Roos call for calm after loss

Somehow I reckon if Ross Lyon was coaching, one or two big names would be dropped this week. Remember the game when he dropped Nicky Dal (IIRC) and a few others when St Kilda was having trouble adapting to his game plan? Finals and GFs followed.

I am amazed at how lightly Brad Scott has got out of this. There is no question that North has the players to be a good team, yet consistently fails to deliver. The game plan is exceptionally brittle and has been for 3 years - with no discernible change from the coach. I do not believe that Brad Scott is the man who can take North to the next level. He has shown a complete inability to learn and adapt. I believe he has a month and a half to show that he has learnt from last year's failure. If, by the end of Round 8, we only have 2 or 3 wins, then even blind Freddy will be able to see that he is just not up to it.

problem is he has another 2 years bc mr brayshaw thought it was a brilliant idea to sign him last year on another contract extension

While the heat certainly needs to be put on Scott, and deservedly so, I think you may have needed to watch a little closer in relation to the bold. We are a distinctly different team in they way we approach the game than we were three years ago.

On Friday's performance I'd like to drop at least half the team, but clearly cutting off our nose to spite our face isn't going to help us win this week but a strong statement needs to be made.

I think Basti (I'm a huge Basti fan) and McMahon both need to go this week.

If Taz and Daw were fit I'd put Petrie at the top of those to be dropped but I doubt that will happen this week.

I could easily add Ziebell, Wells and Atley to those three but then there is the dilemma of who to bring in.

I do agree - however, I did not notice any difference on Friday between this year and last year - and we didn't make the finals last year!

I noticed some differences. Other than the fact we totally sucked that is.

I though we transitioned better when we turned it over in our forward half. That's it.

That's all I could take from that game. Christ it was shite.

First person I'd bring in is Levi and the only reason he should get displaced from the 22 is when someone else shows more guts and determination than he does, he's got his limitations but you can never question his endeavour.

And considering that endeavour is what was missing from most then he should be rewarded for that alone. Get him in North.

But, we are staring down the barrel of another year with only 4 wins in the first half of the season! And this has been an ongoing problem under Scott. If he can't resolve that problem with 5 tries at it, he is never going to. And that is why I think that his future should be decided by the end of round 8. We cannot accept another season where we fail to fire for half the year.

I don't think we will sack him during the season, but if we are out of it by round 8 then I can see him going at the end of the year, and rightfully so. Another year of learning the game plan in the first 12 weeks is not where we should be at. He and the FD have everything they need at their disposal and are for the first time capable of paying up to the cap. What more do they need?

you really think so? Who is going to pay out his contract for another 2 years?

Levi needs to come in - has had an interrupted pre season and was forced to play VFL to gain match fitness - was best performed in the Werribee - North Ballarat game and noone in the AFL side has built up any credits this season through performance and friday night cannot be put down as an abberation. Scott needs to toughen up and so do the players - glaring examples all over the league of tough selection decisions if Sydney can leave out O'Keefe then we can leave out McMahon, Wright, McKenzie, Bastinac. Look at the way Hinkley dealt with Polec.
Cunnington, Bastinac and the rest of our experienced players have had their 'development' time and been gifted games over the years. The time to be held accountable for performance is now if we want to get serious about being a top club. Gifting more games to 'educate' and 'gain experience' is not the answer and massive cracks will be papered over with front running wins. Our side desperately needs a hard edge and these prima donnas in our side need to win their spot on merit from here on in and not on potential, hype or the # draft pick they were!!!

Never have I noticed the volume of pointing that I sore on Friday night, I actually recall commenting on it quite loudly to ensure some of the players heard it, it went something along the lines of "STOP F%^&ING POINT AT THE F%^&ING BLOKE AND F$%^ING MAN HIM UP YOURSELF!"

I absolutely agree with this.

Everyone was pointing everywhere. We may have lost the possession count but we won the pointing count by a mile!

Either 21 players didn't know where they were supposed to be at any given time, or 1 player was consistently insisting 21 others should do what he was supposed to do.

It's a good point - they should never have extended his contract in the first place. I agree with stability in a coach - but St Kilda stuck with Grant Thomas when it was apparent that he wasn't up to it, and look where that got them!

yeah in the end it will be the supporters.
Or a select few supporters which is most likely.

Or they may be a performance clause in the contract that if we fail to make finals in 2014 then we can terminate without financial compensation. Dunno.

Can we ask the AFL like Melbourne did? lol..... I hope he has performance clauses.

It's hopefully not a topic we need to broach. As much as it's hard to see a way out of this fuzz I'll pretend it can't get worse.

But... if it for some reason went that way I'll stick to what I've said several times and that is that I don't think Brad will hold the club to ransom. He seems a bloke of high integrity and if by July it really looked like he'd irreparably lost the group I think he would offer his resignation.

Again, as much as it's tempting to see no other option because of how bad Friday's effort was I am not predicting we'll get to that point.

I get that vibe too KC.

hmm i actually dont think any coach will walk away from a contract, its a competitive world and he will think he can turn it around. He could get the push though and resign so it looks better. In Walsh we trust.

I actually agree with Brown. We need to drop someone that played like they didn't give a damn on Friday.
Wells and/or Bastinac would be who I'd drop first. It'll definitely send a message through the team.

I can't picture a Leigh Matthews putting up with a disgraceful performance like on Friday and not putting the axe on one of the under-performing stars...especially since theres so many to choose from.
I know this is going to sound like sacrilege but is Ziebell undroppable.

If we're also dropping Basti, Wright, McMahon etc it's very hard to drop Jack as well as we still have a game to win this week.

He's certainly droppable and if another half dozen players hadn't been equally as deplorable on Friday night he should be dropped this week. He's used all the credits in his bank. Same applies to Drew.
