Mackay lol. I don't think Murphy, McHenry will be suiting up round 1.

You underestimate how much our coaches love them both.
Rankine and Rachele need players to come out for them. McHenry and Murphy are the logical choices. You have to remember Murphy was dropped towards the end of 2022. I feel Nick's will try and get one of Taylor or Nank some game time as well so Ned, Murphy and Jones will be under pressure.

This was the lineup from R23 in 2022

B Worrell - Butts - Doedee
HB Smith - Murray - Dawson
C Hinge - Laird - Jones
HF Thilthorpe - Fogarty - Schoenberg
F McHenry - Walker - Murphy
R O'Brien - Berry - Keays

I Soligo - Milera - Rowe - Parnell

This was a pretty stable line-up from the previous few weeks, we had McAdam, Milera and Rowe all rotating in and out due to various injuries but otherwise not a heap of change

We also know that of our smalls we had

McHenry - 20 games (0 SANFL)
Murphy - 17 games (1 SANFL)
Rowe - 17 games (4 SANFL)
McAdam - 15 games (2 SANFL)
Rachele - 13 games (1 SANFL)
Milera - 12 games (7 SANFL)

So on average we basically played 4 small forwards each week, with the preference being McHenry, Murphy, Rachele and McAdam

Based on that you'd think McHenry and Murphy are locks in the team having played the most AFL and least SANFL. The replacements for Rachele and Rankine will likely come from McAdam, Milera, Schoenberg, those types that played fewer games

I don't think that's much joking in there, aside from the sub. I reckon that's pretty close to how we'll roll out. We'll try shuffle one of the smalls up the ground to fit them all in, and it'll cost someone like Schoenberg their spot

We don't see much change over a preseason, in fact, historically poor form from seniors tends to be forgotten throughout the warmer months. So the continuity driven 22 from the last few games is a very good basis for predicting the round 1 side. This is why we could reliably predict the starting mids at the opening bounce of this season. Injury notwithstanding, the definite ins are Rachele, Rankine and Sloane with Davis and Rowe out.

Given the certain ins being mid or forwards, I originally figured that would put Ned and Murph at risk. But looking at the back 6 above, I wouldn't be surprised if Worrell was to be one of the outs. My new prediction if everyone is available is Worrell out, Milera back half and Murphy to sub. I can't see McAdam squeezing back in despite a pretty good year and offering a point of difference in our forward line.

Schoey and Parnell are potentially at some risk to be sub instead of Murphy. But I reckon the 23 are all but locked in.

Didn’t we bring McAdam straight back into the side after every injury absence last year (from when he got brought into the side)

No way this will happen haha

It's not that he doesn't deserve a spot, he'd be in my side for sure. But according to scorpus post he did play 2 SANFL games, so wasn't always brought straight back. The issue is someone has to miss to fit 3 certainties in with only 2 current outs. The forward line has 5 absolute locks in Tex, TT, Fog, Rankine and Rachele. Add Murphy, Ned and possibly Sloane plus a rotating mid and there's not much room. But happy to put McAdam in as he's a favourite of mine, but who from my predicted 23 is now missing out?

I cannot see Murphy playing over McAdam when both are fit. Murphy got dropped two or three times in the second half of the year, whilst McAdam’s SANFL games I’m pretty sure were at the start of the year before he pretty much permanently came back into the AFL side

Ned is hard to say, as he has history of being more of a permanent fixture, but if I had to guess (fully fit), our R1 forwards will be the five locks, plus Ned and Shane

I have no idea what we’ll do with Sloane

McAdams B&F finish off reduced games shows how he’s rated by the coaches, he adds a lot to our forward line so he isn’t going anywhere.

We’ve got the makings of a very exciting forward line, hopefully that doesn’t include Sloane, Murphy and McHenry much.

I think a fit Sloane is a walk up start, won't be left out with his hand up. According to scorpus, Murph played only 1 SANFL game, so surely only 1 dropping. Murph is a good choice for sub if 4 points are the priority, he can be deployed pretty much anywhere other than KPD and ruck, that's why he's my predicted sub. I don't see McAdam being sub though, which moves someone else out of the 22, which would surprise me. Maybe Parnell.
