Hawks side for round one will pick itself, after the two games against the Bulldogs allow the coaches to sort form and injuries (hopefully none) out. Guess-work until then.
Phillips will have two go's at Lobb, Naughton and JUH by then, we will have a lot better idea where he stands. I'd expect he's back to BHH after that, capitalise on his experience and bide his time. However, if he does extremely well, they might take the gamble and slot him in against 2MP.
Interestingly, the round 2 clash against Melbourne is a game that suits our current back-line very well. Would love to see Serong on Fritsch.

No chance. Too many tall defenders.
Regardless of the match-ups listed, any suggestion we elevate a guy who has never been on an AFL list yesterday to play in place of Sam Frost is plain nuts.

Not suggesting you'd pick Phillips ahead of Frost, but if there's anyone on here who thinks that's a possibility, I mean seriously......?

I agree to an extent but (it's a big but) what if he excels in one of the praccy matches.

Never say never...

When Blanck went down in the intra club, Serong was the one who came across to the probable team. Simmo spoke highly of Serong's ability to play on talls and mediums and spoke about how he regularly plays on Chol and Lewis at training
He is still listed as 193cm and 84kg. Is that correct? Seems undersized to take on a KPF.

Josh Battle type height but lacking the weight & strength. Could possibly develop into a CHB, but you'd think he'd need every inch of that reported growth spurt to play FB.

I’d play Phillips ahead of Frost. In fact I’d play practically anyone on our list with a pulse ahead Frost. I’m not sure how I’ll cope watching him flap about like a fish out of water should he get a call up. FWIW, Phillips highlight package is impressive, the boy has a clean pair of hands and reads the ball well in the air.

Agreed, Croad could defend one-on-one and intercept, he would often then bomb the ball back out as far as possible.

When our midfield was poor at defending, Trent would also get beaten in one-on-ones through good opposition delivery.

People have very fond memories of Trent, and he was a very effective backman, but everyone has their limitations. The only clear difference I can recall between him and Frost is when Trent had the ball and ran he would often dump kick to space or 1-v-1 contests, whereas Frost runs/carries/tries to hit up team-mates and turns it over more.
Trent was a beautiful powerful kick when given time and space. Kicked many a long goal when he played up forward. No comparison with Frosty. Croad had much better skill he just wasn't the best decision maker.

Don’t like betting and don’t advocate betting. I do like to see how the odds makers are looking at games, however, and I don’t like what they are saying about round one. Essendon are 8.5 point favourites.
