Just watch the Grand Finals to see how soft Budda was. First sign of injury and pain he would go off to the bench.

You are as dumb as doggy sh1t Rohan.

Hocking played his last season with no cartiledge in his knee. Bone on bone, and played on the ball. Forget the broken finger.

Hocking was dirty, and I loved him. Hard as nails. Didn't really fit in at Geelong because of this though.

Some mean mothers in that lot, MarkT. Jack Dyer by all accounts could be added to the list. Dermie and Dipper formed a pretty rugged tag team (especially with Gary Ayres as their backup). Ronnie Andrews was a mean bastard (the only guy that put the willies into Lethal) and Gary Ablett wasn't afraid of throwing his weight around.
A good trio from the Hawks there. A bit of carnage caused by that lot.

Ronnie Andrews had his bluff called by Kevin Worthington. Wortho wasn't dirty but he was as tough as they come and when he grabbed Andrews by the colar, Andrews back stepped like Michael Jackson. Andrews was more of a sniper for mine.

Worsfold was a dog of a person too. When McGuane dropped that ball he said your mate Darren isn't here to protect you.

Millane, Dermie, Andrews, Ayres, "Butch" Edwards (saw him break a GFC player's nose after the final siren), Rhys-Jones, Diesel, Ditterich and Magro.
Carey and Ablett were rough b/c of superior strength and intimidating just standing there.

With all these thugs you could easily make a thugs of the century team.

But who would play against them...would be entertaining.

Someone mentioned McGhie (sp) I recently bought the 74 GF on dvd and he seemed to play allright. Looked like a thug though..i wonder if any footballers would look like that apart from danny southern.

Yep he was an nutcase! Ive seen the footage, he was scarey! Those days you wouldnt dare get between him and the ball. These days you wouldnt get between him and a big mac!

I think Balme has served at Maccas on mchappy day - I saw him there once the week before he was sacked as melbourne coach.

Just wish I'd given him the line 'don't give up your day job'

Has anyone seen that footage where Mal Brown is playing for East Perth against Carlton? He belts one guy and puts him to the ground, a heap of Carlton players come rushing in, he swings around and drops one of them as well. Meanwhile the first guy is about to get up and Brown flinches at him and the guy decides to stay on the ground, then he belts another a guy who walks off spitting his teeth out. He had three guys onto him and he cleanly connected with each of them to put them away. Best fight I have ever seen in any sport (apart from combat sports such as boxing). Even then it measured up.

Yes a very infamous incident.

The Carlton chap who started it, got more than he bargained for. I think I actually saw Doull back off (very rare).

Toughest - Bob Chitty. Cut his finger off at work Saturday morning played that afternoon.

What he said - apparently loved the biffo as well. Any player from that era immediately nominates him as the dirtiest thug they have played against, no arguments like we are having about modern era players.

He probably got away with a lot more back in those days too.

No. 8 that comes out spitting his teeth was Trevor Keogh.
