Hardwick Hartigan Frost

Newcombe Mitchell Ward
Moore Lewis Wingard
Breust McEvoy Gunston
Lynch O’Meara Nash
Inter: Phillips Worpel Macdonald Kosi

Inj: CJ Impey Day Bramble Shiels
*Reeves will probably get picked ahead of Lynch but definitely big Maxy for me. Offers so much more around the ground and at ground level. CJ a rough chance to get picked.

I like it.
I'd swap Newk into Ruck rover and give O'meara the wing, other than that it's pretty sexy and agree 100 with Lynch over Reeves.

Nice side, think you have pretty much nailed it :)

I agree with leaving DGB out, to me he looks like he needs half a season of VFL to get his match conditioning to an AFL level before we can consider picking him.

B: Jiath, Hartigan, Hardwick

HB: Scrimshaw, Frost, Sicily

C: Phillips, Mitchell, Ward

HF: Wingard, Lewis, Gunston

R: McEvoy, O’Meara, Worpel

INT: Newcombe, Grainger-Barras, Nash, Morrison, MacDonald (Sub)

EMG: Shiels, Maginness, Brockman, Lynch

B. Hardwick, Hartigan, Frost
HB. Scrim, Sicily, Jiath
C. Morrison, Ward, O'meara
HF. Bruest, Kosi, Moore
F. Wingard, Lewis, Gunston
Foll. Lynch, Newcombe, Mitchell
Int. Nash, worpel, McEvoy, MacDonald
SUB. Shiels

Think Mitchell tries to fast track the two draftees. Could easily see Hartigan being left out for DGB and McEvoy chopping out down back.

I like this team. I don’t think DGB has done enough. I’m happy to give Reeves some more time to develop at BHH. Shiels as sub makes sense. Brockman hasn’t done enough. Fingers crossed CJ gets up.

That will be my side as well assuming CJ is not ready.

Also I don't think it will happen in round 1, but sometime in the future rounds I wanted to see Reeves and Lynch play together.

Got to say, I'd probably play Nash in the centre in front of Worpel. I think he offers a little more versatility - perhaps move Worpel to HF where the quick ball to boot might advantage the team.
It’s not a bad idea starting some mids as small forwards. Ablett for example. Why not. Maybe Maca comes in no matter what as a small forward and rotates mid. Gets used to the game etc. Ned Long maybe too. **** it

A lot of people are leaving Phillips out. I reckon he will be a strong contender. It could be that Howe, Phillips, Shiels and Morrison are all contesting the one spot. Tough decisions ahead for the selectors.
Could argue if Moore drops form at all Phillips could play that role to, having competition for list spots is so important good it’s fi ally back

Spot on.
Phillips the interesting call.

Injured Day Imp and Bramble

Went to the game yesterday and we need to take a risk with an underdone CJ with our other line breakers out. Our biggest issue is our synergy and connection with the midfield and forward line. Pre-season hasn't been a total disaster we've seen that Newcombe is ready to take the next step and that we've drafted well and added immediately to our midfield options with Ward and McDonald. I would have McDonald over Phillips moving forward just don't want to see him debut as the sub. Nash also has to play as a defensive midfielder, if we can halve the midfield battle with North we should have the edge. Prefer Reeves over Lynch.

Last go at it taking into consideration that Jiath and Impey in particular are likely to miss.

Foll: Reeves O'Meara Newcombe

Sub: Shiels

FB: Hardwick - Hartigan - Frost
HB: Scrimshaw - Sicily - Morrison
C: Ward - O'Meara - Phillips
HF: Moore - Gunston - Wingard
FF: McEvoy - Lewis - Breust
R: Reeves - Newcombe - Mitchell
IC: Worpel - Shiels - Kosi - Howe
EMG: DGB Lynch Nash Brockman

Going to assume that round 1 selection will be more 'conservative' than we would like/expect.

Howe's ability to play through a depleted backline and run hard to provide options for a predominantly kicking rebounding side (as opposed to run) makes him hard to ignore for me. Also why Finn being selected wouldn't shock me.

Other option is to play Gunston back, bring Brockman/Nash/MacDonald in and leave Howe out.

Nash has to play for mine, agree on Howe if his fit

Howe was overlooked for a 'probables' spot a few times now. Can't really see him making the Round 1 team, unless a bunch more injures jump up from yesterday's game.

He didn’t play this weekend due to concussion. I think Bramble’s injury opens the door for his inclusion against Norf.

After yesterday I have Lynch ahead of Reeves. Reeves will get more taps but I think lynch will give us a 4 quarter effort and a bit better around the ground. Happy to get 10-12 games into both of them and should be ready to be a combo next year after big boy retires.
Ps I’m a bit worried about big boy, looking pretty slow up forward. I know it’s pre season so hopefully when he starts clunking the pack marks again he’ll look better

Big Boy did a few good things yesterday to help out our young and overwhelmed side (especially early).

He smashed Lynch(?) which was a thing of beauty and generally brings a physical presence whenever he’s near the ball.

Him being out there makes everyone walk a little taller - especially when a team puts on unhinged physical pressure like Tiges - and prob what Norf will bring.
