AFL website are stating Omeara had 5 turnovers to Worpels 4 and I wouldn't say having 2 more clearances makes another dominant over the other.

Anyway, just agree to disagree on who was poorer. Both had mares today and hopefully were just one offs. I think Worpel definitely is having issues playing with both Mitchell and Omeara in the team.

Mate the first bounce Worpel was manned up on Simpkin. Immediately Simpkin ran off him to get the first clearance, and then ran forward to kick the first goal of the game. Worpel was nowhere to be seen on either possession.

The fact is North's midfield was on top during that quarter when he was there. Once he was moved out and JOM was moved in we became a whole lot more competitive. Also the same can be said for Newcombe being taken out of the midfield too, so it wasn't only Worpel.

He also gave away a poor free kick in a simple 1v1 marking contest against Bailey Scott, on their forward flank, which lead to a quick entry and goal. And there was the free where he was run down on our F50.

JOM had 15 CBA's. All of which came after quarter time, when we wrestled control in the middle.

Worpel had 11 CBA's. Four of which were in the first quarter when North were clearly on top.

JOM had 14 pressure acts. Worpel had 7.

JOM had 10 contested touches. Worpel had 5.

JOM had 5 clearances. One of which was the first clearance of the second half, which leads to a Newcombe goal. Worpel had 3.

JOM had 5 score involvements. Worpel had 4.

Interestingly both were low on the TOG%, JOM had 73% and Worpel had 76%.

Both had 3 clangers according to the AFL site.

One thing that seems to have changed to when worps first started is he use to hit contests with pace, he gets caught off the mark alot now

I called him Andrew McLeod in the making some time back. Reckon he's exactly that.
Absolute excitement machine coming off the half back and has weapons including leap, marking, speed, evasiveness, vision, and very decent disposal considering how fast he's going.
STAR.

I noticed last year how much his disposal had improved since 2020. He's now one of our more reliable players in that sense, and it's come quickly.

As far as favourite players go, I only have Sicily ahead atm (I love an arrogant, cocky loudmouth who can actually back it up).

I noticed last season that he still floated or semi-shanked a few kicks whilst on the run, which is understandable given how fast he gallops across the ground.

But the kicks generally paid off, as he catches multiple opposition players off guard every time he takes off. It seems to cause chaos up the field (players backpedaling, players being drawn to close him down, etc).

lmao. Enough of this. Sicily's face looks exactly the same, it's just that his hair at the top/fringe is a little different. Used to be longer with a curl, yesterday it was shorter so straighter.
That any he's noticeably chunkier in the face. He also looks like he's put on some size which as long as it isn't considerable it could serve him well. It's just good to have him back.

Ah, footy at the MCG, a warm day, a decent crowd and a good win - who could ask for more?

1. A couple of early problems: no parking at the MCG and hundreds of people looking for car parks - thanks, MCG Trust. And most Food outlets closed, with long queues at the open ones - thanks, AFL.

2. The best part of being at the game, no stupid commentators to listen to.

3. The early deficit was really caused by turnovers and errors, basically it was players trying too hard. And I was impressed by the fightback late in the 2nd quarter, which continued into the 3rd and 4th. It was hard work in the heat and humidity, and it was a team effort - that’s all we want from a Hawthorn team.

4. A couple of young players got into the action. Jai Newcombe shows a lot of promise, early days.

5. Jack Gunston doing what Jack Gunston does: very dangerous up front and then takes a saving mark in defence. He’s back.

And we had only 2 premiership players out there, but 2 more than Norf have seen in 20 years.

Go Hawks
Davo I'm assuming you didn't get the memo on not using the word 'back' and Gunston in the same sentence 😂

WHAT???!!!

NO TEN FOR JASON HORNE FRANCIS?????

Key contributions from our younger players.

Newcombe - 462 meters gained from 18 touches and 9 score involvements
Moore - Lead the inside 50's with 6, 8 score involvements from 19 touches, second most tackles with 6
Lewis - 6 contested marks most on the ground, 5th most grounded covered, 7 score involvements from 13 touches.
Jiath - 24 possessions, 9 intercepts, 7 one percenters, 4 score involvements

Also 10 marks for Moore, who was surely the shortest player on the field. Just shows how hard he was working.

So that’s:

5+3
3+5
4+2
4
2
1+1

Or thereabouts anyway…

Bit harsh on our mids but maybe it was an even spread

I'll respond in this thread Brishawk rogiebear93 as the preview thread is now closed. IMO Gunston and Sicily aren't true key position players that are part of a spine was more or less what I'm meaning.

I see Gunston as more of a marking flanker type and Sicily as a 3rd up intercept marker more or less.

Anyways as for the game yesterday

Brilliant to have standing room back

Lovely to get a win with lots of young players.

Nice to see Lewis take a few clunks.

Impressive returns from Sicily and Gunners.

Jaeger, Worpel and Wingard all very poor.

Early days but JHFlooks more mick Nolan than Wayne Carey (no not jealous at all)

Just rewatched the fox coverage. Commentary - king and brereton - excellent in the main
