Autopsy Round 1, 2017: Ess v Haw, **Ess supporters read the OP** Ban Hammer will be wielded with impunity

0.7 from Vickery Omeara and Mitchell hopefully will never happen again.

We missed some absolute sitters last night in front of goal, we also fumbled, fell over, dropped chest marks, butchered kicks that bottom sides would make
It was hot and bloody humid, obviously both teams were playing in the same conditions but the drug cheats were motivated.

Players dont forget how to football in an off season so I think the fumbles/drops/clangers can be put down to an off night.

I hate you, I hate your nation, I hate your people.......and I f*** your sons and daughters because they're pigs.
You're a pig...........you're all pigs.

When I think of essenjection this great speech from midnight express sprung to mind. Very apt imo.

We have a script at BigFooty that turns campaigner into campaigner whenever it's posted...

We need one that turns "supplements" into "performance enhancing drugs"
Also "Returning Players" into "Convicted Drug Cheats"

We missed some absolute sitters last night in front of goal, we also fumbled, fell over, dropped chest marks, butchered kicks that bottom sides would make, looked slow lacked hunger for the contest and generally looked as tho we were not ready for the start of the season.

Our pride should be really pricked after that performance and I hope we come out and play some decent footy against the crows.
Gee - that's a woeful return from those players. I'll forgive Tom who was brilliant otherwise

In the scheme of things, who cares? We had arguably sam's and lewis' career best years last year, and were shown to be a ways off it.

We needed to reinvigorate the team, and it will mean a few more losses this year, with massive payoff in years to come if you ask me.

What? What the hell do you mean "who cares?" We lost to essendrug, anything that would've changed that was worth doing. I mean I know the points don't count because it's essendrug, and the result is largely ignored in n historical context, like round 2 2015, but still, having them win anything is a travesty.

Thank you for continually fighting the good fight on this one gg. My wife, who bless her comes to the footy despite not loving it, was saying 'they're so happy, good for them' as we were leaving. I didn't want to rant at her because that would make me a dick - but it shows the outsider perspective that's so bloody wrong. Any other drug cheat in this country would be shunned and ostracised. These drug cheats are worshipped and celebrated. This isn't 'good for the game' - it's a ****ing disgrace.

6 from 37 with 26 contested isn't that terrible though, especially when it's your debut for a new team in round one after you played in a grand final

He will only get better, is now under Clarko's coaching and hasn't hit his prime years. It's so pleasing to have him on board. Tom Mitchell > 2016 draft pick. Jaeger O'Meara > 2017 draft pick.

Jordan Lewis 3rd best player for Melb yesterday. Sam Mitchell currently leading the stats for Weagles. Tell me again what we got in return for those two players? Tell me it was more than f'all.

tom mitchell i think he got a lazy 37touches he 24yo...
yes jager was ordinary we all hope he can show some speed and dash out of the contest give him time his potential limitless.
plus we have enough money in the cap to sign another fre agent end of this yr..

this year it can not be judge this trade from next yr it willl be a win for the club hopefully

The Mitchell, O'Meara and Langford trio will work really well throughout the year. They finished top three in disposals, contested possessions and clearances.

Considering this was the first time they played together did very well in the midfield and we matched Essendon in the contested possessions count and beat them in the clearances.

Mitchell: 37 disposals (16 contested) - 4 clearances
Langford: 29 disposals (14 contested) - 7 clearances
O'Meara: 23 disposals (14 contested) - 8 clearances

The only thing that arguably let all of them down was disposal efficiency. Imagine if they all had 70% +

Mitchell and Lewis WERE NOT moved on to bring in Mitchell and O'Meara. It has been stated too many times now that we could have fit them all in.

Cap space to attack free agency this year to help us continue our rebuild.

Mitchell obviously played alright but I must say I don't love his disposal, especially by foot. 6 clangers (most of any hawk) and 67% dis eff. He is a gritty player so dis eff is going to be lower, but penetrating/precise kicking isn't his strong suit. Still like him though

6 clangers but three of those clangers were Free kicks against. So in reality he's had 3 clangers from 37 touches. He's going ok

My observations:

1. Sitting behind the goals at the Punt Road end, the Scum fans were pretty noisy - I hate the bastards but their support was massively loud. I'm sure it had an effect on the players.

2. I saw an uncoordinated Hawthorn midfield. Many times we got the ball but didn't use it well. Tom Mitch was great and O'Meara was good, but the understanding wasn't there and a lot of attacks broke down. Give them a few weeks, we'll have one of the best midfields in the comp.

3. The forward line malfunctioned, and they got the ball away too easily. Roughie was rusty, Cyril was injured and Poppy didn't play his usual pressure game. I can't see this happening again.

4. Those criticising the defenders have got it wrong. They were under huge pressure from loose runners downfield. From my vantage point behind the goals, you could see outnumbered defenders trying desperately to cover space and opponents.

5. The game reminded me of 2015 Round 2 against the Scum, when we also had players pressured into errors all day.

We are in a marathon not a sprint.
They are all writing us off now, but Hawthorn teams don't give up.

The problem is - they were creating the pressure. They were constantly out of position and then didn't have the leg speed to get back. There were also numerous times where two defenders would run to a player (zero communication) which would then just create a spare man for * to go to. They were also constantly outmatched in one on one contests. The defenders warranted as much criticism as our midfield and our forwards - all lines were a bit dysfunctional.

I had that barney with several peeps on friday night, the returning heroes propaganda drives me up the freaking wall.
And no one can give me an answer on why they viewing essendon differently from any other drug cheat
ARGH

"All teams in the afl routinely use supplements as a way trying to get an advantage, however, essendon were caught and punished for the use of performance enhancing drugs.

In the future all AFL teams will be really careful how they select and administer supplements."

No, not sure that works.
Why are you here being smug? You realise you have your own board where you can celebrate, instead of being a smug wally here?

A smart-arse comment will get you a card, so either stop posting like a smug wally, or stop posting here at all..

I wasn't attempting to be smug, sorry if that came across that way. Will slink back to the sidelines.

90% of supplements are actually 'Legal!' its just that your club tried to win a premiership by using 'Illegal' drugs/supplements. there is no other story here, your club cheated .
