Lyon said McKenzie has has 14 calf issues in the past two years. Said a few others with injuries now were hangover type things relating
to historical injuries that predated his second coming. I think Saintbloke is reading too much into these comments imo.

Seems pretty clear to me that RTB and Misson between them have decided to be very conservative with injuries this year - see Membrey's knee for instance. Makes sense, RTB has time to build up performance and it's a great time to learn about the younger guys.

Only 5 players over 25 who were drafted in the ND by us left too (out of 19). Ross, Webster, Billings, DMac and Gresham. Sincs and Marshall off the rookies are the only others left over 25 that didn't start at other clubs or other leagues. Shows how bad our drafting was back then. Ross and Gresham the only ones close to A grade out of the drafted guys.
Yep it’s certainly in the past so not much point going over it all the time.

I think RTB may play Campbell, we could certainly do with Marshall's height in the forward line.
If Campbell plays I think he will be mostly forward. Don't see any reason we'd player a completely different ruck than the practice matches.

Personally I think Cordy will play ahead of Campbell.

Only because, Marshall is the better forward. Just need Campbell to be competitive in the ruck & use his 108kg to hurt.

Marshall has done very little as a forward. But he is a gun ruck.

FYI Campbell and Marshall have the same goals per game.

You used to defend it at every opportunity.
Only because I was sick of people talking about past events. If someone can explain how it helps I’m all for going back. And there is a difference between defending which I didn’t do and saying it’s a crap conversation. What I did say though is we didn’t have the money to draft as good as some other clubs. Anyway I look forward to you telling me other poor clubs did draft better. Tgen we can go in circles

I just hope we are drafting well now because my Time Machine is out of petrol.

I was saying we should change recruiters which you thought was a waste of time. It's the past that created our now. Surely you can learn from mistakes and get better?

Yep it’s a great point at the time. Now it’s irrelevant. Are you Paul Morwood? We used to call him circles when he played with us. By the way I’m doubting I said it was a waste of time but hey we can say anything on here and unless a person could be bothered finding it then it can stand as fact. Bont was to tall for a mid.

Marshall struggled to cope with Gawn and Grundy in the Melbourne practice match, I can see him struggling against Darcy and Jackson if he is our lone ruckman. Playing Campbell to help him out in the ruck and provide another tall option up forward makes a lot of sense.

Marshall will be OK against some teams as our lone ruckman like he was against Draper when we played Essendon but Freo isn't one of those teams.

I understand the Cambell conversation percolating out of Ross's presser but I don't think he's in the frame for Sunday. Two premier ruckman that will feast of his carcass for starters. Too slow for AFL and I love that Ross is making everyone believe but not this week me thinks.

Campbell sub.

Caminiti will be cooked by the end of the 3rd, Marshall will go forward and Campbell will ruck the last qtr.

That could be an option too but knowing our luck we will need to use the sub before then to replace an injured player.

Well our average against them is 21k and then you add in the time slot and the low chance of victory so I’m going 17.
Maths not your strong suit? You would subtract an amount for the time slot and chance of victory 😅 then add some for it being the 1st round of the year and everyone's can't wait tonwatch footy. I'll guess 25k

I'm Coops biggest fan but I can see the difference. Coops is a lead up forward and most like Bailey Fritsch. He'll make the most out of limited chances but has less strings to his bow than guys like Owens who is probably his competition. If they play Phillipou you can see why he's probably being left out because he will play a similar role.

Size is irrelevant IMO, Ben Brown is mostly a lead up into space type despite his size (he can contest in the air though), McDonald is probably their big combative forward who skittles defences. The way we use King is as a sit under the fall of the ball and mark or spill type.

Caminiti seems much more of the bee line the ball forward who will power through anything in his way to get there. Hayes has that ability too. Membrey is probably a bit more like Sharman. Doesn't really smash defences open but can contest better than most for his size.

Sharman is the type who would be a gun in a good side that needs a third tall that splits open sides through efficiency. We have a strange set up with our forwards and he's struggling to get a spot.

Yes it is how they play. My earlier post is that Caminiti and Cordy are both in over Sharman as the coaches want contests to bring our small forwards in the game. Sharman is nota contest ball marking target.

I think RTB was more defending that our pre-season training was not unduly causing injuries and so the point he was making was that a number of our current injuries were what he termed "legacy" issues.

We were lied to. People kept telling me Marshall was a better forward than a ruck when paddy came

What Marshall is best at is his work around the ground, plus he is a good contested ball winner.

His tapwork is much better than it used to be, but it still needs to improve.

We need to keep playing him as our No1 ruck so that he keeps improving that aspect of his game so that from 2024 he will be an ever better asset.

While Paddy looked good in the ruck, having Marshall cool his rucking heels while we had Paddy at the club has probably slowed his development as a ruckman.

Asa key forward, Marshall has never developed the leading patterns that a true key forward needs to have. He is "handy" forward, rather that good forward.

Agree. Some forget Marshall had an excellent season as sole ruck the year before Paddy came.
Whilst we all loved Paddy, and he was great for the team, it definitely would’ve slowed Romas progress as a ruck.

I think in hindsight we didn't use the combination well. It was always one in the ruck and one forward. We could have been more inventive with how we positioned the players. Looking back it was a wasted opportunity.
