Or maybe they feel like Begg being monstered by Darcy and Lobb wouldn’t provide anything constructive for his development.
He’s young. He has time. There’s no need to throw him in the deep end right now.

Chiefly that Begg is not ready yet. I don't think there's much to gain from playing him in this weird role that he has little experience in. Going back to the VFL and spending some time working as either a KPF or a KPD would be a better use of his skills I reckon.

The idea of that gorilla Darcy getting a hold of Begg is not a nice one.

Funnily enough the last time Grundy was injured he rucked against Paddy Ryder and broke even, and then absolutely demolished Geelong the next week.
And before you say “That was 5 years ago omg so irrelevant!” You’re the one who asked the flipping question.

Throw a tantrum about it if you want, but don’t expect to convince people by doing it.

If he goes back to the twos he will ruck there. But let’s reinvent the wheel

The game where Ryder had 31 hit outs 5 clearances and a goal. To 25 hit outs and a clearance?

Your continuous disapproval of Cox is becoming irrational. It comes through in just about every post you make about Cox (there are 3 on the previous page of this thread alone). I'm starting to wonder if the big fella has done something personally against you or your family to lead you on an apparent vendetta?

Because stats tell the whole story. And it was his first game as ruck, in his first season of footy. Funny that you neglected to talk about the 43 hitout, 6 mark, 2 goal game he had the next week, or does it only count if he’s going up against the best ruckman in the league?

Since when has Ryder ever been the best ruckman in the comp and he debuted in 2016 lol

It’s time for the club to move on. Do you get this triggered when any other player on the list gets criticised?
 
Cox is our best bet to cover for Grundy until he recovers. Logically, he should have been the first one tried when the injury occurred, but we gave Begg a go instead. That was worth doing, because in a year when we won't achieve much, we have had a look at Begg's capacities. We have seen enough to know he is well worth keeping, that he is probably not going to be a ruckman, and that the big guys overwhelm him. Now he needs some time in the VFL to grow into a role either as a forward or back. Perhaps he could become one of those versatile players that never get fixed in position, but manage to cover all sorts of spots as needed. Goldsack or Blicavs come to mind, or a very good player that Port Adelaide had whose name I forget.

We kept Cox for this eventuality, and we should use him. I was very impressed with the way he bullocked his opponents off the ball at throw ins last week. This was the weak point in his ruckwork in previous years. We can't lose sight of the need to put the best team we have on the park each week. Cameron is OK as second ruck, but can't do the job for extended periods. Perhaps Cox can't either, but he is the best chance on our active list. If he can break even with the Freo rucks, he will have done well. (If he is selected. I hope he is). He is the one most likely to do so.

pretty simple really if you can get over your pathalogical hate for Cox - Begg is to young, and unprepared for the continous and unrelenting demands of AFL.
He'll get smashed this week against Darcy, and we stand no chance by getting beaten in the Ruck again.
Cox has performed well enough in the VFL to deserve a call up.

Begg is far better off staying in the VFL, and gaining skills and confidence, which was exactly the plan for 2022 until Grundy got injured.

He was the AA ruck in 2017, by definition, the best in the comp at the time.
