Roughy Should Never Have Been Appointed Captain

Your post was fine until this piece of absolute tripe on the end..

I only liked his post because of that sentence ;), thought it was a ripper. The rest, whilst not entirely wrong is delivered incorrectly.

Ruff has every right to be taking his time to adjust to footy this year, what he has been through shouldn't be questioned nor should his form.

As far as captaincy goes, Hodgey probably should still be in that role but for me it's not here nor there.

Whoever the limo noodle is that has the buzz kill going through the side on game day will get sorted out soon enough & the cohesion will return & the big Rannga will romp home as Captain in the second half of the season.
I like Rough as Captain but in hindsight Hodges last game should have been as Captain... I was concerned going into the season on Hodge, & still am a bit, but there is no doubt that he as Captain could not have prevented the start to this year. Best to pull the trigger 1 year early than a year late

If not Roughy, then who?
Would it have been better to retain Hodge for another year, then pass to Hodge, or is it better to let him take over the responsibility while Hodge is still there to mentor? Difficult questions, and I would suggest that the decision wasn't made without first going over all possibilities.

Maybe Rough's form has little to do with the captaincy, and is more about missing a year of footy.
Cousins.

Obviously.

Undefeated as spiritual leader of HFC.

I hate this thread. So negative.

Put a smile on your face, folks. Life is much more enjoyable with a grin above your chin.

OP - excellent, bold work. It's acceptable to speak your mind in a civilised society.

I do think you're being a little premature in judging Roughead's captaincy, though.

Herein lies in the issue - it's too premature for this boldness which has nothing to do with speaking your mind and the freedom to do so. It's more to do with being daft

It was time for Hodge to step aside and for someone else to takeover while he was still playing.

Not really sure there was another option with Lewis leaving.
i feel there is a fair bit of truth in this

Jarryd Roughead is an inspirational person. He should be celebrated for what he is and what he has achieved so far.

The club is going through a phase in its illustrious history that is nothing compared to what Roughead has already been through and conquered.

He was born for such a time as this.

Following a sporting club and its personalities is meant to bring you joy and enrich your life.

We are Hawthorn supporters. So let us support, and not waste our moments in criticism of individuals who have done great things for our club and have brought us sporting joy that other club supporters can only dream of.

We are a club that has survived near extinction and have turned things around in grand style. As a person who has survived near death, Jarryd knows better than any other the finer points of making a comeback.

There is no one better suited to holding this team together at this time as we rebuild and look with a hope of brighter things to come.

Possibly a bit immature but i can assure the OP he's thoughts are not alone. But its probably too harsh to single out roughy, he isn't the reason we're getting flogged by 70+ points but it would be nice for some of the older players (even those who have played 80+ games to show some leadership at some moments and wrangle the game. This doesnt mean turning it on its head and trying to necessarily get in front but moreso assist structures and the like to prevent a losing margin getting to the blow out stage again and again. FWIW roughy does look a bit down on form but ill give him another few weeks at the very least before i start getting critical.

This is a highly emotive and sensitive issue but lets play nice here and argue against the OP's statements than take pot shots at the individual.

Dumb thread. Dumb premise. Dumb conclusion.

Hodge chose to step down. Someone had to step up.

If not the vice captain, who? And what would our win loss be with the other guy?

I wish I had as much free time as SwampCreature. I wouldnt spend it trolling BF, but it would be nice to have the time.
That's just rubbish. The moment he blew in the bag he lost the captaincy!
