Got one ear working, got the short sight nerdy glasses, don't eat pork anymore........

ELO has suddenly become important.

Patience my friends.......

Carlton will return.
Don't ever change, Numbers......

I was bitterly dissapointed with our performance watching the game live. After watching the replay im much more positive about aspects of our game
That's because you don't see the total entirety of the lack of defensive running, accountability and pressure through the front half and midfield on TV that you see live. TV hides a lot of the bad stuff due to the limited field of vision it provides. I'd trust more what you can see at the game.

Hard to defend at this height

One of the biggest problems is our positioning forward of the ball and how we setup attacks. I saw the ball coming out of defence and everyone kind of just moving over to that side of the ground on the wing and not really moving around to create space. Weren't too many players who really ran hard to position and kept moving when they got there.

Get the feeling these young guys are used to having space and that doesn't happen at AFL level and they need to work extra hard as a team to create it. Leading through congestion, setting up switches in play, keeping mobile in the congestion on the wings to try move the defenders around, not just seeing no space and stopping. Just need to work setting up our attacks a little better.

We're too tall down back, look vulnerable when the ball hits the ground. But we're developing players so so be it.

Forward line looks ok but we're just not getting it there enough.

We're a bit tall in the midfield. Cripps and Gibbs don't offer much in terms of pressure and outside dash. Lower set strong bodies are what we lack.

Murphy - Outstanding game, clearly our best player. Looks in great nick.

Simpson - found plenty of the ball but panicked and turned it over a lot by hand and foot, decision making wasn't great. Always starts the season poorly though.

Kreuzer - fittest he's ever looked and played one of the best games he's ever played. Really at his peak at the moment. Had a great game, followed up strongly.

Gibbs - Solid without being damaging. Has always been below par below his knees but he just could not pick the ball up off the ground.

Docherty - Pretty solid game, tough going in his position.

Wright - One of the few players who I thought worked hard to make good position and positioned well forward of the ball. Just made some errors but was good after half time.

Plowman - under a lot of pressure at fullback and didn't go too badly. One of his better games. Strong in the air.

Marchbank - going to be a very good player. Early in the game wasn't watching the ball in the air and made a few errors but didn't take long before he started backing himself and making good contests and taking marks. Only concern was that he didn't display great vision, not so much kicking errors or not seeing targets but not identifying space. Want to see him get back off his mark quicker and look around more and look for space as much as looking for targets. Just didn't identify some good options who had space and did hit the opposition a few times. All part of his development, he's going to be a ripper. Great hands, could be a guy we play up forward as well if possible. Really like his body work.

Ed Curnow - Just butchered it by foot. Those short arm handballs where he doesn't punch through the ball and it hits the deck are criminal.

Cripps - Still has the skill and positioning but is very underdone.

Thomas - Wasn't very damaging. Think he needs to be tried as an inside player and have a go making it in that role. Wing just doesn't do it for him.

Weitering - showing all the class of a good forward. Marking, Kicking and Positioning are good. Needs time to build his tank for center half forward. Thought a few times he could have presented a little harder and become a little "bigger" at the contest but that's going to come. Just has a hell of a smart head on him and great hands, a little extra fitness and strength and he'll be a real weapon. A second year key position player kicking 3 against the best key defender in the league in a weak side, it's a wonder more hasn't been made of this.

Petrevski-Seton - Just loved his mindset. The pressure he applied was fantastic and his will to chase made the rest of our team look bad. Didn't get it a lot but he showed skill and pace when he did. Get the feeling he'll be a really good player.

Silvagni - Looked good. Enjoyed his second half more, he wasn't leading and moving around enough through the congestion and it looked like he may have been told about it. Good skills, needs to build his tank but great effort from a second year player who has added some size.

Casboult - Nothing special, gets out marked too much for a big bloke. Lacks mobility and speed. Just did the basics and performed his role.

Smedts - thought he did some nice things and provided some outside run.

C Curnow - Looks a bit laconic, tried at times but looks a bit lost out there, needs to keep working hard and doing the team things like chasing more. May lack a little mobility in a midfield that is already little tall.

White - put in a solid performance down back without setting the world on fire.

Macreadie - having to play on smaller more mobile players because we are so tall but is doing ok.

Pickett - Lacking fitness, has pace and skill but looked a bit lost. Needs games.

Armfield - bit of a nothing game, isn't the jet he used to be.

The more I think about it the closer I come to the conclusion that SOSOS and Weiters should be our KPFs for the foreseeable future.

Our tall timber down back more than held its own, keep all the lads where they are for a good run of games. Let them learn together.

Yep. We might be hoping for a more flexible and nimble back 6.

I think we need all the drive we can get from defence.

You're a legend, Wookie.

Just watching our highlights, I understand it is all doom-and-gloom in these parts at the moment, but I'm asking us all to have a think about what BB is doing.

We got 6 goals from our KPFs (SOSOS could have had another), whilst our KPDs kept their KPFs relatively quiet. We have the skeleton of a team. It needs fleshing out, badly...but the foundations are there.

What we're screaming out for is midfield goals. It would be great if MK could chip in with two every week, but we need Murph/Gibbs/Crippa/Ed etc etc to lift in this department.

Addendum...just doing some footywire mooching as I sit here with my morning coffee...

We got 38 goals in total from our KPFs last year (that includes Rowe and Weitering with 2 each), so 34 really.

Imagine the psychological impact of that number being bumped up to 100-odd.

Ad. Ed. We kicked 219 goals last year...just under 10 per game. Really hope we can get this up to 12-13 a game in 2017.
