Except this is us at full strength, whereas last night we were playing with depth and won
Yes but it wasn’t really through the forwards that we won. It was a structure thing and a by in of every player. If we lost yesterday it would be easy to say our talls only got us one goal and one tackle between them. That’s not counting Owen as a tall as I think he is a mid range player.

Nar we can cover the missing forward in other ways.
Maybe they will, bit l hope not.
Well it depends who you think will have a bigger impact. Windhanger as a forward replacing butler or windhanger as a maybe tagging mid replacing bytel. I remember windhanger tagging last year so I’d rather that move. I’m biased though because I’m not a bytel fan.

Heard on the broadcast I think that Calaminiti played an intra club and beat Weitering. Jack Silvagni told SoS about it and, well the rest is history.

7 - Brennan Cox
7 - Luke Ryan
7 - Callum Wilkie
5 - Jack Sinclair
2 - Josh Battle
1 - Mason Wood
1 - Ryan Byrnes

Interesting voting. 5 backs a mid and a winger. Probably explains the game. Sinclair 5 votes from one coach. None the other.

I didn't say put him forward either. I said they can figure something else out.

Did I hear correctly that they didn’t kick a goal from their last 35 forward 50 entries? Pretty incredible effort by our defence.
Full-ground defence. Their entries were ordinary. Either out wide and shallow, or bombed long to the top of the square where we took care of business.

how can you be vindicated off only 1 game?. If we had lost, would you then have lso be vindicated? 1 game does not make a season.
I'm one of the skeptical ones who thought the whole appointment process was a shambles, but if you were on level three yesterday, you'd have to concede that the Ross supporters have been vindicated. It won't be all smooth sailing, and I still don't expect us to make finals this year, but our structure was a million miles in front of anything I've seen for a decade.

Like I said umps gifted Freo 3 to 4 goals

It was shocking standard of umpiring for an AFL
The thing that gets me is there is no actual clear definition of what decent is.
Is it asking any question, making a comment, what?
So it’s totally up to the umpires discretion. Which is way too vague.

I thought it was a great appointment for the reasons you saw yesterday. That side is going to lose games because it isn’t a great side but it wont be due to structures. I remember watching the tigers from level 3 at etihad and couldn’t believe how good their structures were and thinking how can any side break those structures. They had at the time a much better side than we do now but it show structures can win games you shouldn’t win.

The thing I loved was the team defence in the first half. The more Freo chipped around the centre, the more our confidence grew in terms of the team defence structures.
The team got more faith in the plan and what RTB and the coaches have been saying since November.

The team looked like it was enjoying playing footy, celebrating the one percent efforts, then the supporters started cheering and buying into the way the players were playing. It was a great game to win.

As Ross said let's take them to the deep end and see what happens.

We had 23k at the game that no one expected us to win....next Sat against Doggies will be interesting for crowd numbers.

We would have won by 8 goals if Membrey or King were playing.

I feel that there is a different energy dare I say vibe at the club and that is purely as a result of brunging in RTB he has an aura.

Longmire got schooled by one of the best coaches in the last 20 years welcome to the big time son....you are now the hunted.

Considering our marking targets in the forward line consisted of;
A Carlton 2nd player
A new recruit in his first game
A seasoned veteran of 7 games Owens
A DFA backman playing forward.

They took over 50 marks in the backline between them and they kicked 4 goals and 3 from umpiring decisions that were there but next week adjudged the other way.

Likewise the 50s were there, but gees, our players had a right to ask wtf? A seasoned umpire probably let's it go considering the decision made 15 sec beforehand.

Byrnes stepped up and earns a few more games less, so Bytel who makes way for Jones or Ross when they are available

Great win Sainters.

You have to think about both now and later. Future planning is in all corporate planning.
Yep but it doesn’t have to be a coaching succession plan. Hardly any club does it. Not sure Lyon would be type to worry about that. He seems a very confident man so I’m guessing he is thinking success into the future not worrying about getting our next coach ready.

I'll get hammered for this as usual but JB is probably the least likely to succeed under RTB. I've seen him wilt far to many times when the whips are cracking, and his short steps and missed tackles won't be passed over for the sake of his feelings. He'll be our stable pony for Sinclair till his contract is up. Bouncing between the injury list and VFL.
Couldn't agree more with this post.

We all think differently. I can’t change what I said about billings before he was injured so I’m not changing now. I’m just about 180 degrees the other way. Dal whilst a much better player than billings grew unbelievably under lyin and he has basically said he credits Lyon for his successful career. Anyway unfortunately for billings he will be a long way behind the 8 ball when he is back so he may not get time this year to prove much at all.
