So we can rule out Jetta, Dennis-Lane, Reid and Rohan as being the targets of Roos's criticism. Reading between the lines, it seems the coaches want the reserves to carry out the instructions without any backchat or offering any excuses why they can't do so. Gordon yesterday by Roos and now Reid by Maxfield have been hailed as model reserves with their ability to carry out any and all tasks asked of them.

Yeah OK! New Identity?

Let's change the team colours to the light blue of NSW. Let's get rid of that ancient theme song & use the one to the tune of "Up there Cazaly" only the words are a little different. Remember that disaster? When they wanted us to forget their history. That meant no Bobby Skilton on their B & F boards. You know.......start afresh!

That's obviously not what I was talking about.

I know mate!;)

But we need to all back the system that has worked & thus far in season 2010 has us sitting in 8th position with a team that has been missing such players as C. Bolton, Bradshaw, Seaby, LRT, Smith, Bird, our back up in Playfair, etc.....etc.................!!
Not a lot has gone our way but the most important thing that shouldn't break down is the team ethos. That is what will get things back on track quicker then anything!!
Cheers!!

Roos has said he is referring to young guys, that that were on the verge of senior selection when we got pumped by Melbourne who he would like in the team. The Emergencies were Rohan, Reid & TDL Its clear its not TDL or Reid, i guess it could be rohan but its weird that he was even and emergency because he had previously been injured. so maybe the guys he's frustrated with wern't even on the emergency list for the melbourne game.

The reserves happened to have a by that week so its difficult to tell who didnt work hard and follow instruction. We would have to guess that some of the guys didnt work hard enough on the training track.

The next week the bests were

Sumner, Currie, Johnston, Gordon, Veszpremi, McNeil

So from my powers of deduction, sherlock holmes style I would have to guess Roos is referring to

Vez - should be in the team, oodles of talent but maybe wrong attitude and not working hard enough

Johnston - should be pushing harder for a debut

Barlow - didnt seem close to senior selection but have just gone missing this year

MOD - Ditto barlow should be much closer to senior selection

Currie - Maybe he's just not doing what the coaches want him to, in order to force pyke out of the team

I was questioning why some where getting games over others,Roos has spoken now I know, happy with what he said

^^ this article sheds a bit more light on the whole thing... it's as if the swans heard the chorus of swans supporters begging for kids to be played and put out these articles to explain why it hasn't happened...

it's a good follow-up article from the club to reinforce the message. The players have it entirely in their own power to be selected.

If any fan is pissed off that player X isn't getting a game they should aim their bile not at Roos but at player X. The message should be "Hey you with the talent. Stop wasting your life in the reserves. Either seize the chance to play seniors or leave. Don't take the spot of some other young player who may want it more than you."

Any that leave may get picked up by another team but if they do they'll be expected to work even harder to prove themselves and it'll be their last chance.

Based on what I’ve read in those 2 articles and what I’ve witnessed over the course of the season…I think a lot of it has to do with consistency and timing…just looking at the reserves bests list…when players have had 2 or 3 weeks where they had really good games and made the bests list, and a spot opened up in the seniors…they got their chance…

Reid was one player who put in consistently good performances, but had others in front of him so couldn’t really crack the seniors…so I think he’s been a little unlucky…but if he continues his form, he will eventually get his break and will get a chance to really prove himself…

Players like bevan/richards etc didn’t really have standout games in the reserves but they’ve played senior footy before and roos knows how they play, he knows they’ll come in and play a role…so they’ve always been given precedence over untried players (who aren’t playing good consistent footy)

I think the frustration comes from the fact that Roos has been forced to play guys like Bevan & Richards because the reserves haven’t proven that they’ll be able to come in and play the role that these mature players can…I’m generalizing here, but the reserves players have been able to put in a few really good performances here and there…but they haven’t been able to put in good performances 3, 4 games in a row…and anyone that has been able to do that have been given a go in the seniors

As a coach, Paul Roos, with the amount of experience he has, playing, coaching, developing players etc…He has a good idea as to what attributes (in a young player) will lead to that player becoming a good player/elite….he would’ve seen enough success stories and enough failures to know (or at least have a really educated guess) as to what mould of player he’s looking for… to compare posters on BF to Paul Roos is just ridiculous….apart from us only knowing what we see in the media and what we assume….and the fact that none of us have anywhere near the experience Roos has….I mean, you put those two factors alone and he’d blow any of us out of the water…on top of that, Roos has the respect of his peers and the entire football world…for any of us to disrespect Roos is just idiotic, it’s like trynna tell Federer his backhand is all wrong…

But at the end of the day, this is a discussion board…question Roos decisions at the selection table, make suggestions, play coach and pick your team…

but don’t disrespect the man… with the amount he’s done for the swans, and the amount of experience he has… noone here is in a position to disrespect him without looking foolish

Very good post as always bungee. This is absolutely correct and is consistant with what I have said previously.

The players are or should be fully aware of what they need to do to be in contention for a senior spot. Hopefully this is the kick up the pants a few of them needed.

As for the list from Hyphenator I agree with all except Johnston. I think they are making sure he has a clean season and then a very good pre-season for a look in 2011. I think Reid is probably a very good chance of playing quite a few games in 2011 too, as will Rohan and Jetta.

The future looks good.

We're not actually a part of the team. We don't all "need to back the system" if we don't agree with specific issues. That's why we're on here.

Vive la difference.

I can't stand people who blindly parrot the "company line". Are you the propaganda officer?

I'm amazed at some of the knee-wobbling rubbish here - "the Bloods culture is gone" or "give the kids a run".

We are at the tail end of a hugely successful run - and have lost vastly talented and experienced premiership players in the last year or two - barry hall, mickey O, jolly, leo barry, crouch, fosdike even Schneider and Buchanan. We are transitioning some real youth for the first time - and have had massive injury toll. Yet, instead of running last and making excuses, we are still top 8 - with a good chance of finals, which will be great for the kids.

How about the fans here show some "Bloods" culture? Stop whining and second-guessing our premiership-winning coach - back the boys up - and take in the reality of where the club is going.

My thougths exactly... And I completely agree. Why bag out one of the best coaches (if not the best coach) Sth Melb/Sydney has had as opposed to tearing into the players who aren't performing?? I don't get it... It's the players not performing not the coaches. Heck, we're sitting in the 8 with the kind of team generally expected to be easily in the bottom half of the ladder. As supporters I'd expect to see a bit more support. ;)

Okay, i will bag the players. McVeigh, Shaw and Mattner have been shit for weeks and ROK is injured, but everyone says McVeigh is injured so leave him in the side as he's too good for Canberra. Shaw kicked goals a couple of weeks ago, but against who and Mattner is just Mattner.

Well we're pretty much at opposite ends of the spectrum then mate because I actually can't stand people that jump up & down like little children as soon as they are not getting things the way THEY want.

These days people want things just handed to them on a platter just because they think they're ready.

Are you one of those in life that does the bear minimum & gets carried along by others hard work?

Which 3 players would you like to see replace McVeigh, Shaw & Mattner Bedford?

Yeah how dare Roos play McVeigh, Moore, O'Keefe, Mattner today as they are getting totally outplayed and proving to be useless:D

I haven't read past page 1, but when I first read Roos' comments I felt a certain amount of relief. For months many on here have been wondering out loud why certain players haven't been getting a chance in the seniors, and now we know why. Obviously Roos has been telling these guys over and over what they expect of them, and has heard all the excuses as well.

It seems to me that after a number of private rockets have been fired up the cavities of certain young players they still haven't got the message, so Roos has made it public, so we all know. I don't have a problem with that in the slightest.

You are so far wrong on your rather personal assessment of me ... so offensively heckin'g wrong ... and I was going to say it's almost reassuring in that it validates my thoughts on your judgment of football.

Then I realised I don't actually think your judgment's any more flawed than, say, mine, or the Belgian Waffle's, for that matter.

I just can't cop the heckin'g sactimony and pomposity that your and his posts usually reek of.

I'm now very keen to find out if you're posting in the election thread. That'll be a hoot.

But listen here buddy!

You started the "personal assessment of me" stuff..............but how dare someone actually reply to you in a similar manner.

I don't know you from a bar of soap, but just the same, don't you dare try to label me in a certain manner, just because you don't agree with something I post on a forum.

Not agreeing is fine...................aggressively discussing the topic is fine.....................labelling me as perhaps one of the "people who blindly parrot the "company line" is fine too.

But getting all sour because I made you drink from the same medicine bottle you asked me to drink from, just wreeks of arrogance!

...and you ask for objectivity!

I labelled you that because that's what you did. You posted as a "comapny man".

You made a comment about the kind of person you THINK I am. Your comment was inane, and it's just as ridiculous I'm bothered by it, but there was a distinct difference.

That's okay though, we can agree to disagree, as they say in the classics. I'll do what I do, and you can continue with your witless sludge.
