Threw that game away in the coaches’ box and selection table. Every single poster on this board could see that Frampton should have played back and Howe forward. Kreuger would have given a lot more than AJ for that matter.

Just a waste of a game. Clown college stuff. We can’t afford to be giving games away by putting our players in impossible positions. What happened to setting our players up to succeed? So poor.
I think this was one game where match committee got it wrong picking the team and where they played. I reckon in hindsight they will internally acknowledge this after Freddie kicked a few goals earlier today.

I would have played Freddie and AJ in F50 and Billy and Howe in D50 and left Dean out.

All that aside, still believe with better conversion early we win that game. A missed opportunity.

So much to unpack in this game and it gets more frustrating the more you think about it because the Dogs really aren't a very good side...at all

- First quarter is where the game was ultimately lost regardless of anything else that took place. That was one of the best quarters we've played for the season. We dominated the Dogs in a way I haven't seen since the first quarter of Round 1, 2020. To go into quarter time only 17 points up was bitterly disappointing. Doesn't help the umps gave them two freebies to keep them in touch

- Umpiring in the last quarter was deplorable. It was fairly mediocre all night but that last quarter was one for the ages. They went out of their way to ensure there would be no come back regardless

- Some fairly poor coaching on the night. We lost 2 goals purely to the Dean/Darcy mismatch. Charlie Dean is simply not tall enough to defend Darcy so it's unfair to pot him for it. Blame the coach for not leaving Frampton on him. Ash Johnson has rucked capably before, he could have done it again and at least it would have involved him in the game

- John Noble...I just, wow. Last time I saw him play that poorly was coincidentally the Bulldogs game in 2022 where they pumped us by 48 or whatever. I just don't think I've seen him play THAT poorly since we recruited him. Even the ONE good thing he did was a complete accident. He was kicking for goal and miskicked it and it fell into Hill's arms. He wasn't even trying to pass it

- Tonight was clearly the injury tipping point and I think we knew it. We tried to end the game in the first quarter clearly knowing we wouldn't have the legs in the last. That's even despite the Dogs being a man down on the bench for over half the game. We're now simply carrying too many VFL players

- Apologies. I was wrong about Fin Macrae. I've defended him long enough but I have to jump off tonight. He's quite clearly not AFL standard. If he couldn't find a way to have any influence tonight - particularly given our first quarter dominance, then he never will

- Bytel showed us all why St.Kilda didn't want him. He wouldn't even get a game at St.Kilda right now and St.Kilda are terrible

We were basically carried by the Daicos brothers and Darcy Cameron. Those three almost dragged us over the line.

The more you think about how poorly the vast majority of the 23 played, it's almost surprising we only lost by 3 goals

He cost us 3 or 4 goals from his direct turnovers, it was a terrible game

So did Cameron with his every time I get the ball I have to kick it philosophy often a turn over.
He near on always ignores midfielders streaming past for the handball and tries to rush snap it out the contest or does a little dinky shit kick to oppo 3m away in clear...

I wish one of the coaching group would tell him to give the handball off to runners.

Yes he is overall playing well and his around ground marking has come along very well but that part of his game needs fixing and it is costly both in creating goals for them and often shitting the bed for us on attack.

Fin lacks weapons.
He does have the quick hands in close that generally picks out the best option out of the congestion. Similar to HH in that sense. But no pace unlike HH.

I would like to see him get more opportunities in centre bounce attendances like Sullivan and see if he can translate his VFL clearance form to AFL.

Hilarious to read intelligent posters so confidently stating we got it wrong at selection, and in the coaches box.

The arrogance is staggering.

Only six months off a flag and so many think they know better.

What a joke.

McCreery had 14 tackles and 8 disposals as a full time midfielder. He tries his guts out but we were a man down all game in the centre square. You can't carry players in the midfield that can't find the ball.

The only footy IQ he has is to chase and tackle. You can only play that type of player in the forward line. Hopefully Fly has learnt that and ends this experiment immediately.

I like him in there for small periods, he shakes it up a bit and adds a hard edge. Absolutely nailed a few of the dogs mids in there, but yes needs to work on getting it more.

Winning a flag doesn't make them infallible.

Nor does being a regular punter mean you can't have a good idea or be right on some things at times.

Jmac it's ok to question things in fact it's healthy. Stops you from becoming a lemming and keeps people accountable.

So, what should we have done differently?
Like a true new age fascist. Ban when an opinion doesn't suit you. Hail Jmac
Toothy, do I know you?

How can you defend the AJ selection and leaving Dean on Darcy?

Cmon jmac.

Maynard, McCreery or even Crisp all capable of running interference on Bontempelli's targeting of Nick.

Crisp & McCreery seemed to have midfield rotations in the last and didn’t seem able to do it. I think you’re underselling how good Bont is and how good his last quarter was. He’s done the same to some very good midfields in the past.

Disappointed after our first quarter. I believe that's 3 games where we've dominated for long periods but haven't put the scoreboard pressure on and missed some easy shots. Freo last week, 1st quarter this week and the bombers late.

I know we don't have many fit players but Markov playing forward was a waste. Should've been on a wing or back. Bytel couldn't get a gig at the saints and seen why tonight not up to it.

AJ doesn't have the tank to be an afl player.

Frampton was no where as a forward, Schultz had Jones and with Dean needing to get stronger but I think he is an afl footballer long term Frampton back would've helped with their talls.

We've seen a lot of positives from the younger guys recently and it's very good for us long term. I think Long can help us too from the MSD. We gave up as Dimma would say "sh!t goals tonight" which is why I think Noble was subbed out he can butcher the footy at times.

10 day break hopefully get some cattle back for Melbourne but aim to have key players back post bye for a good run home into finals. Kruger has to play next week he will give us more then AJ I think he won't be on our list next year with Ryan.

Onwards and upwards let's not get to feral at our club we are going to be okay in the end.

Seriously can't knock our coaches with players we had to work with and match up on. Howe needed to play tall down back. Dean, Moore and Howe had their hands full with their talls.

Seriously Ugle Hagan, Darcy, Naughton, and Croft! Can we please have just one!
No, not lobb - he failed tonights job interview.

Frampton move down back? So who spells Cameron in the ruck like Frampton was doing tonight. He played the Cox role in a structured team.

Johnson in the ruck? Confidence is not there right now. Not even contesting marks forward.

We rotated at least eight players through the midfield tonight. Tried everyone except Maynard who was needed down back. And yes we tried players like macrae - isn't that what you were all screaming out for giving him a chance at it.

Both Daicos boys, Maynard, Cameron and macrae all got some pretty heavy knocks during the game. So were entitled to run out of legs.

Krueger, who I like, did not set the VFL on fire like others say. He kicked three easy goals but did not look ready for AFL. He may play next week and watch this space for meltdowns.

Look back over injury games Pendles misses. Look how many we lose. Its significant. We have a tough few weeks without him. He is an on field coach.

We NEED Mcstay to win the flag this year and we need Eyre to be a surprise inclusion. Fingers crossed.

Umpires and Marvel? Not even going there.

Praise to the players and coaches. Gave us hope and a bloody good effort tonight against a decent team.

Finally and this may surprise you, I have no faith that any poster on this board could have coached better despite the opinions expressed!! 🤣

“Frampton back, Howe forward, Markov back, mcreery where?” so funny. No clue.

AJ is better than Krueger.
Dean was OK, looks a player.
We were just undermanned.

So, what should we have done differently?

Toothy, do I know you?

I already agreed with others and offered some of my own views.

Krueger should of played.
Markov should of played defense or if must be forward tagged Dale.
Frampton to Darcy.
Howe forward.
After the 2nd quarter I would of ran interference on Bont stopping Nick. McCreery used as run with role.
Steele to HFF in 2nd half swapped with Markov. Steele butchering it and Markov has no clue fwd.

Just a few things I would of liked to see, however can understand them backing in what they planned and work they have done till now.

Lots of great ideas and good on you for sharing.
The coach made his moves and we almost won.
I’ll take that.

Noble was having a dog of a game and probably contributed directly to the margin we suffered in the end, but surely there were like eight or nine other players you’d sub before him. What the ****

They did not once try to impede him/block him or stop him getting over to Nick of which he was doing said tactics to Nick (some illegally and ump turned a blind eye to it).

Playing in the midfield, and hunting the ball or minding others is not specifically doing a defensive/physical job on Bontempelli.

And just when we got some momentum those yellow morons pulled bull** free kicks out of their **

To be honest, trying not to play that card. We didn't even look likely in the final 1/4. I just think playing half a side has finally caught up with us. Had to eventually.
