Is Ross still the man for the job?

I don't think we're tanking raffrox, I don't even have strong views on Lyon either way. I do know that the insults flow freely in both directions.

As far as the threads concerned, it's bordering on ridiculous. Over two years of soap opera with the same people posting the same stuff over and over. I'm not sure what doing that on BF achieves. The one positive is that, on the whole, it's kept this s**t out of the other threads.

I know you're not one of those who have been after RTB's head for years. Most of those people would hold the same viewpoint even if we'd gone 2-2 in our last four games. I'm wary of those posters as their history shows it's become personal for them - eventually they'll be right.

Fair enough. This thread is moving into next level ridiculous territory though. There's a fair amount of frustration in my last post because a tanking conversation is unrelated to Ross in my opinion.

The reason why is firstly it is highly unlikely given that Ross is fighting for his job and secondly If under his watch we are considering a tank then he should be gone tomorrow.

To me it's a massive diversion and isn't related to the crapola we have been serving up in the last month.

You're sounding like a journalist looking for a headline. I told you I wasn't happy with the midfield stoppage tactics.
That’s fine, neither am I. You introduced this theory about us tanking whilst still in the eight due to injuries. I didn’t come up with that.

All I’m saying is if your theory turns out to be true, the club come out and confirm it, will you be ok with the course of action or not ok with the course of action. It shouldn’t be hard to say yes I’m ok with tanking in the eight or no I’m not ok with tanking in the eight.

If that were the case, I wouldn’t be ok with it, for example.

I don't like it.

But it's also disingenuous to say we were in the eight like we were all set for finals. It's like being on the straight heading to the finish line of the race and your engine has just exploded, it doesn't matter that you're in first place - you won't get to the line in first place.

We needed at least another six wins to scrape into 7th or 8th. We needed to win same number of games as the first half of the year when we had Lobb, Pearce, (we still had Hogan) and Taberner while Fyfe, Walters, Matera and Brad Hill were having best ever years. I think it would be reasonable for the club to aim to win them but also to not expect as good a return missing such key players in key roles.

So am I happy with it? No. Would I understand the club trying out new things in the second half of the season and the result of that being we get beaten and end up at 5th last rather than 9th, yeah I'd understand.

If Cerra really is that bad at this early stage in his career then he should be doing his developing in the WAFL. Perhaps playing midfield at Peel would be better for him than playing on a HBF in the AFL.

I find it interesting that Crowden was given midfield time when he played up a few weeks ago. But somehow Cerra's still not ready.

And based on last week's game Hawthorn's Worpel has zoomed right past Cerra in terms of midfield development

Whatever we are doing with Cerra doesn't look too convincing right now.

Worpel is a ripper. He showed signs of being an Elite inside contested midfielder very early in his career ... Brayshaw and Cerra have not.

I'm not sure how good or what use we will get out of Brayshaw or Cerra, but neither of them are anywhere near the likes of Neale or Fyfe in terms of being quality inside midfielders. I've been seeing all the warning signs of this, but have been biting my tounge.

Crowden is a better contested ball winner than Brayshaw or Cerra. That is why he was given a game.

Is anyone being allowed to vote in the "Ïs Ross still the man for the job" poll?

I'd like to know how many Freo posters voted "yes" and "no" compared to votes cast by other club supporters please.

Just answer the question Tayl0r.

Just **** right off, El_dickrider.

And, PurpleEyes, Brayshaw is a bloody beauty. He's bottom age, you know. This should be his first year. Relying on him and Cerra to be our midfield saviours is silly talk.

Cerra's case of the second-year blues is a little more pronounced than Slayshaw's (I actually think Slayshaw's palpable efforts to lift are inspirational), but wouldn't doubt his skills with ball in hand. He's class.

He should be playing forward, but he's class.

(In fact, Cerra and Slayshaw should just swap the roles given to them by the current coaching staff. Slayshaw is a defensive mid. Cerra is a finishing mid. That's what they should be doing. What did old mate Lachie Neale pointedly say recently? "At Brisbane, we practice what we're good at"?)

I created the poll. Unfortunately I can't differentiate from opposition supporter and troll to genuine Freo supporter.

That's the best way of brining the best out of any club

How much of the performance is related to player availability?
This is why our problems run deeper than just Ross. It's recruiting, list management, S&C and player development.

I've lost faith in Lyon and want him gone, but I'm not naive enough to think that things will drastically change if we replace only him without sorting out the other problems. But I envision a new coach, with new assistants and a new S&C team (with an AFL rather than a rugby background) giving is a fresh start in a new direction. A direction with a functioning forward line and an upward trajectory.

Would that forward line work better with a mature key tall in it? One who isn't a ruckman? We haven't had that for weeks. We haven't won in that period either.
