Beau disappoints again. After 70 games, he needs to do more.

These glimpses aren't enough anymore.
You realise that he just had the highest rated individual pressure game (100.3) of any AFL player this season, and an all time club record 14 tackles?
Might not have got as many kicks as you'd like, but he was doing the heavy lifting for Daicos to run riot in the first half.

On the Bulldogs Board, a Melbourne fan stated “I only wish Darcy hit Maynard harder” and the Melbourne Board saying they should start a Sam Darcy appreciation thread.

The crying demon fans should stfu from here on. F’n hypocrites.
Grubs.

The thing they’re missing is that the force of the impact doesn’t always equate to the outcome. A bloke with a history of concussion is more susceptible to any hit. If Darcy had of hit Murphy with the same force a concussion would have resulted. It’s also a weird quirk in the mro penalty, Darcy would have got 6 weeks had a concussion resulted.

That was my initial impression and assumedly what the umpire thought. But nah, he grabbed Nick's arm and he dropped the ball. Free kick.

I’ve watched the replay multiple times now and I’m still not really convinced. He reaches around Nick and knocks his arm and the ball spills free before he executes anything that could be called a tackle. If I was a Bulldogs fan I would absolutely be screaming “ball”, but I can also see why it wasn’t paid. If it was a marking contest you’d say his arms were chopped.

While I believe we made a couple of errors last night surrounding selection and implementation I think most of us knew entering the week that our chances of winning were 50/50 at best and that's before we even got the news on Pendlebury.

Alas his omission on top of everyone else was probably the tipping point we just couldn't recover from despite a valiant effort.

If you do an exercise featuring the most noteworthy omissions then you quickly realise the challenges we face.

FF: Elliott, McStay, McInnes
HF: Richards, Mihocek, Hoskin-Elliott
C: Pendlebury
FB: Murphy (retired)
Foll: Cox, De Goey, Mitchell

The penalties have gone out of whack because they're now giving higher penalties at the tribunal than the MRO guidelines. So if it falls just short of going to the tribunal there's a huge discrepancy in outcome.

Plus they're announcing MRO too early and haven't adjusted for delayed concussion.

I thought we'd win until Pendles was out meaning it was not just a weak forward line - the midfield was too lean as well.

And as much they bleat about Maynard ending Angus's career, there were no tears shed for all the bumps Murphy suffered which often went uncommented on by those calling the game. Also Nathan is four years younger than Angus so has missed a greater slice of his career.

My take is knocked out in the tackle - play on - really means stripped. And the hitting of the arm was part of the tackle.

Nick Daicos has simply reached the superstar status where if there’s any doubt they won’t pay it against him.

While there were dubious calls both ways, that one you mention of Nick was the most blatant HTB free kick of the year. Mistakes happen by the umps, it’s a hard game to officiate, but there’s absolutely no way you can defend that apart from chalking it up to the umpire’s vision being blocked by a player.

That 100 metre penalty was a cracker……

Ok.
I've been busy riding from Prague to Dresden!
D Cameron is a really good player.
Sargent Schultz (Germany ironic!) Is getting better!
The number 35 might come good eventually.
Our captain needs to go into the ruck or forward..
Or stop social

I agree with your points, but it was one off our tackle record of 15 (Elliott, Treloar and Greenwood have all achieved that).
Luke Ball, and the great Chris Mayne have 14 too, so Beau’s 14 puts him on the top 6, or equal 4th.

Looked like Nick was pushed in the back.

AFL equalisation policy?

When it was Geelong they received an even better run from the umps. Heck Stevie J was practically an umpire during games.

It is clear that the defender with any semblance of arms around the forward is a free kick. Has been paid in pretty much every game. It's just a shame that this happens when Mason Cox is injured. Funny that.

We have some forwards who are excellent at leading up and clunking a mark in that wing-HB position. Thinking Checkers, McStay, Cox, WHE, and Elliott. None were out there which left Johnson often competing 1-out against Jones, O’Donnell and Keath with some assistance from Frampton and Cameron. Neither Howe nor Kreuger would have given us a sufficient boost to overcome the midfield dominance of the Doggies after quarter time.
It’s not the lead up marks for me, rather the ability to compete in dump kick scenarios where a player just needs to make a contest at least to maintain field position. Johnson’s second efforts if he doesn’t mark the ball seem to be non-existent.

I would have been pissed at that non-call if I was a Dogs supporter, no doubt.

Much like I was pissed that Darcy was deemed to have marked that kick from Treloar which travelled maybe 8 or 9m.

Both were nigh on indefensible.

It’s also his influence on the aerial contest.

For example as a defender, and as they highlighted on the coverage for Maynard at one point, if you go to the contest you have to influence the contest, otherwise the ball gets to the back and your player is no longer accounted for.

In the forward line in our system, you’re expected to either mark the ball, or spoil the ball and get it to ground for Bobby/Beau/HH/Billy/etc. But Ash was just trailing the aerial contest by metres, having no impact at all.

No-one should reasonably expect Ash to be pulling down those marks regularly, but if you’re going to make a living on uncontested or one-on-one stuff, you need to be very fast on the lead like Rusling was, run all day like N Riewoldt used to, or have Inspector Gadget arms like a King twin. Ash can’t do any of that.
