Round 10 Trades

Dont have him as DPP

The way i see it, Petrie will not be in my side come Round 22, so whenever i can trade him is fine, and it so happens to be that this week is fine
Petrie is actually not all that far off being a forward keeper. Excluding Scott Stevens (who has only played 2 games) and Tom Lynch (no way a GC rookie will continue a 90+ average), Petrie is 13th on average for forwards at 87ppg.

He will be the last person on my team that ill upgrade, if i do indeed decide to upgrade.

NO !

What I have learnt over the years of playing Dreamteam is that you must SELECTIVELY PICK AND CHOOSE your rookies. You have to get into the mindset that you can not get all of them.

I know it's tempting to go for them all - but in all seriousness - you are guaranteed to dig yourself into a hole, trades are absolutely golden and to trade in and out all the rookies performing well to premiums absolutely thrashes your trades.

Doesnt matter how much cash can potentially be made, if you don't budget your trades then having all that spare cash is useless. First 2 years of Dreamteam I thought I was doing great - until the business end of the season rolls on around and I have a bench full of bloated cash cows and/or injured premiums - with no trades left!

anyway just some advice .. pick and choose and dont go for them all, I have left Hibberd and I. Smith out of my plans, for example, this year. Currently ranked 200th .. down from 30th last week :( .. took a beating from Tappy

It's not always black and white. I have Swallow and Harris who I want to give at least 1 more game to and will probably get traded next week. If I do two downgrades this week I will definitely be doing two upgrades next week, otherwise it wil be one upgrade/downgrade each week. It all depends on what premiums are at this week, but the availability of the good rookies on the bubble this week is tempting because otherwise there may not be options next week. I'm not looking for these rookies I bring in to make lots of money but the likelyhood of games for the rest of the season so I have more cover. I have 17 trades left at the moment.

Still I am most likely to go Tapscott>Lynch and Liberatore>Montagna

^^^^^^^^^^

yer .. the main point I was tryin to express was that you simply can't go for every rookie that looks good on the bubble .. you just simply have to pick and choose .. usually the ones to pick are those position players that align to your downgrades that are at ceiling, or close to ceiling price

Timing is a big factor too .. Ive gone Jacobs simply because Hibberd was out of sync to my planned trades. both DEF/MID players .. With byes and the seemingly abundance of rookies being fielded by teams .. the DPP players stand out amongst the crop as being most desirable (and they also seem to be the best performers coincidently?)

Pick and choose is the main message

(I have Swallow and Harris too .. and Libba .. when the time is right .. Harris will be traded down - most likely to Mzungu, so he can switch with Chapman in the forward line (Already have Sylvia and Prestia swapable) - I have Pendles n Swan so when the Collingwood bye comes I have options for coverage .. Anyway .. Harris down Libba up .. to premium .. Selwood/Mitchell etc .. Swallow will be 7th mid on bench, or on field to cover byes - chose him over Libba because he will play every game and the Suns have already had their 2 byes)

What's the most preferable?

Stanley to Jacobs
Libba to Montagna

or

Matera to Lynch
Stanley/L.Thompson to Suckling (Note: I start Lower/Stanley so Suckling will start instead of them, and I don't start Matera - just thought of trading him as he won't go up heaps more)

or

Matera to Lynch
JRiewoldt to Franklin/Fyfe

Libba is my "weakest" midfielder, Thompson my weakest defender (lower starts so if I get another premium defender, libba will be the only rookie on the field), and Riewoldt is probably my "weakest" forward. I'm leaning towards the top one or getting Suckling in, then next week might be able to get Mzungu in for someone, then getting an Ablett or someone in for Libba.

Thoughts?

What are people doing with Higgins?

Even if selected i am tempted to trade him out due to his softness and the fact he is always injured.

Most likely going to do Tapscott ---> Lynch, Higgins ----> Fyfe/Goodes/Chappy

Team has fallen apart this past fortnight. Dropped from 1000 to 6500 in two weeks. :(

Not sure what's happened but this week will probably do:
Curnow - Jacobs
Matera - Lynch
to finance two big upgrades next week.

Dawes, Didak, Higgins have been disastrous. Will persevere with Didak but the other two are giving me big headaches. Knights and Darling performing just as well or better.

Sorry for knocking you off this week! :p

FWIW, I reckon your backline is pretty good (complete almost) but you definitely need to add some proven guns to your midfield asap then top up your forward line.

Looking at Out Tapscott, In Brennan. Risky but Brennan will play the entire season now with no byes and generally does not get tagged by opposition. Could be a very good 4th/5th man in the forward line for DT.

Thoughts?

Agreed, Higgins is frustrating but is it really worth the trade given youve held on to him this long? I have him also and plan on retaining him as that 6th/7th man in the forward line.

What are people's thoughts on Ablett?

I'm looking at a midfield or forward upgrade to premium this week and was going to go him, but open to other suggestions. Was going to fund it by downgrading someone to Tom Lynch.

Get him in. Will get you a 100 average and no byes for rest of year.

Well thats the thing.

I have held onto him all this time, but if he is gonna keep getting injured and play like crap, then maybe it is worth the trade?

Guess i will make my mind up later in the week. If he isn't named, then i am almost certain i will give him the flick.

I upgraded to ablett last week (whoops!) but on the basis that he's dropped 100k, and after scorign 150 last game still dropped a little bit. Which means hes knocked out the expectation and his break even has dropped (i think its around 80 this week?) so in terms of value, i think this would be the best deal youll get on him. Looking forward to inserting him in the lineup at the expense of Kerr.

Now i need help! Desperately! I've only won one game, so the season is probably over for me. But it's really starting to piss me off now i want to at least win another 5 games for the year.
I'm stuck with Robert ****ing murphy. Has been avg so far this year and in the last 2 weeks has fallen off the planet. Should i trade him out now and cut my losses? My backline well and truly sucks and i blame him for taking up so much cap with so little return.

I've also got Bartel who ill probably keep this week only because of GC, but he hasnt been doing too well either.
I think it might me time to move Dawes on as well. But i only have 12 trades left! I am in the deep.

Two players i could do with some opinions on. Bartel and Rioli. Rioli looks set to return to the forward line which could damage his scoring pretty badly and Bartel looks to be playing mainly as a half forward. Fairly sure I will hang onto Bartel because he can score big but ATM he is killing me!

I'm ranked outside the top 10000 after 3 shocking weeks so need to take some risks. Was thinking of taking a punt on Lecras as a unique. Last two games have been good dt wise and he is playing more of a midfield role this year which could see him keep up his good scores. Pretty big risk but he could be a good unique pick.

If Petrie can maintain his 87ppg average he would most certainly be a keeper. Anyone who thinks that every one of their starting 7 forwards will all average over 90+ by the end of the year will be disappointed.

Some of the forwards who are currently averaging 95+ could tail off over the last month and end up averaging 80 something for all anyone knows.

Petrie averaged 84 in 2008 & 87 in 2009 before missing most of last year. No reason why he won't get his current 87 average to 90+ as he works his fitness level up.

Petrie is a definite non trade for me (barring injury). I have Joel Tippett at R4 so Petrie's flexibility and scoring is almost irreplaceable. Sandi will be rested latter in the season (not to mention injured now) and Petrie will fill in nicely. (I also have Smith at R3, may down grade to Bailey next week for the final piece of my premium midfield)

my midfield is in dire need of an upgrade. i have enough cash for anybody, so its just a matter of who. i only have Swan boyd and Bartel in the mids, and im tossing up between Selwood, Montagna and Ablett. i would mind the extra $50k ablett gets me over selwood, but i have doubts over his scoring ability. Thoughts?

I'd go either Montagna or Ablett, 2 cats on the same line (if you play 2nd week of finals) could be costly.

Not 100% sure what I'll do this week. I think it's time for Petrie to come off the ruck bench so I'll probably go Tapscott -> Lobbe/J. Tippett and switch them, and then trade Foley -> Boyd. Will probably change my mind a few times between now and friday though :)

Richardson to Smith
Swallow to Ablett

next week
Krak to Rookie
Libba to Pendlebury

Week after
Batchelor to Rookie
Stanley/Lower to Deledio.

Leave me with 10 trades probably one backline updgrade left which I will leave till I can offload Z Smith.

did a double downgrade last week....

Getting rid of Higgins after 3 years of picking him (never again) and going
Higgins >> Chapman
Atley >> Pendlebury

Next week hopefully
McKernan >> Mzungu
Libertore >> Premium Mid (Ablett)

Team should then be complete (pending Watson's return) with Darling, Lower, Petrie and keeping Heppell, to be potentially upgraded having only 12 trades left though and not much cash to play with
