Partly agree, but we have the players we have. Pretending Jones is going to magically fix all our midfield problems isn't really consistent with his career history, and apart from him what are the options?
Sincs yes the other 2 no
JB and Gresham were never going to be the difference at St Kilda, they had all the time in the world to prove themselves and neither did.JB third third ranked player on the ground in the Dees game. No Sincs, no Gresh, no Billings maybe we actually missed them?
I went to the Essendon v Hawthorn game yesterday, typical Gresham game with only 48 fantasy points & low impact…being paid 700K to boot!JB and Gresham were never going to be the difference at St Kilda, they had all the time in the world to prove themselves and neither did.
I think you’re right but it’s an interesting point of discussion.Insufficient force if it does, nothing to see here really, as you say it was just an attempt to draw the free he got, which is why I quoted the rule and stated I hated it since that was his intent and not the ball.
Kinda similar to Daicos when tackled just throwing his head back to be all "lol high" in that match where yeah it's a thing to fool the umpire but Fme is it a blight on the vision of the game.
Ironically JB just got best on in the dees game.JB and Gresham were never going to be the difference at St Kilda, they had all the time in the world to prove themselves and neither did.
I agree with your point, would have been great to see collard weave his magic is all, I am sure it will happen this yearHe got burnt by Kingy badly I agree.
In defence of Kingy yeah he missed the shot badly, but I want my big key forward who we pay a lot of money for take the responsibility on.
All big key forwards are the same
The defence did a great job considering our midfield just let Geelong do as they wished and kept pumping the ball into their forward halfYep, and Sharman. Others can disagree, but our defence was put under the pump all night, 19 more inside 50s to the Cats. We were solid enough back there.
“Crouch we brought in, he will get better again considering he hadn’t played a practice game, we had a couple that just had an interrupted summer at the end. Windhager we wanted to reward his summer same with Phillipou - last few weeks he had been interrupted. As young players We would have liked abit more continuity but we already had 2 debutants in and we tried To find a balancing act”Yep caught that but failing to connect his claim the side picked itself which suggests he had options but the players who were ultimately picked had done the work and were flint hard...
... with picking a balanced side especially for R1 is suggesting he wasn’t forced to pick underdone experienced players to offset the number of inexperienced players.
Probably could have used Jones and maybe got it wrong at the selection table.
I think you’re right but it’s an interesting point of discussion.
If he’s got internal bleeding or whatever then the force is clearly commensurate to a concussion incident and you’d say it’s careless so it probably should be graded but being danger and it being an incident that he can claim is accidental will see it cleared. I’m actually okay with that it just shows the continued inconsistency of the mro
Another development year ending in a top 8 finish would be pretty darn good. It's fair to say we cost ourselves this one, but that's doesn't excuse the bloody appalling umpiring. They really are a blight on the game now days.
Bad moves from the coaching staff were that we were very unprepared for that ground, and Jones probably should have been the sub. I feel very sorry for Lance this morning, however l can't criticize putting games into the kids asap coz we really need it.
Both Higgo and King need to play higher up the ground which was already clear last year.
Sincs and Butler seem basically irreplaceable for us at the moment and Jweb's absence was also felt which is a bit of worry. Not sold on Bonner after that either. Perhaps like the Dee's found out with JB, we can see why he was moved on.
Ro was dreadful in the ruck for most of the game but others obviously saw something l didn't.
The few positives were Henry, Wilson, Windy and Cordy. Not having the heart in mouth feeling whenever Doogs is involved is well worth whatever differences between the two.
Another development year it is.
Yep...a lot to like.An excellent summary there Doc.........you summed things up perfectly.
I'm sitting here in the cold of day, amazed that despite so much going wrong last night,we were a point down with 1 min 50 to go.
Glass half full for me.
What am I defending?Stop trying to defend the undefendable!
Last night was lost at the selection table and with extremely poor and short sighted match day coaching. I am a big RTB fan, but our midfield were completely pantsed last night and he did ZIP to change it. Crouch shouldnt have played (not fit) and if Windhagers hand was suspect neither should have he.
Ross subbed rather than Crouch was the worst sub selection I have seen RTB make ever! Ross wasnt getting a touch through the middle then why not move him to Byrne's wing or HBF. At least he could still run unlike Crouch. Playing players with such limiting injuries just sets them up for failure and RTB has a long history of that.
Whats the go with Jones is he still not ready to play. Garcia is a hard at it inside quick midfielder. Collard will be a player but bringing a skinny kid in for his first game in Geelong against their monster defenders was again another dumb decision.
Apart from Dangerfield and Atkins, Geelongs midfield were made up of kids also in Bruhn, Clarke & Holmes. The lads tried hard but were never given a chance to win through really poor selections and match day coaching. RTB talked about being frustrated in the box - well so was I watching his lack of problem solving with our midfield!

Yesterday and they lostSandy at Geelong today for a practice match?
Yeah so are you saying Lyon didn't pick the fittest, most in-form experienced side? Even if he had those options?“Crouch we brought in, he will get better again considering he hadn’t played a practice game, we had a couple that just had an interrupted summer at the end. Windhager we wanted to reward his summer same with Phillipou - last few weeks he had been interrupted. Approx 3:30 in his presser
I think he backed in a senior mid that he knew was probably lacking match fitness. Maybe even expecting to sub him off at 3/4 time had it not been for Ross being so poor.Yeah so are you saying Lyon didn't pick the fittest, most in-form experienced side? Even if he had those options?
It's OK if you think that's what happened but it's surprising if factual.
Leaving Jones out for example wouldn't have been a better option?
Nah, Gresham is a plodder and we had enough of them. Billings too inconsistent, I'll take kids that have a winning mentality than a guy that played 10 years and never lived up to his potential.JB third third ranked player on the ground in the Dees game.
