I dont think we have built in the leadership credentials of our forward half yet. In the back half we used to have Hodge and now we have Andrews. Everyone listens and keeps an eye out for where Andrews is and positions accordingly. In our forward half Charlie is a big focus and we try to isolate him at times. We don't have a hyperdominant KPF that demands their own space like Hawkins, Lynch/Reiwoldt, Dixon etc. Quite a few times I have seen our mids or small forwards drop into McStay or Hipwood's space. I have seen Cam Raynor or Linc jump in front of a contest. It looks good when they take a grab but they also spoil out Big O/Hipwood in certain cases.

I think McStay will undergo a bit of a Tarberner redemption arc. Always seen as an almost player but finally breaking out in their later 20s and he will finally be given the space in F50 to actually run and jump to mark without 10 babymen (half from his own team) blocking him/getting in the way.

There was a report that some of the hub people have asked if they can stay in qld after the season ends. I imagine there are some, a few, players who are looking at opportunities up here so they can stay full stop.

I'd bite my tounge and take Hawkins or even Dixon but please not knucklehead lynch or sooky sooky la la Riewoldt. I know some say you can embrace anyone, but Fev showed us that just isn't true.

On the bright side of not getting tickets (yet again) is I can hide behind the couch at the tense points of the game.

😩😭😩😭

We've paid for every game at Metricon and been successful in only two ballots. Sucks
Bummer Gadz!

Last year we created a 'new' wing role and our guys consequently owned the position. Other clubs saw it and copied/countered it, so we've lost the advantage and that makes our guys look a bit ordinary. It's possible they are playing exactly the same level as last year.

That's why not putting dedicated wingers in the all Aus was such a disappointment- was our best chance.

They are certainly not playing with the same level of output as last year. McCluggage is working hard but is also being managed more than others. Robbos form has slipped - he's missing tackles, not scoring and has dropped a notch in his defensive transition (based off watching him live). He seems to hesitate more now than last year, yet when he gets it he's spending less time trying to hit a target unlike last year where you could see him put in clear effort to do so (hence nearly reaching AA level).

Definitely phone the club. Should be enough seats for all members.

A definite no for me. Like Fev, he'd bring the whole circus with him and think that's incredibly destabilising to the younger players. Also think injuries and age are well against him.
Yeah, I’d say no to Buddy too.
He’s cooked!

i will but i'll wait to see if i get the 2pm email first. I have it in my head that they are manually ticketing to get the covid seating sorted, and maybe they haven't got to mine yet. We are a group of eight which means I have to email the club to link the different membership numbers together. It has worked before so fingers crossed we are just late on the list.
Did you check your (my lions account)?
My tickets are on there.

Not sure if its been mentioned, but Oscar McInerney plays his 50th this weekend.

One of the more remarkable stories is Oscar's from going down and trying his luck at Casey Scorpians (Melbourne's VFL team), playing reserves footy for them (which was scrapped a year or two ago) and taking a one and a half to two hour commute on public transport from Vermont or somewhere around there to Cranbourne, breaking through to Casey and onto our rookie list in 2017, not playing a game and now three season's on, notching up his 50th.

Talk about perseverance and now he is starting ruck for a top four side.

Big O paid out his own pocket to Ben Hudson, for 1 on 1 coaching too from memory.
Good on Hudson for dropping us a "you should look at this guy". Looks pretty impressive so far.

Dan plays to avoid taking marks close to goal is the most twaddlest twaddle I've ever heard.
It's actually not that farfetched, any week you can observe any of our taller fwd targets looking to tap the ball to the advantage of crumbers at times during a match. Not every time though, but sometimes, and some of those times you'd really just hope they clunk the mark and have no thought to deferring to that part of their "role"

Was he on the Dees list at some stage probably as r rookie?

I have decided to continue this conversation on this thread rather than on the preview thread.

Earlier this season we had the ball just outside the 50 and Eric lead into space and dropped a lace out pass. We scored a goal anyway but the point was that this was, and is, a rare occurrence from out two mobile forwards. I never see our players milling around trying to put on blocks so allowing an easy lead.

Dan rarely leads in this circumstance, or I haven't seen it. Oscar is there for the high ball and surely one of Eris or Dan should be thinking about getting on a lead.I reckon Dan's possessions would have a higher proportion of contested possessions than similar sized players, playing forward as he doesn't get many easy ones.

Have a look on Sunday with our players in the goal square when we have someone kicking from outside 50 and note who is demanding the ball. It won't be Dan. Now he either has specific instruction not to do so or....

It was interesting to hear Eric on the web site talk about not conceding intercept marks and when I sat with Zorks last year he told me that forwards are instructed to stop their opponents getting the ball. We obviously play very defensively offensively when you watch our games but are we too one dimensional? The football media think so.

I want Dan to get some easy shots from quick leads right in front so I am proved wrong

I have a feeling we'll see a really fired up Robbo this weekend. Hopefully this is the motivation he needed to really start his season.

Yep hes gonna need to back it up now. I dont mind it though - we clearly have some mental issues with Tigers, we might as well lean into it and make it a big target for the guys to overcome. This is after all, the club of 'if it bleeds, we can kill it' and 'no rules'.
