Are people more disappointed Weiterig didn't get in (over Moore) because he was in the squad of 40?

Would personally have had Stephen May in the final 22. Does anyone have the 1 - on - 1 stats for these three guys (Moore, Weitering, May)?
I'm looking for the stats graph 1-on-1 contest (X) vs 1-on-1 contests won (Y) : I recall Jonas actually being on top in both.

How the fu** do you expect his output to be any better than minimal when he had 2 knee recos and 10+ knee operations in that time

Imagine how ******* good he would be if he didn't cop all those injuries?

At least now we can put to bed people trying to compare Gawn and Grundy, there is no comparison as it stands

Well when assessing the whole career, that missed time will discount his overall body of work, like it would any other player.

If by the same age Grundy has the same number of AA's, and a greater sustained body of work, what then?

did anyone notice the boy band singing danger danger dangerous chorus!!!!!!after the captains speech :oops: i suppuse the logic being captain is his involvement leading players assiocation also giving him credits for getting a season going with all the changes and dealings this year..as well as 8 all aussie starts
Joke of an award to be honest. Has been for awhile. Dangerfield captain over Boak makes no sense on any metric you are using
If you close your eyes and imagine a world where every country plays Aussie Rules and that in 2 months there is a World Cup tournament, then it's no real stretch of the imagination that Patrick Dangerfield would be the captain of the Australian team.

Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, David Beckham all captained their national teams at World Cups despite not captaining their own club and despite the presence of other club captains within the ranks of their national team squads.

The people who think AA captaincy must only be awarded to one of the club captains are fools. It's an honourary title which should always go to the most senior, decorated player who commands the most respect from the other players. The bloke you'd actually want to lead the team out onto the ground if they were playing an international match.

Still waiting for those knock ons to cost you a big game....your guys are so good at it,but....still waiting
i dont think they ever will. we are normally on top when we start doing the knock ons, because it means our system is working. when we lose its generally when our system breaks down and we wont be in a position to do them.

It seems the AA side is like Mike Sheahan or Robbo's top 50 players - put players in the wrong order/spots to encourage discussion and clickbait.

The AA side shouldnt be like this.
Making it position specific in terms of selection would eliminate the 'lets get Danger in up forward' type w@nk, then again the highest individual honour in the game is decided by umpires (lol) who only vote for midfielders.. praps we get what we deserve.

Guys this isn't about bashing Bont, Danger, Martin, Guthrie and Macrae.

It's about giving the best Wing, FP and HF players recognition for there seasons.

We know the reason they get picked, look at the AA article on the AFL website, its headline and first part is all about Danger making his 8th AA team and joining other legends............clickbait

Every year there is melts about the team - especially with guys ‘out of position’ - but it has been the case for nearly 30 years of existence now.

Go cast your eye over some of those old teams - they have always ‘made it work’ to fit in the ‘best’ players.

* Many forward pockets over the years have been well known midfielders - same goes for both the back and forward flanks.

* Many teams, especially in the 90s, had far too many tall forwards named, as they were in vogue at the time - 1994 had 5!

* Matthew Pavlich (an absolute champion obviously), was once awarded the coveted full back spot...despite not actually playing that role.

I think time blurs the line somewhat as to the role these guys actually played so the ‘outrage’ fades....until the next season....

If he can get a coupe more AA's and win a big award like AFLCA player of the year we can start discussing who is the better of the two again

Half fowards and mids are the same thing. Plus both have spent a lot of time up foward this year. Danger just won us a top four position playing as a foward.

One game! 14 goals shouldn’t get you a forward line position. Pick him in the middle.

Imagine a forward line without no small forwards... instead replaced by midfielders...

A disgrace.

Papley and Butler should feel robbed.
Why should Papley feel robbed? He kicked just 7 goals over the last 9 games. You don't make the All Australian team for playing brilliantly in the first 8 games and going missing in the second half of the season. Most unbiased Swans fans, if they were honest with themselves, would agree that he was the frontrunner for AA small forward at the halfway point, but his form fell away. He'll get his chances in the coming years. This year, the selectors decided Liam Ryan was only AA worthy small forward.

I don't understand why everyone thinks the AA forward line should only be for 198cm, 100kg monsters or the 175cm nippy crumbers (or gun midfielders). What about the in-betweeners? What about the skinny Hawthorn forward who finished equal 3rd on the Coleman Medal table?

Apart from Jack Gunston, I don't see the name of any other forward from one of the bottom four teams among the AFL's top 20 goal kickers

Gunston was one of the most consistent forwards in the AFL this season. One of the few Hawthorn players who stood up to be counted. If anyone should feel robbed, it's him. Four times now he has kicked enough goals in a season to warrant AA squad selection, but has been left out of the 22 due to the presence of midfielders at HF, or because of the "3 talls plus 3 smalls" selection policy

Can someone explain the criteria for picking Captain, because clearly I don't understand. If you want the best player of the year, pick Neale since he's the glaringly obvious choice.

If you want a legitimate captaincy pick, Bont came runner up in the AFLPA Best Captain award, so how on earth is Dangerfield picked here?
Its basically given to an elder statesmen figure like Hurn or now as he approaches 30, danger.

Neale has had a brilliant year but still doesnt have that standing in the game yet that comes with age.
