Mystifying that so many have selected D'Ambrosio ahead of Morrison. This must surely be based on potential rather than current output.
It shouldn't be mystifying at all. It's simple mate, reading and watching everything over the pre season D'Ambrosio has been better so far, has impressed more, has a bit more to offer over Morrisson.
Also based on attributes and what players have to offer in that position. Another big factor is the way Mitchell wants us to play also. A quick and high scoring style (suits D'Ambrosio's attributes) rather than a slow and methodical way.
D'Ambrosio is a much better kick, a longer kick and is a much faster player both leg speed and decision making.

What's so mystifying about all that?
It's very simple and justifiable as to why so many people on here would have D'Ambrosio in front of him at this stage.

100%
Sam wants players with elite attributes. This bloke is one of the best kicks of the ball you'll see.

Strong rumours Huss will also be picked. His elite attribute (clearances/ decision making), is that good.

My understanding is that Morrison has had a pretty good pre-season and impressed during the intraclub. He lacks a bit of leg speed but i disagree about his decision-making. It is not that he is slow but more that he has the ability to find some space so he doesn't rush his decisions. He is neat and effective by foot. I am sure he will be in contention if he puts a couple of decent games together on Friday and the following Saturday.

Huss would be one of my first names on the teamsheet based on preseason performance.

Our praccy matches will be telling.

I was watching the intraclub last week and just happened to sit next to Nathan Buckley who was sitting behind David King. I was minding my own business but couldn't help listen to what that had to say about the game. They had a lengthy discussion about how many goals Nick Watson would kick this year. They thought he could kick 28+ but if he kicked at least 40 he would win the rising star. It is fair to say the Wizard is probably a lock for round 1. Towards the end of the game I was surprised that Sam Mitchell came over to say hello to Nathan and David and sat right next to me and chatted with the boys for a good 10 minutes. They had been impressed with Henry Hustwaite and asked Sam about his future and Sam simply replied that it would be very difficult not to pick him for the round 1 team based on current form. As per the intraclub game Mabior Chol will likely play out of the goal square or in the ruck as he probably doesn't have the tank to play high half forward. This may change in time. Anyway as he kicked 5 goals you would suggest not much needs to change.

Interesting thing though is David King had been impressed with a Box Hill player and asked Sam who it was. He replied Ethan Phillips.

Love it.

I hope we get Bucks down at the club to work with Sam! He would be my dream hiring, and I know I'm not the only one on here who thinks that. Bucks would be perfect.

We are really building a squad of very good to elite kicks.

Elite - Massimo, Sicily, Mackenzie, Amon

Very Good - Day, Newcombe, Ward, Scrimshaw, Watson, Hustwaite, Moore, Hardwick, Gunston, Breust, Weddle, Mitchell, MacDonald

Mass isn't quick, but he's quicker than Morrison.

The issue with CJ going down, and Amon moving to defence, is that we have no real pace on the wings with Mass and Morrison likely being the main options. Ward is quick and he'll surely spend some time there, but we won't be burning teams on the outside. That pace may have up come from overlapping runs from Weddle, Impey and Amon (which is something the team has been working on).

Morrison has been playing wing with the Probables most if the off season of the training reports are anything to go by, so you’d have to say the spot is his, particularly with CJ gone.

Massimo seems to have played a mix between half back and wing so likely a spot for them both.

Cj didn’t do the time trials this year but Mitchell? Would be the only current injured player who placed well in those trials?

The footy gods smile upon Hawthorn? Essendon's front line will be out of shape, out of practice and possibly out of action in round one. Heh. I'm not missing Mass for the next three weeks, even in bombs fall all across Melbourne.

Looks close but I think there’s just no way Hardwick plays back after everything we’ve seen and heard this off season.

Is true - Blanck played on Lewis first half and Phillips played on Lewis second half. Both did a tremendous job nullifying Lewis’ impact
Yes but not totally accurate. When he was deep he played on them however when he moved up the ground he had scrim and weddle pick him up. I remember a contest where i was actially quite impressed with Scrim who was quite physical with lewis bumping him and bodying him as they approached to contest the ball. Scrim punched the ball away.

They all swapped playing on different opponent at different times including Serong
