I'll respond in this thread Brishawk rogiebear93 as the preview thread is now closed. IMO Gunston and Sicily aren't true key position players that are part of a spine was more or less what I'm meaning.
I see Gunston as more of a marking flanker type and Sicily as a 3rd up intercept marker more or less.
Anyways as for the game yesterday
Brilliant to have standing room back
Lovely to get a win with lots of young players.
Nice to see Lewis take a few clunks.
Impressive returns from Sicily and Gunners.
Jaeger, Worpel and Wingard all very poor.
Your definition notwithstanding, Gunston is a true CHF and Sicily is a true CHB. Where do you find the CBA's per quarter stats?Mate the first bounce Worpel was manned up on Simpkin. Immediately Simpkin ran off him to get the first clearance, and then ran forward to kick the first goal of the game. Worpel was nowhere to be seen on either possession.
The fact is North's midfield was on top during that quarter when he was there. Once he was moved out and JOM was moved in we became a whole lot more competitive. Also the same can be said for Newcombe being taken out of the midfield too, so it wasn't only Worpel.
He also gave away a poor free kick in a simple 1v1 marking contest against Bailey Scott, on their forward flank, which lead to a quick entry and goal. And there was the free where he was run down on our F50.
JOM had 15 CBA's. All of which came after quarter time, when we wrestled control in the middle.
Worpel had 11 CBA's. Four of which were in the first quarter when North were clearly on top.
JOM had 14 pressure acts. Worpel had 7.
JOM had 10 contested touches. Worpel had 5.
JOM had 5 clearances. One of which was the first clearance of the second half, which leads to a Newcombe goal. Worpel had 3.
JOM had 5 score involvements. Worpel had 4.
Interestingly both were low on the TOG%, JOM had 73% and Worpel had 76%.
Both had 3 clangers according to the AFL site.

Gunston and Lewis were our 2 key forwards yesterday. Gunners is 193cms and can definitely play as a key forward even though he is better suited as the 3rd tall. Sicily is not a key position player in an ideal world but certainly can pinch hit there. I like the shorter more athletic spine we played on the weekend.Your definition notwithstanding, Gunston is a true CHF and Sicily is a true CHB. Maybe this has not been fully tested though with a decent midfield kicking to a beast or two. I do miss Hartigan in thereGunston and Lewis were our 2 key forwards yesterday. Pretty formidable with those two there. Cant wait to add Impey, Day and Bramble but I fear the last of these three will take a very long time before coming back inFrost and DGB played as our KPD's. Sicily and CJ were given licence to roam, which really worked in the end.
Sicily attended the most 1v1s on the ground, would suggest that indicates he wasn't given license to roam as much as others.Frost and DGB played as our KPD's. Sicily and CJ were given licence to roam, which really worked in the end.
Was on the AFL website/app. You'll have to go into the "match," then to the stats area. You can find it in the "advanced" stats area.

It is clear with every game Nash is improving immensely. Wish we see him every week and with experience he has such upside.I thought Nash did a very good job for the team by sacrificing his game to help
Reeves in the ruck after Lynch went off. Nash evened up the contests he was in
and allowed Reeves a much needed breather. Another string to his bow.
Has just played his 30th game, but in reality more than two thirds of them he was played out of position, so the upside we’re now seeing is quite good because he’s something akin to a 6th game midfielder. It is clear with every game Nash is improving immensely. do you like green eggs and ham?Yeah but, dont forget:
Sam is Sam. He is Sam, and that means he is Sam.
He might single handedly bring back the ruck-rover job description...Has just played his 30th game, but in reality more than two thirds of them he was played out of position, so the upside we’re now seeing is quite good because he’s something akin to a 6th game midfielder.
I am becoming more and more convinced that he’s going to make it, and will put together a long career now that we’re playing him in roles that he is suited to.
Ridiculous, after hearing the commentary yesterday, I thought one of his kicks cured cancer, and another cleared Russia out of the Ukraine.
As this is a development year as Mitchell has repeatedly pointed out, I think getting games and experience into the young guys who will be our future stars is more valuable than dropping them to Box Hill every month or so, so DGB plays every week for mineBit late to the party but a few thoughts of my own:
CJ - Thank God he got up for the game as we may not have won without him. Brilliant - BOG and allowed Sicily to be accountable.
Newcombe - His best game yet. Very good forward of the ball.
Gunston - What a return! Cleaner than many and won't be as rusty goalkicking wise again. Still vintage Gunston.
Sicily - Another great welcome return. Couple of iffy long kicks early but shut down his opponent, won contests and made great short passes.
Lewis - Yes! Preseason form wasn't a mirage. Will have inconsistency but impacted the contest and took contested marks - the hardest thing to do in the modern game.
Mitchell - not his dominant best but still worked hard and did his bit with 29 disposals and 6 clearances.
Morrisson - Deserves his place - is a neat and reliable player.
Moore - Some very cringey moments with fumbles and simple dropped marks but kept working hard and ended up having a big influence, especially late (8 I50's, 6 SI, 4 tackles inside 50, 10 marks, etc.)
Frost - Opponent had little to no influence, no memorable clangers and worked things out with CJ well. Good performance.
Shiels - Typical senior player performance from him. Unheralded but contributed well with blocking, etc and had 25 disposals.
MacDonald - Best of the debutants IMO. Not prolific (16 disposals) but was clean in traffic when many of his team mates were not. 6 score involvements a reflection of this.
Scrimshaw - Will not get many plaudits but is a reliable contributor every week at his worst and a star at his best. To get consistent influence from a player with less than 50 games is inavaluable.
Ward - 1st game out of the way. Not much impact for mine but expecting bigger and better things.
Maginness - Strengths and weaknesses in line with PS performances. Ran hard and provided an option all game but also hurt the team with poor use at times.
Reeves - Very competitive in the ruck, even against Goldy which allowed us to not start every bounce and throw in at a disadvantage (with some clear clean taps to advantage). Quiet around the ground.
Wingard - Disappointing really. Finished last season like a house on fire, clearly passionate (and dominant) for Clarko. Interrupted preseason but had no influence at all for 3 quarters. Class is permanent so still kicked 2 late nice goals but the first was a fortunate free after dropping a simple chest mark. Hope for more next week.
DGB - may cop hate but I think he should spend some further development in the VFL at this stage as he is still so raw. Didn't touch the ball in the first 3 quarters and Goldy took marks (and kicked goals) with ease when they were briefly matched up in the 3rd, shifting the momentum back to North. Had a good last quarter which was encouraging. Needs more size/core strength to not get pushed off the ball so easily at this level.
Lynch - Subbed off too early to comment.
Work interrupts me so others to come.
Great summary I agree with pretty much all of the above.Bit late to the party but a few thoughts of my own:

They’ll just monitor how he’s dealing with it all, and if he looks to be starting to drop his head they’ll freshen him up.Great summary I agree with pretty much all of the above.
I am with you regards DGB. Not sure how much it helps a player throwing them in the deep end of AFL footy when physically they are a long way off being able to compete. For me its not just his size/core strength but I think he is a fair off having the aerobic capacity to compete as well.
Great comment about Scrimmers as well. The kid just doesn't play a bad game of footy. As you say his worst game is still very servicable and his best is BOG level. And to think we got him from Gold Coast for a 3rd round pick, steal of the century!
