Love the optimism of the blues fans preseason, cute.

R1 is a big occasion for Blues fans, its their grand final. The season ends on Thursday night of R1 as they spend the next 6 months afterewards preparing for the draft.

Predictions:
Carlton vs Richmond - Tigers
Collingwood vs Geelong - Pies
Melbourne vs Port Adelaide - Dees
Adelaide vs Hawthorn - Crows
Bulldogs vs Sydney - Swans
Brisbane vs West Coast
GWS vs Essendon - GWS
Fremantle vs North - North

Bold predictions:
St.Kilda vs Gold Coast - GCS
Rankine pips Walsh to Rd.1 Rising Star nom
7 forwards kick 5+ goals
Brisbane vs west coast no tip?

Love how you include Scully in your outs, think you might be able to use that one for a while.

Scully is likely to be back Round 3 or 4. You’re probably one of the posters who said O’Meara will be lucky to play 5 games in 2018 and we know how that prediction turned out dummy. :D

Predictions:
Carlton vs Richmond - Richmond
Collingwood vs Geelong - Geelong
Melbourne vs Port Adelaide - Port (I just think Melbourne still haven't shaken off their past and will do a melbourny thing)
Adelaide vs Hawthorn - Crows... just. Considering we have only won 1 game against the Hawks since 2011 I am a bit nervous.
Bulldogs vs Sydney - Swans
Brisbane vs West Coast
GWS vs Essendon - GWS
Fremantle vs North - Freo

Carlton vs Richmond Thursday 21st MCG -

Carlton to put the fear of God into the Tigs and run them to the last ten minutes, some Dusty brilliance gets them home, we learn that carlton's high end midfield and forward talent is coming quick and the Tigs have peaked. Tigs by 13 points.

Collingwood vs Geelong Friday 22nd MCG -

Collingwood to give Geelong a savage beating, Beams to torch it up, Geelong's decline is set in stone. Collingwood by 77 points.

Saturday March 23

Melbourne vs Port Adelaide MCG

Will be qa fast flowing entertaining game, Port young blokes showing a lot, but Dees too strong in the end. Dees by 29 points.

Adelaide vs Hawthorn Adelaide Oval

Booooring! Who cares? Not me said Barry the cat. Anyway, Adelaide will grind out a win in an uneventful affair. Sicily might whack someone. Crows by 32 points

Bulldogs vs Sydney Marvel -

Will be a ripper, Dogs will be better than many expect this year, especially on their home deck. Sydney going their version of a rebuild means they may miss the finals for one year, but they have some young class who will show what they've got. Dogs snatch a win in dying seconds. Dogs by four points.

Brisbane vs West Coast GABBA

Premiership hangover! West Coast will get caught napping by motivated, well coached and classy Brissy outfit, Brissy by 18 points.

Sunday March 24

St.Kilda vs Gold Coast Marvel

St Kilda will bring the intensity required to get over the Goldy. Intensity alone won't cover the talent and structural gaps they have, but at home should get them home. One caveat - if two metre Peter can get going and kick a bag, GC could snatch it - Saints by 28 points.

GWS vs Essendon Showground

The two most hyped for fewest results teams go head to head for the Dylan Shield Shield. GWS have drafted well with Caldwell and Hately, and the likes of Taranto and Coniglio are more than able to cover the loss of Shiel. Forgotten man Brett Deledio kicks five goals that prove the difference. GWS by 26 points.

Fremantle vs North Optus

North unveil a new run and gun gameplan based around classy onballers delivering quickly to the forward line and kicking goals themselves. With attention focused on Higgins and Hall, Paul Ahern runs riot with 32 touches and three goals. Freo's new big forwards show promising signs, but will take time to gel. - North by 36 points.

Carlton vs Richmond Thursday 21st MCG
Richmond to get the ball rolling early as per usual. Carlton kids will show glimpses of the future but Richmond will win comfortably

Collingwood vs Geelong Friday 22nd MCG
Two teams going in different directions. Collingwood are trying to establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with while Geelong are trying to hang onto the hope of success. Should be a good game but I see Collingwood being able to win this one.

Saturday March 23

Melbourne vs Port Adelaide MCG
Melbourne to kick a cricket score here and be top after round 1. Port will be terrible this year and my tip is they will win the spoon.

Adelaide vs Hawthorn Adelaide Oval
Always cracking games between these two sides, lots of personnel for both teams probably not going to play, crows will have more to lose in this one than hawthorn regarding the result so I expect a crows win.

Bulldogs vs Sydney Marvel
More interesting game than what it may look on paper. Sydney are on the downward slide and the dogs haven’t done a lot since the GF win. I think the dogs will be back on the up again and can beat the swans here.

Brisbane vs West Coast GABBA
The most interesting thing about this game will be predicting what the weather will be like. Otherwise WC win easy.

Sunday March 24

St.Kilda vs Gold Coast Marvel
Battle of two teams that are tipped by a lot of people to be bottom 4. While I also think that’s the case, I reckon GC will surprise a few this year, starting with the Saints.

GWS vs Essendon Showground
After round 1 we will probably look at this as the match of the team. Two teams in a real similar position fighting it out early. I’m expecting a finals like standard type of game with the bombers to just get there.

Fremantle vs North Optus
Another 50/50 game here IMO. It will be interesting to see how both teams new recruits go. I’m going to tip freo here as I think hogan will give them some real good structure.

Carlton vs Richmond: Close game all night, Richmond inaccurate in front of goal, Tigers by 11 points - T.Lynch doesnt play, Cripps & Walsh put on BOG performances.

Collingwood vs Geelong: Game of the Round, Cats to compete hard most of the first half both teams changing leads throughout. Collingwood jump them in the 3rd and go into the last break 4 goals up, goal for goal last quarter but Collingwood kick a few late to win by 30 points

Melbourne vs Port Adelaide: Melbourne after a slow start get on a roll after qtr time and win quite easily by 7 goals

Adelaide vs Hawthorn: Adelaide blow the Hawks away early to win quite comfortably 6 goals

Bulldogs vs Sydney: First low scoring game of the round (both teams under 80 points) as both teams not able to take their chances, Dogs stay with the Swans and finally break the game open in the last to win by 2 goals

Brisbane vs West Coast: Brisbane come out firing early and get a jump on the premiers, West Coast claw their way back in the second and then get a few goals up halfway in the 3rd before Brisbane finish the 3rd quarter kicking the last 4 goals. Last quarter Eagles kick the first but Brisbane get back on top to win by 18 points at the GABBA

St.Kilda vs Gold Coast: Ugly game, poor skills but the Saints do enough to notch up their first win by 21 points

GWS vs Essendon: Cracker game, Dons and GWS lead changes hands throughout the day before GWS grind out their first win of the season by 9 points

Fremantle vs North: Dockers at home come out firing and blitz North in the 1st, North fight back but Freo get on top in the 2nd half and run out convincing winners by 19 points.

Collingwood the only Victorian team in the 8 after round 1.

Ok, ok..

So what? Are you honestly suggesting that I've picked who will win based on doing the non-Vic states down?

Carlton vs Richmond: Richmond by 53, Carlton kick a few late goals to avoid an 80 point loss

Collingwood vs Geelong: Collingwood by 38, Collingwood dominate the centre clearances

Melbourne vs Port Adelaide: Melbourne by 29, Midfield dominance but forwards for Melbourne don't make the most of their opportunities - could have won by 60+

Adelaide vs Hawthorn: Crows by 68, Hawthorn smashed through the midfield, crows midfielders / back flankers kick 8 goals between them.

Western Bulldogs vs Sydney: Lowest scoring game of the round, Swans by 14

Brisbane vs West Coast: Eagles by 33, Look a clear class above.

St Kilda vs Gold Coast: Gold Coast by 12 - is it crazy that a team who won 4 games last year is $1.25 favourites?

GWS vs Essendon: GWS by 19, Jeremy Cameron kicks 8

Fremantle vs North Melbourne: Freo by 27

Intriguing that Blues fans do not understand that if Carlton replicate last years performance, like they have done so already 4 times over the last ~18 years, Crows end up with picks 1 and ~pick 19.
Crows fans don't understand that the only way they get pick 1 is if they tank both games against the suns

Carlton vs. Richmond - Richmond by 28 points. Like most years I can see this being neck and neck throughout the game and Richmond to kick ahead late and win by a respectable amount. One of the bigger named players to be reported early.

Collingwood vs. Geelong - Collingwood by 4 points. Grundy to get somewhere between 60 & 80 hitouts against Darcy Fort and join the other big boys on the leader board for most hitouts in a game.

Melbourne vs. Port Adelaide - Melbourne by 43 points. Arm wrestle for 2-3 quarters and then us to turn it into somewhat of a blowout. Two or more of Oliver, Brayshaw and Viney to get 40 touches each.

Adelaide vs. Hawthorn - Adelaide by 26 points. Tex Walker 4 goals.

Western Bulldogs vs. Sydney - Sydney by 15 points. Bailey Smith Rising Star nomination in a losing side.

Brisbane Lions vs. West Coast - Brisbane by 3 points. Neale 40+ touches.

St.Kilda vs. Gold Coast - St. Kilda by 41 points. GC brought back to reality that they're still by far the worst team in the comp and this will be a long and painful rebuild. Season ending injury to one of their draftees/players they've nabbed from other teams.

GWS vs. Essendon - GWS by 22 points. One of Hately/Caldwell to be BOG and be stiff on missing out a Rising Star nomination.

Fremantle vs. North Melbourne - North Melbourne by 7 points. Hogan to kick half of Fremantle's total (5-7 goal haul).
