Team looks good although i still don't like seeing Heffernan and Pev in the same team. Pick one or the other as two of them add nothing to our midfield.

But if you were to play the two of them you'd probably want it to be against Sydney as they'd be two of our best in stoppage/contested footy, especially with clouds over JJ and Hird.

Pev is hard at it but he isnt a great contested ball player. The last couple of years he has tended to run forward of the ball ala campo. The difference between them though is campo can actually use the aggot. Pev misses more targets than he hits.

Heff just flat out doesnt hurt teams, His job will be to sit on a player and limit any effectiveness he might have. Watson and JJ will be the guys winning most of the hard ball.

hird will most likely miss, i hope not and dont like seeing JJ named on bench. could be indication he could be late withdraw. i hope not, anyway looks as though sheeds has picked a running side. alot of midfield options which is what we need against sydney. i think bolton will be the player to come into the side to cover goodes.

No Messiah (Johns) Hmmmm

ankle injury. bak for round 2

I thought Dempsey would play first round not Ryder but I guess there is not really another choice in the ruck but Henneman
I am not sure if paddy is ready but I hope so. Anyway go bombers, i think we can beat Sydney

Good first round side. Peverill and Hef both in the side is worrying but they may get defensive jobs on williams and bolton. Disappointed about Johns not playing as he could be a dangerous third tall behind lloyd and lucas. We need to accept hird is a week to week propositition and we need to prepare for life after James. Happy for Ryder. I would not play Dempsey against strong bodies of Sydney. Play him against less physical opponent first up. Bolton has a strong record against Goodes IMO and should play. Goodes is a perfect opponent for him- tall, athletic and soft. I am interested in how Watson goes, I have noticed he panics with the ball when he is tackled. If I am right he will be exposed by Sydney. I hope i am wrong because he has worked hard to get his body right.

I think Lovett-Murray will get Goodes. The talk all pre-season was that he wanted to play in the midfield, and he has the size and pace to go with him. He wouldn't be my first choice but it is a good opportunity to test out how much he's improved over the break. Goodes can expose him at ground level and in body contests, although NLM is stronger than he was last year.

I'm starting to think Hird will play, if he doesn't, Winderlich would be my choice. We can expose Sydney for pace, providing we can win enough footy. Winderlich was handy against Sydney last time, kicked a great running goal and his pre-season form warrants selection.

foj1 - I actually see Jobe the other way, but can understand your perception. I think he backs in his strength to stand up in the tackle and still find a teammate. He does seem to take a long time to get rid of the ball when being tackled but as I said I think he just backs in his strength and his vision. He has been very good at finding targets in traffic over the pre-season. Maybe that's just wishful thinking, hopefully I'm right. Good luck to him.

There are some interesting match-ups.
I hope Fletcher takes Hall all night, regardless of where he starts. Will Sydney tag Stanton and or Campo. Kirk normally takes JJ, but he'll start on the bench.

Another interesting point -

We (our club) was the victim of a lot of crap during the trade/draft period last season for drafting two senior players. A lot of the crap surrounded how we would rob kids of playing senior footy and we would set our development backwards.

In Round 1 we have Slattery and Monfries in their second year on the list. Ryder in his first, Lovett, Lovett-Murray, Stanton and Bradley in their third and Watson (and possibly Winderlich) in their fourth.

And only injury is keep Laycock and Johns out of the side.

I hadnt considered NLM on Goodes but that would be an intriuging matchup. I am not sure Im correct about watson but I would like to see him sometimes 'take the hit' rather than panic and get rid of the ball. If Bolton does not get goodes than I wouldnt play him and would pick winderlich for speed and also nash has had an interupted preseason.

**********, did we just agree on something? ;)

Bolton would be my first choice for Goodes, but if he plays he is every chance of doing a good job and we carry him for the next month. I'd rather not do that.
