It would be easy to sit here and be critical but I won't.

Not surprised by the result, but like others thought we didn't attack more in the last quarter.

I thought the Dogs guns were just that little bit better. Bont, AT, and Dale especially.

Unfortunately, our bottom 6-8 players just didn't impact enough.

Still proud of the team. Gutsy effort.
Bont was huge in the last, but I still think Nick was BOG. Difference was nobody went with him, he was a lone hand. 27 contested possessions and 16 clearances with a hard tag all night. Plus the 2 goals… epic performance.

can’t win games when when you don’t play any offense in a last quarter. 2 weeks in a row it’s lost us the game and we got lucky against the crows.
That’s on the coaches, it’s clearly instructed and it needs to change.

It’s not on the coaches, the last qtr was the accumulation of our injuries, a bunch of games in a row finishing with a bench of 1 or 2, multiple 6 day breaks along with Johnson and Markov as your key forwards.

It was incredibly annoying to watch that last qtr knowing we were just cooked and the dogs get an undeserved win.

yep, we need to somehow stay within striking distance of the 8 until the troops arrive. - top 4 is gone.
Yea, no chance of top 4 and top 8 is on the line.
Clearly, our system works, especially at the G.
This loss will sting the boys but we just don’t have the quality to beat Melbourne.

Find a way to beat North and come home with a wet sail to finish with a home elimination finals.

From there, you just never know.

Gutsy effort but poor goal kicking in Q1 and too many cooked youngsters in Q4 was the difference. Incredible effort really with 17 players unavailable.

I’m not sold on Dean at all and continue to wonder what the Fin Macrae fan club sees in him - no impact from his 11 touches and only 1 handball in Q4. Nowhere near good enough from a 4th year wannabe-midfielder.

Next week drop Dean, push Frampton back to defence and bring in Kreuger.

No spin can’t whinge about Finns lack of game time tonight. Very limited player who won’t make it

It's pretty clear that we have way too many players who can't run out the game strongly which is why we aren't playing well in the last quarter. Even a guy like Sullivan went missing I'm the last.

Super proud of the effort, we had our starting on ball brigade from the GF out, Checkers, McStay, Elliott, WHE and then the likely second tier players Richards and McInness. It's too much. No team in the comp is winning games with 10 of their best 23-24 out. This is not even talking about losing Murphy before the season.

McRae is a no from me, Noble gifted them about 3 or 4 goals, but fought back I thought, so was surprised he was subbed. If there is no injury then McRae has made an error there. We lacked run.

Bytes very vanilla. Sullivan just OK, Ash very ordinary, Markov should have moved behind the ball earlier to give us bounce because he ain't a forwards arseh*le. Frampton, very poor as anything but a key defender.

Finally, Nick Daicos. Thanks for being able to watch you and just marvel at the brilliance.

Wtf.
This group won a flag 13 games ago, you don’t win a flag unless you are ruthless and a desire and hunger to win.
New season this year.

You need to evolve.

You continually invite teams back into games because you can't finish or take your foot off the pedal, you will eventually get your just deserts.

Last year was great, but this year has seen the wheel turn a bit more when we doze off.

My two cents, we needed to move the footy quicker and shorter and break it up.
We bombed long where Jones and co just killed us.
It was the only option with no height forward, spot up kicks from overlapping players inside 50 was the way to go but we played into their hands going long.
Pretty tricky to do with so many young kids.

Why would the change a formula that's been successful?

The Dogs got away with throwing the ball all night, was the crowd throw on roids. Fast small rugby throws, one handed throws and just handing the ball over on tackles. Only got 1 given in the last Q...

Also the amount of times Bontempelli (and others) got away with grabbing and spinning Nick Daicos as he was running through the contest and not get done for a hold was a absolute piss take.

There was one stoppage that Macrea just put the double under hooks on Nick and ran him from ones side to the other out of the stoppage ring before the ball had even landed.

Beyond that some shocking kicking by Noble, Sidebottom and Cameron was very costly. Schultz first term kicking gettable goals as points.

No KPF targets killed us. Markov is a defender and that is all.

And finally a brave effort to fight it out but looked like the mids were dead on thier feet in that last Q.

Treloar got them back on it in the 2nd.
Noble turnover king
Remember Phillips. $500k a year
Turnover
They DON'T CHANGE
Pressure pressure Pressure.
Play the young ones.
Thank god they dropped him for the finals last year
pressure is finals

Oh I don't disagree at all. The kid will be (eventually) one of the all time greats.

Lost in the coaches box. Completely stifled our ball movement in the last qtr and we had no answer. Even more disappointing that Dogs had a man down and we still couldn't play the minutes.

Are you serious? It had nothing to do with the coaches, we are just spent. It should be embarrassing for them it took until the last 5mins to finish us off.

Threw that game away in the coaches’ box and selection table. Every single poster on this board could see that Frampton should have played back and Howe forward. Kreuger would have given a lot more than AJ for that matter.

Just a waste of a game. Clown college stuff. We can’t afford to be giving games away by putting our players in impossible positions. What happened to setting our players up to succeed? So poor.
I don't think switching Howe with Frampton would've made a difference. It's not like Howe's some amazing forward.

We lost the game once they got on top of the clearances. We looked like world beaters in the first quarter no matter who our forwards were when we won the clearances out the middle. Ultimately just Naicos and Crisp couldn't sustain it against Bont, Treloar and Macrae for the whole game.

Game was lost when Pendles also withdrew.

Should of buried them in the first and came back to bite us on the backside. Reality is injuries have cost us our season. We won't make top 4, so our season is shot.

I think we are good enough to do a Dogs 17. Win from outside the top 4, if we get healthy by then and make the 8 of course.

Firstly, **** the scumps.

Secondly, game lost at the selection table …

  • Markov is NOT a forward
  • Playing Billy up forward makes 0 sense. WB has a huge forward line and Billy has been arguably our best shutdown defender this year. Baffling.
  • AJ has done nothing to warrant his place in the side. I hate Kreuger but he would have offered more and needs to be in the side next week.
  • Why wasn’t Bytel subbed? Offered nothing except slow turnovers.
100% on Billy.

He could easily have been the difference. Howe would have been a way better choice up forward. Or Moore.

Umpires are destroying this game… that was disgusting!!
Great effort from the lads to fight against them all night
It was a great effort. However we have reached a tipping point with injuries. All I want from the umpires is consistency in decision making. The discrepancy in the amount of frees paid against us in defence compared to what is paid in our forward line is .......

No dare in the second half got suckered in and gave them the game on their terms.

Good effort but will go down as another missed opportunity.

Missing the early goals really cost us.
Should have had it sewn up by half time.

In the end they we too tall and we were too thin across the ground.

Limp into the bye and regroup from here.

Had to happen, we've tried hard to cover the gaps but in the end second and third string players are not going to hold up for long. There were some disappointing periods but we lost it in the first quarter through missed opportunities.

Schultz 3 goals were great but a 5 goal haul is better. Should have been 30 points up at quarter time. Gifting goals through silly mistakes/decisions have happened two weeks in a row.

what a horrible game. First quarter we needed to be up 30 points. Last quarter not taking the game on and letting Bont do whatever he wants.

Stupid.

Exactly what happened against Freo. Went completely defensive and got overrun in the last quarter and squibbed a 25 pt lead.
Tonight, went completely defensive in the last quarter, and got overrun and couldn't score!!!

Charlie Dean is not ready,
Was it a coaching strategy to ‘park the bus’ in the last quarter? Or we just didn’t have the personnel or players out there to finish off? Our injuries have not just diluted our experience, they have taken away match winners.

Rest, recuperate and get ready for Melbourne. We still have Steven May to pay back for his disrespectful comments.🙃
It’s coaching, and it needs to stop.
It’s too hard to defend for more than 5-10 mins at a time.
MCRae needs to make this adjustment quick smart, it has cost us the last 2 weeks and we got lucky the week before.
