Worsfold wasn't in Millane's class. Watch the Daicos goal in 1990 and the lead up. Worsfold tried to give it all to Pants but he was sent packing over towards the ground.

Budda Hocking was as soft as they come.

How old was Worsfold at the time?

Worsfold of 93-96 would be easily the equal of Millane. Maybe more so.

From Essendon...

Roger Merret
Rotten Ronnie
Billy Duckworth

I remember in the early eighties there was a big expose on 'the hitman' of the VFL, and they wouldn't release his name for weeks.
Everyone just assumed it was Andrews, but were gobsmacked when it was shown that Merret was tougher and meaner (and sniped more! :D ) than anyone else in the league at that time.

He may have sniped a few in his time, but I can't remember ever seeing him take a backward step from ANYONE.

And then he went to the bad news bears....
:(

He would have been 25 at the end of the 1993 season. At the peak of his career, as most are from the age of 24-29
Thankyou Macca! Finally someone talking sense!!

Don't bother Macca, death transformed millane's ability in the memory of collingwood supporters into something far greater than it ever was in reality.

You are a prized fool. Millane was the toughest player I ever saw; my grandfather whose seen a lot more football than you said that Millane was the toughest player since Albert Colier. Quite possibly the toughest player in the toughest era of football.

Thank you linesmen, thank you ball boys.

Who?

I didn't realise that dying young automatically entitles you to legend status. I may have to look into it. I think 27 is the age of choice: Cobain, Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison etc

I can't wait.

Worsfold was a dog of a person too. When McGuane dropped that ball he said your mate Darren isn't here to protect you.

What he actually said was "Even your dead mate would have held that mark"

I agree a dog of a person.

You find all clubs have their opposition villans. At Collingwood we have Barrassi from the 50's & 60's, Jim O'Dea from the 70's, Ryce-Jones (in a decade without standouts) from the 80's and Worsfold from the 90's. It's all been said as to why. Worsfold is justifiably hated at Collingwood.

Still looking for nominations for this decade.

I have heard Dermie speaking of a game against Worsfold that took place just after Ray Jencke's father died. Not sure exactly what was said but Brereton made it very clear that Worsfold had been pretty low in his trash talking towards Jencke.

Mihochek - Played for essendon in the late 70's - an absolute nut - got a life ban from soccer and took up footy - didn't play much.

Come to think of it that other looney essendon ex fitzroy guy in the 80's - was it Wheildon? man that was a looney - he picked a fight with me in the crowd one day at the lake oval during a army rerserve cup match (yes i had no life in the 80's - don't even follow essendon). The coach at the time (Robert Shaw)dragged him for coming over to the boundary to argue with me but he would not go and tried to deck the runner !!!

Maybe not as tough as some but an absolute psycho

Neil Balme is easily the roughest player I have ever seen. He seemed to have no regard for his own safety let alone that of other players.
Sam Newman tells a story of when they were playing against each other. I can't recall how it goes but it ends up with Sam Newman asking Balme to kill him because he'd done everything else to him. Something like that anyway. :)

Pity he didn't take him up on the offer.

Who do you think is the roughest all time player in the AFL?
I've got to say Danny Southern. He looks scary and he is mighty rough. *cough*deanwallis*cough*

Southern wasn't rough. His tribunal record was minimal. He was the 3rd roughest in the Dogs backline behind Kretiuk and Ellis

And Rohan if u honestly think Buddha was soft u are even more stupid than I thought

And I agree that Millane's ability has been over-rated in death
