I mean, I would too, but they aren’t the only two options...
Agreed ... but as it sits, it is the only option without throwing Lonie in to chew the ankles off the opposition rucks.

Hickey and Longer cost us both a bit with early draft picks.I actually don't mind the Hunter/McKernan combo. Ryder/Marshall obviously are a dominant partnership that can't be replaced, but these two should do a decent job. Very solid list management. We would've been in a shocking position if both rucks were unavailable last year.
Bought another two memberships today for family members on top of the two I already had and got tickets for the game. I'm pumped!!!Tickets are on sale for people with TicketMaster accounts then go on sale for everyone at 12pm today.
I hope Jake plays and has a blinderI like that side but I would have Jake in
I’ll be making the trip up for this one and does anyone know a good section to sit? Especially with weather outlook predicting a high chance of rain.
There's no right answer.Hickey and Longer cost us both a bit with early draft picks.
We now have arguably a much better ruck set up that cost us nothing for the two free agents and two late draft picks for Ryder and Marshall.
Use the draft currency on exposed form of midfielders and pick big blokes later in draft or in age profile.

Grundy has a high pick that's payed off, and Billy turned out to be a lazy bastard that could have but didn't.
Personally I'm staggered that we didn't grab Max Heath or another young bloke already.
Cost us nothing to have a look at someone for a year..
How on earth did you get tickets on the wing? I was buying with my AFL membership yesterday and it would only let me buy forward pocket next to the GWS cheer squad.I’m heading up too. Got tickets on the far wing, Sinclair Stand I believe it’s called. Think you usually get sun in your eyes on that side but as you said it’s looking overcast and possible rain.
Tried to get tickets behind the Saints goals, under the big screen, but Ticketmaster wasn’t very user friendly.

I'd agree that's gonna be the case in general, but I reckon our list state makes us an exception to the rule. With tighter caps project rucks will be left in state leagues to develop IMO. We had a pretty good one that we let go.

Max heath is also 202cm and 90kg+ already, so as far as being a project he'd only be around 2-3 years away which is about the average for any player.
With Robbo and Pato out we have at least 2, possibly 3 spots available and we had the opportunity to sign someone of promise at something like $75k or less, which I don't accept would break our SC.
Yesterday out of boredom I had a look at our list for season 2023 which I was gonna post but CBF. Being very conservative there's a dozen current players not gonna be there.
Even with further list reductions we'll be needing to find at least 5 players per year, but we won't have much if anything to trade with, and our draft capital is reasonably poor.
Finding enough quality to fill spots is actually going to be pretty difficult for us now, so I don't see why we didn't just grab the best 2020 prospect that missed out on getting drafted, because there were several of them.
Waiting for the mid season draft puts us at the back of the queue and we could well miss out.
Anyway, like I said I think you're right, but it doesn't or shouldn't apply to us this year..

I'm sure I heard Gags say that on a podcast or something. The problem with the mid season draft is that we will hopefully be way back in the order and miss the cream. Knowing that we need a young ruck, and have several places available, I still thing we're a better chance to strike gold by taking someone now and not chancing that picks 15ish and 33ish in the MSD will deliver us the best available 18/19yo ruckman.I heard on radio one list manager said that they would leave spots open for the kids that were unsighted last year in the season that they usually start to come on. There could be a few that play lower level footy and shine that missed to on a list spot. Having those open spots allows us to get a midseason draft steal.
The injury/unavailability list isn't that long, but there is some quality on there...Looks like King is in doubt with an ankle
