Good way to build club culture, sack a coach who’s built our list, formed bonds with the players and would’ve had us playing finals this year if it weren’t for serious injuries.

Did Saturday night look like a coherent, tightly knit group. It was a real low point in my Dockers supporting and how the club performed at all levels was completely disappointing. For it to be on Sandi and Ballas farewell game and Son Son's 150th was completely damning of our team current culture and cohesiveness.

I didn't think Ballantyne was selected on merit to be honest and nor did i think that Lyon if he was going to be going around next year would have picked him. Maybe he had been advised well before today.

Unless we get someone else who can make a bottom 5 list compete for a top 8 spot I don’t think we will be going up

Harsh, look at the Suns/Carlton/Saints losses and you'll see the scope for improvement is there. Not forgetting we were a chance for the 8 (theoretically) only 2 weeks ago. I don't think the list is in terrible shape provided we're adequately compensated for Ed/Brad. Not great, but definitely mid-range potential

Exactly this.

If the board has a verbal agreement with someone, plus a list of assistants they want and changes to other staff, I don't mind this happening now.

If it's an impromptu sacking without a plan, we're f’ed. Very minor chance we end up in a better position this time next year.
I'd say Freo wanted to get in first before Essendon and Port sack their coaches. Surprised though. Don't you have to keep paying him until end of 2021 unless he gets another gig somewhere? I think you needed a change of direction, good luck on the search for a new coach. Would you look at someone like Scott?

List isn’t bad at all.
If you write out a best 22 without Hills or Langdon it’s not bad.
Throw in possibly 2 1st rounders plus Henry and we’re on the way again.

Nope

I'm not surprised but I am also surprised they pulled the trigger now instead of after the season.

Please for the love of Pavlich, don't get Sumich or Woosha. The day Sumich is our senior coach is the day I stop watching footy.

Anyone who has sat through 8 years of Ross Lyon footy can watch anything at all.
Give Sumich a chance on short term deal bring some West Australain kids in from the u18s get back to being Fremantle with kids who want to play for the club and live in WA we had become a Ross Lyon franchise.

Big mistake.

It's a thing called injuries that derailed the season.

The greatest mind in the game couldn't coach the team that's out there at the moment to finals.

Ross is still one of the best coaches in the game.

This will most likely consign the club to four years of hopeless misery, where as with Taberner, Hogan, Lobb, Pearce, et al, back in the team next year finals would have been a very good chance provided B. Hill and Langdon were retained.

Were a top 8 team when not many expected the club to be earlier in the year with good cattle.

Just a massively over-reactionary decision and the club will likely pay for many years for this.

Weber next & please do not speak to Scott.
Longmuir, Ratten & Richardson would be a good grouping, but 2 of them def want senior roles.
Wonder how this plays out with Hill, Langdon & even Kelly? Bhill had a very heated discussion with Ross at 3/4 time with arms flaying everywhere, Ross walked away & Bhill followed.

Clarko said last night they have someone from their footy department leaving to be announced in the next 7-10 days.

Wonder if there is any link, perhaps the club just moved swifter than Clarko expected. Doubt Freo tell them when any potential announcement would be made

It's very oddly timed for sure. Possibly because they foresaw a few more sackings in the off-season as you say.

Scott? No way.

Nah that was one of their back room guys going to Carlton

Thanks Ross for your time at the club, he brought with him a much needed professional attitude and changed the culture of the club for the better over a few years.

The club made the right decision today, I hope everyone backs in the new coach and gives them time to fix the mess that we are currently in, onward and upward!
