It wasn't just the training block, it was the bad luck of losing Hill before the game, and then Sewell in the first 5 minutes. Even without the training block, losing those 2 players would have been dangerous.

Several times during the last quarter, I saw players puffing and blowing with their hands on their knees. I think they were spent, but we never gave up.

We'll be there in September.
It won't be easy, but we will not be knocked out for lack of effort.

Yep. It seems that our players need a rest every second week..?? What is this. Is it even Football anymore?? Imagine this happening 10+ years ago. Bloody hell. All we ask as supporters is that we get their full attention for just 120mins/week. Thats it. Is that too much to ask for? Obviously it is.

I cant believe how much momentum this Petrie v Lake incident has gotten. I actually like Petrie. Whenever I see him in media, comes across as a good guy. I think he was also played the whole incident well. Just fine both of them, and move on.

This whole incident has really taken away from actually how well North played, and how poorly we played. North will trouble who ever they end up playing in the finals, whilst loosing to a couple of bottom 6 teams along the way.

You mean like StKilda? And Richmond? Hell you can throw Freo in that mix.

There are 17 other clubs below us on the ladder mate. Yeah we had a setback on Friday but our team can still win the premiership, make no mistake about it.

Not every team can be switched on for 120 minutes. If you are that hellbent on us winning every week, watch an intraclub game during pre-season. We never lose which should keep you happy.

Yep good one. Im not saying we have to win every game. But tell me this, was what you saw on Fri night acceptable to you??? Happy to lose, if the side was just better on the night, but what we dished up was very un Hawthorn like.

And the whole 120 min thing, isnt that what these blokes get paid for?? Im confused.

North were better on the night. And some of the things we did were very un Hawthorn like. No arguments there.

But it's the exception to the rule right? For the last 3 seasons, for every 5 games we win we have 1 loss. Those are incredible numbers.

When you go to work do you perform at an optimum level all the time? It's utopia that doesn't exist, particularly in a brutal game like AFL.

It amazes me with the media constantly.
Now North beats us after one of our bad performances for a quite sometime and now we're out of form - and that's after last week patting us on back for doing so well through injuries and losing Clarko for a while.
You have to laugh about it.

Your correct. I'll accept that. As for me at work, I reckon I can put in a pretty good 120mins a week when it counts. But your points are valid.

The game was lost by a 15 minute patch of unproffessional, undisciplined, selfish, stupid football. We gave away dumb free kicks and didnt stand up when it counted. Lake simply has to be dropped this week, along with Suckling and Hale. You dont get gifted games at Hawthorn, you earn them
In our defense the umps didn't miss a free they got them all and their 50's were huge compared to ours that was about 20m. Compare that to the first half where I reckon if the umps called the frees we might have had 50 to half time.

Just watching the replay (only for the purposes of working out my Yabby Medal votes, no desire to watch that match again) and can't believe how many of our guys went of with the blood rule and/or appear to have scratches to their faces. What the hell was going on out there?

I read this in another thread - what sort of confirmation do we have?

One of the really surprising things for me was I didn't thing North were that good. Time after time they handballed to their teammates feet, and time after time they had an eternity to mop up because there were no Hawks in sight. The Hawks simply did not work hard enough. It was killing me in the end, North collect ball, North handball, ball hits the ground, North collect it again, repeat until North goal

I would blame the Gold Coast game the previous weekend in heavy rain for that before the training block. Teams frequently struggle to back up the weekend after playing in bog.

6 day break as well. Hill out. Mitchell first game back. Sewell gone in 2 minutes. = not a great night.

It won't be easy, but we will not be knocked out for lack of effort.

In the last quarter, Gunston was trying to give chase to a few Roos players on the wing. He was running up and down on the spot, so spent was he after the effort he'd given during the game.

Hawthorn needed to put the score on the board early and then apply the brakes to the Roos' running style, but Sewell's injury early in the game meant that Hawthorn didn't have the capacity to tighten up around the stoppages and after that, it was not going to be.

Hawthorn went inside 50 a couple of times in the first few minutes of the game..but to no avail..we missed targets and we bombed it alot...North were playing possessed football and everything went right for them....inclusing our injuries....and we just kept turning it over and over...and everytime we did...they scored because of it...We lacked composure in the first quarter...it cost us..

Sorry if this has already been raised in here, but why was Sam investigated for his dumb little knee on Thompson (and thankfully it was thrown out), but nothing has been said, or investigated about Thomas' gutless knee in the first quarter. Channel 7 didn't even show a replay of it.
