B: Goddard (c), Waite, Fisher, Cornes, Raines, Grimes, Malceski (Petrenko, Suban)
M: Gibbs, Judd (vc), Selwood, Coughlan, Ablett, Griffen (Rich, Tuck)
R: Cox, Gardiner (Jacobs, Spencer)
F: Deledio, Rioli, J Brown, Sidebottom, Walker, Higgins, Ziebell (Krakouer, Skipworth)

What the blazes to do with this lot?
I’ve got a bit of pain to go through before everything’s fixed up methinks.

On the plus side I’ve got $378K in the bank with 15 trades left. So, I need an aggressive trade plan over the next three weeks. Leave myself with 9 trades and some cash in reserve for the remaining games.

It of course depends on teams tomorrow, but on current form/injury/value loss I have to move on Petrenko, Tuck, Higgins, Walker, Raines, and of course poor Jarrad.

Krakouer and Tuck stand to lose the most value this week, so if they’re named, they should probably go first. Then come Raines, Walker, Higgins and Petrenko. Waite I don’t have to move on straight away of course, but his $500K will come in handy somewhere in these calculations.

Tuck would be annoying, as I don’t really need to do much to the midfield (touch wood) just yet, and many of the chaps I’ve got my eye on look like they might drop in value, so I’d rather wait. There’s not much to downgrade to at the moment- Muston looked the goods, but if I can leave him for another week, excellent.

If all of them were dropped it would make my choice a little easier. I need to start focussing on the guys who are a chance to jump in value and go for them first I think: Porplyzia, Buddy, Drummond and Sewell of those on my A list.

Or should I aim towards another downgrade or two and really fill the coffers? Wright should play a few more games according to my Roos spy, and with any luck Broughton will be back, so I could bring them in and risk another bad round (I’m playing the leader of the league this week- don't expect to win, but would like to stay inside the top 10K overall, which might be tricky).

Any early advice/comments?

Got $901k for a back and a forward. Thinking Buddy ($464k- ave:91), would leave me $431k to settle on a defender. Some options:

1) P Burgoyne ($417k- ave: 89.7) Poor lately though, ave 113 the first 3 rounds, missed 2 weeks and has come back with 54, 57, 105 & 75??
2) Adcock ($388k- ave: 82.5) Ave skewed by a 144 in Rd 3, but last 3 weeks 72, 74, 106
3) McDonald ($370k- ave: 77.9) Left-field selection, started string with 139, shocking in-between, 119 on the weekend.
4) Houlihan ($378k- ave: 85.8) Obviously dependent on selection.

Or I could just bring in Newman/Gilbert and go with Porps instead of Buddy???

i think you need to work on your defence and your forwards. Waite-Gun is the obvious move. You could also upgrade Krak to a super-premium forward. Or Walker to one of the cheap premium forwards going around like Buddy.

tuck-muston looks like the most obvious cash grab.

i think you are well placed. how did you get so much cash .... Hodge-Grimes?

Its a tough one man - im not sold on either of P Burgoyne/Adcock/Houli/Mcdonald - I would feel more confident taking a punt on Porpz but havent seen much of him this year

If i had to go one of those defenders i'd probably go Burgoyne

Also what are peoples thoughts on Scott Mcmahon - consistent fellla - has anyone seen him play this year ? Is he the real deal ?

Cheers Hondo.

Hill- Grimes and M Brown- Sidebum put the cash in the bank. Hodge was always on my upgrade list.

Agree with Waite-Gun (Drummond is the obvious choice, but he shouldn't rise too dramatically after this week- same goes for Bowden), but I still reckon I can hold off on that for a week. Petrenko plays this week and hits his average, he's down by $14.6K. Raines is down $17.8K. Walker- $16K.

Perhaps I can drop one to a rookie and one to a soft upgrade- Buddy as you mentioned, Adcock is ridiculously cheap at the moment, or Porps (those three are most likely rising in value this week), then bump two more up next week. Most of the guys I want up forward are due to drop, even with a good game- Roo should go down next week, and Pav will almost certainly the week after. I've missed the Neon Leon boat for now- maybe later in the season.

I'm worried that this is still playing safe though- when should I start busting out and taking a few risks I wonder?

First of all that is geek as:p
Second you would have to update it each week based on your opponenets trade which would take ages, how long did that take you to do?

What ever time it takes to:
1) Open Excel
2) Open file "SCLEAGUEPLANNER.xls"
3) Run Macro
4) Wait 79 seconds for macro to update all the teams

So in total about 2 min :thumbsu:

But I agree, pretty geeky, but I do this sort of stuff every day for work so it's easy as.

u going for a league result or trying to move up overall? it has a huge bearing on your decision making here.

True, true. The league is probably more important, but also should be easier- there are quite a few, erm, part-timers competing in it. There's only one guy we all want to beat-the three-time defending champion. I was well-placed to do it last year but fell at the preliminary final.

As far as overall goes, I'd like to think I've got a reasonable handle on this game now, and would like my standing to reflect that. I'm currently 9063rd, down from somewhere around 900th after round 3.

got an idea that might be a little greedy, but maybe i can't help myself.

i have higgins, covered with either walker or brown. those two supercoach rookie spuds.

got gilbee and chapman, i'll wait, the idea is

trade either hill or dawson to broughton if he is named

then tuck to ablett.

leaving me with very little money. but midfield nearly complete. midfield nds judd ablett selwood gibbs

i would still have 9 trades left and would willingly keep playing a few youngsters, so in an ideal world, 6th and 7th defender grimes and one of the above.

6th midfielder rich

7th forward ziebell for now.

thoughts???? please let me know.

Very similar to me. Have Gilbee, Higgins, Chappy also.

I also have Walker & Brown on the bench and my thinking is put Brown on the field for Chappy and leave Higgins hoping he plays with Walker as emerg cover for him.

Looks like Gilbee is a good chance to play, my back rookies are Grimes (7th def ATM) Petrenko, Hurley and Rance.

Looking at Petrenko > McMahon (Ave 96, $451,000) who will be 6th defender. Leaving Hurley & Rance as bench warmers. Rance is a chance to return also and l would have him as cover for Gilbee.

At this stage of the season with blokes dropping like flies i believe you should hold off trades like Higgins for an extra week. He could still be 100+ keeper.

yeah understand your theory with people dropping like flies.

i will keep higgins. and chapman. gilbee i hope plays but if broughton isn't named i will trade hill for grima. so i can still get rid of tuck for g ablett.

hopefully the bad scoring of the last two rounds ends.

quick one guys.

which combination would you choose (worth more points, less likely to get injured or suspended, etc):

coughlan + m.brown

versus

muston + higgins

its a tough one for me and will dictate my trade sequence starting this week..

injury free you'd think muston + higgins.. but im just not sure.

i had higgins pencilled in as a keeper damnit..

obv you know what the issues are. points/risk v lower points/less risk.

it really depends what you are trying to acheive, whether or not you want to take the risks and what your opinions are regarding Muston/Higgins chance of reinjuring themselves

that really helped. :p

I want to get rid of Higgins this week for either Okeefe or Simon Goodwin, which do you guys think will have the best 2nd half of the season?

Thanks

Definitely coughlan + m.brown for now. Though I assume you would be looking to upgrade these players down the track.

Higgins in my opinion is too big a risk to hold onto to. I copied this from the 'Is Higgins a keeper?' thread as to my reasons why;

"The thing with Higgins is that he is likely to drop a lot of value if his recent performances are anything to go by. If you give him a few more weeks he might have lost you a lot of value.

With players such as Buddy, ROK, J Brown has bottomed out this week or next, Gia, Fev bottom out this week........they will not likely be ever this low again this season. So it could hurt you if Higgins drops value and you miss a relatively cheap upgrade to one of these players.

The main reasons I got rid of him was;
a) injury worry
b) if you have a look at his scoring this year his 3x100+ scores came against Fre (in Rd1 when they were beyond horrific), WCE and Richmond (when they were beyond a joke). His scoring takes a battering when he is up against better, more accountable sides.
c) Cooney getting over his injuries and increasing his midfield minutes will likely keep hurting Higgins.
d) hard draw coming up"

They are both fantastic players. You will not go wrong with either.

I chose O'Keefe (younger) as he has lost a lot more value and seemed to be a better 'bargain price' but he has since gone up a fair bit.

Due to lack of trades either Cogs or Higgins have to be a keeper.

So you see my dilema. :(

if it was only that combination i would go M. Brown ( Eagles i presume ) / Coughlin.

BUT if you are not so desperate re FWDs how about Sam Wright from Nths 94,200 average 61 ( though Campbell may be back soon but Wright is going ok ) Wright has played 2 games and his price will increase this week or

Ballantyne 94,200 in a week or 2 he will play though u never know with new players how they will go .

So then you have 491,000 to upgrade your mid to say maybe Boyd but he is 496,500 av 109.44 ( u need spare cash for him )

there are good buys about re that price of 491,000 ie Ray av 97.56 , Mcveigh from Sydney av 97 . 22 etc etc

its just a matter of where you want your team to go .

or Porps for Higgins

is Higgins in your forward line? If he is then he is a straight swap for Fev. Ratten has said that he will return him to the goal square from now on so he should be back to averaging 85+ (ie, 20 one week and 150 the next :D). I see him as a much safer bet than keeping Higgins.

With the money you make from Higgins to Fev......you can upgrade Cogs to Kane Cornes.

Higgins + Cogs OR Kornes + Fev .......I know which two I would take mate;).

2 trades used....no money.

thinking maybe walker > wright
then either
Hurn > Drummond
OR
Higgins > any fwd apart from davis and riewoldt.

would this be a smart trade? would only leave me with 9 trades which im not a fan of
