performers

Enjoy retirement old hack Harvey, you didnt deserve those brownlows and you certainly didnt deserve a premiership.

prime reson why people in the phsyciatric ward in jail should not have access to the internet,

So going by your logic, all defenders are crap because they dont kick as many goals

Pity the closest thing West Coast has to a legend is Rowan Jones.

Longevity, and the perception that he's a 'good bloke' is all that rates him. Take away BS and he's only won one maggots award, has never dragged his team with him in finals. If bagging Bartel about his dad is true he's not even a good bloke.
How is Craig Bradley regarded in 2008? Harvey for mine is about 3 levels below.

Lucky for us all then that my left testicle has more weight than your opinion.

Rowan Jones - Premiership player
Robert Harvey - Never a premiership anything

Correction. Rowan Jones - passenger.

R Harvey - champion of the game. If you can't admit that you have more problems than I thought.

Under your theory Rod Carter would be the worst VFL/AFL player of all time. 250-odd games & 1 goal.

Tom Harley scored his first goal of the season on Friday night, does that make him an unworthy All-Australian.

You are being very selective in your use of stats

You're mediocre at life.

So by your theory Gary ABlett, Tony Lockett and Buckey are not legends as they never won a premiership? Your as dumb as the OP. Whats going on here ? You guys don't really barrack for Carlton right?

And if you want to go further back Bob Skilton, Kevin Murray and Robbie Flower never won a flag, doesn't change the fact that they are among the truly great players of our game

8 times all australian 3 times ej whitten medalist between the period of 91-02 one of the best going around came back from a knee reco and still perform at an elite level and play in finals footy is a credit to the man himself and i hope this year draft we draft a player has overrated has him people forget about the early banger well done :thumbsu:
