Hard game to judge. We won the game in the first quarter and then just kinda cruised. The concerning thing was how much our structure collapsed in the last quarter.
Admittedly games against Ross Lyon Saints rarely look good. He’s a good defensive coach.

Was Lachie off the field when it fell apart in the last quarter? I didn't notice hime until we stabilised.

We seemed to have more rotations through the midfield than usual but maybe that was because it was a higher scoring game

Jo interview pretty much summed up the Lions game.
Our best is very good, and our worst is pretty bad.

I think we will be working on team defense during the week.
We got the 4 points which was the main objective.

Maybe the way the game played out tonight will help next week.
We certainly won't be overconfident playing Port away.

Not sure

Glad to get the points.

Surprised to see Lyon played for Bears and Roys when I googled it. What was he like as a player? My age, I only know of him as the Freo and Saints coach and his mannerisms there.

The Good

Wilmot - just belongs

Morris - so much poise

Zorko - seriously is his season any worse than kiddy’s last year?

Joe - sticky mits, mostly an accurate foot. Thought he was really desperate in the ruck late too. Seems to go in harder in that role now.

Rayner’s last quarter - seemed to get 3 centre clearances in a row? Or was i going mad?

Berry in the midfield - he is getting better every week. Disposal under pressure seems to be improving with more time in there. Awesome little handball in the last was quite deft. I just don’t think we can reduce his minutes at all atm, he’s crucial

Lessons - at least after all those lapses we won’t be complacent next week

The Bad

Mids over committing - we just kept letting them get out the back. Over confidence?

Mids getting belted early - umps were letting windwhatever get away with a lot, but we didn’t adjust well at all. Spent all week preparing for it apparently. I reckon next time we assume a massive clamp is on neale we start him at half forward for 10 minutes

Backline panicking / being loose - how did they have so much space? Needed to adjust as it wasn’t 5m they were getting, it was 20m

The Ugly

Fits and spurts. All year. So frustrating. What is going on with the group? We lose concentration and confidence within minutes

Umps on dangerous tackles - wow

Channel 7 comms generally - but especially the ‘oh what a technical 50m against windhager’. The bloke jumped in sideways on the mark at least 5m too far. Totally blatant 50m

Tough player, quite skillful. Not a top player, but far from the worst.
Also played for Geelong. Edit: not correct info!

I’ve been getting into Rayner but liked his game tonight, just does some shit that just makes you think he could be anything with consistency. Joey D, man’s a star. Froggy solid, Dunks is just outrageously consistent and a great team player. Zac Bailey is a real concern, looks like a 10 game player trying to work his way into it. Bezz very good, Clug was Clug and I dead set love Wilmot- he will play at least 250 games. How’s Zork- on fire.

reading into fantasy points against st kilda is folly, half backs are basically guaranteed to score bulk points against them. in my most competitive league about 2/3 of the players vice captained zorko and he went massive.

joe's fantasy stats are probably the most impressive tonight

Fab5- Kai Lohmann, Hugh McCluggage, Jarrod Berry, Dayne Zorko, Darcy Wilmot.

Logan Morris bloody good again, kicked a clutch goal in the last when the Saints looked like running over the top of us, also worked back in defence and took a couple of intercept marks.

Kai Lohmann was fantastic with his run both ways, certainly cemented his place in the side now.

Jack Payne needs to be more aggressive with that big body of his, looked a bit timid in a couple of contests and please don't perform the little dinky kicks Jack, he is a vital player for us with virtually no key position defender depth, need him in form if we make finals.

Live at the ground I thought the sling tackle against Dunkley was a joke, it looked like Josh actually cushioned the Saints players fall.

Bank the win and move on to next week away v Port, win that and we are on a run with 2 home games to follow against a low in confidence Demons and Crows.

I’ve really enjoyed the last few week’s version of Joe where he actually competes for marks rather than plays for frees. Both he and Hipwood this year and last year appear to need a rocket in the media to aggressively target the ball, and when they do they’re pretty good at it.

I gave rayner votes. There were times we just needed him to win the ball at a cba and he did it. Did it several times. Was really important to our win tonight.

Yet Joe can still not buy a free.

If the soft holding frees tonight(some our way) were applied uniformly and fairly, Joe would get 8 free kicks per game

Not too concerned about our method in conceding 16 goals, more about the lackadaisical defensive efforts when required. If you can kick 19 against Ross you must be doing something. More desperation to get the footy back when they get it would be grouse but.

Worried about where Bailey's at, let alone Charlie. Daniher, Berry terrific. Impressed with the composure of the kids when the Saints were really pressing.
